I think my Judy may have reached a new high in GUMBO perfection. Everyone said how good it was. I told her that it was a little
OFF
; and she needed more practice.

At first light, the air was cool and still. I setup in Canyon Land and waited. After a while, I shot a large Gray male sitting on a rock. It just rolled off the rock and didn't appear to have moved. (See Picture #1)
Just a few minutes later, I saw another a short distance away and also on the ground. I rolled this one too. I went to retrieve this second one first. Oh oh! It was not there. But I did find several drop of blood indicating a direction of travel. After looking for about 15 minutes, I found in about 20 yards away and very dead. It had taken the .22 JSB in the neck area. Tough big guy. (Picture #2) The Stormrider did its job.
I saw several more that didn't offer any shots. And about now the win, which was predicted to be about 3 mph, was gusting to about eight or ten miles per hour. So I started back toward the truck.
Thank you, Paul, for the permission to hunt here.

Thank you, Wayne. I am well pleased with both rifles. They are right on target.
(I am hoping I can do as well as you are doing this season.)

Thanks, Harry. After carrying the Marauder for a few hunts, that Stormrider is a real feather weight. Both are accurate rifles and a joy to shoot. The squirrels hate them though.

I was out in the woods at 'Can't See:30' and the temperature was about 37ºF with a calm wind. When I left the house, my driver's-side wiper was frozen to the windshield and I had to scrape everything to see. I was loving it.
I hunted the Cedar Forest first and saw a couple of squirrels that would not give me a shot. I moved on to Canyon Land and almost immediately saw two Grays. The first one went up a smallish tree and was playing around in the leaves. I figured it would come back to the ground eventually. So I waited; and waited; and waited. In the meantime, I saw three more that I shot at. I killed two of those and missed the third one. The first squirrel in the smallish tree was still there, but getting very nervous because of all the shooting and moving I did lining up the shots. He decided to change ZIP Codes - like gone. I picked up my two squirrels without taking pictures because I forgot the camera at home. Sorry! I will do better next time. The wind was starting to kick up - so I headed back to the truck. Beautiful day to be in the woods.
Thank you, Paul, for the permission to hunt here.

October 20, 2020 - Tuesday Morning Hunt
My son was with me this morning. We teamed up on the first squirrel of the morning. I had the first shot at the big male in the treetop. I hit it about mid-body; and the JSB exited the opposite side hip. It came down the tree fast and went right to the nearest big crevice. I ran over and was only a couple steps ahead of my son. He saw the squirrel exit that crivice and immediately go into another and under a flat rock. I used my shooting stick to poke it out. Into a third crevice it went and stopped at the base of a tree growing out of the crevice. My son saw it there and finished it off. Later in the morning he shot another Gray. The day may have been a little too warm and windy for the squirrels to move much. We were back at the truck about 10:30 a.m. I didn't get a picture of his squirrel.
Thank you, Paul, for the permission to hunt here.

Saturday morning.
Ice on the windshield with a calm wind.
I took a stand at Target Corner.
After about an hour, I saw a squirrel in Neighbor’s Woods.
As soon as I moved my hand up to my shooting stick, it saw me and froze.
I figured if I swiveled around to get a shooting position, it would leave.
So I took the shot left handed and scored a head shot.
I found it right where it fell and finished it off.
[
The shot hit in the top of the skull; but the squirrel was paralyzed.]
Because I had a grandson's soccer game to attend, I left a little while later. The hunt was over at 8:13 a.m.
Thank you, Paul, for the permission to hunt here.

Nice shot on that big Grey Mike! Left handed too! I don't believe I have ever shot at a live target left-handed.

Thanks Harry.
As I saw the situation, I had two choices: Take the shot left handed; or not get a shot at all.
I have taken shots at squirrels left handed before. But it has been a long time since the last one.

Warmer and calm this morning when I got in the woods. I planned to hunt the Goat Woods first and took a stand in a small canyon/drain. Not long after I settled in place a young male Gray started barking right above me. Finally it moved to the next tree and paused long enough for me to get lead into it. I shot quick and hit the shoulder area causing it to sort of run/fall down the tree. I hurried over to find it still alive and trying to crawl away. I finished it off quickly. The sun had not risen yet.
I moved on and crossed into the next part of the woods where Canyon Land is. I hunted the edge of that area and saw another. But it quickly vanished. Around 9 a.m., after seeing no more squirrels and the wind blowing some, I heard a bunch of noise. I turned around to discover the two of the dogs that live with the goats and two goats. Well, friends, if you have ever had two dogs and two goats helping you hunt squirrels, you know that it doesn't work well. That was the end of my hunt. I brought the bunch of animals out of the woods where they are
not
supposed to be and back to the pasture where they
are
supposed to be.
Thank you, Paul, for the permission to hunt here.
