Title: Field Target Group
Post by: Clifford on November 06, 2012, 11:48:02 PM
I'm located along the KS MO border and looking to possibly start up a field target club. I posted in the Kansas section as well. Anyone interested just shoot me a PM or comment on this thread. Let's get something going! This section of the country needs a stronger AG group.

Depending on location, I'd be a part timer. I'm down in Branson.

But a couple FT events per year would be a sweet start.

Your not that far at all. Nice to have a reply to this thread so quickly. I would assume that if we get a handful of people with interest we could try to find a location that is accommodating to everyone as much as possible. The Missouri side may offer more readily usable space, I'm doing my best to find a suitable location.

Might try approaching both state conservation depts and see if they are willing to help. Airgunning (FT in particular) is a great way to introduce new and future hunters and sportsmen to shooting. MDC has a real nice shooting facility near Springfield, Andy Dalton is the name of it, with a ton of land nearby.

I dont know if I could make monthly meetings but a shoot every other month would be pretty doable, depending where they would be.

Right now I'm trying to make up my mind on which to order tomorrow, Discovery or a Custom crosman 2240!!!!!

I don't remember the name of it but there's a gunclub just outta S/E Kansas City MO.  Brickyards perhaps?  They had some airgunners there.  I shot trap there with some guys, while on a jobsite there.  Might get some info thru them.  HTH    Mike

Good idea on contacting the conservation department. I'll start looking into that. Always hard to pick between two guns but its a good problem to have   ;D

well, after searching high and low across the internet, took me an hour to find someone with one in stock, I ordered a Discovery in .177!!!!!! Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Now I'm hunting for a scuba tank!!!

Keep us informed of the progress. AAFTA might be a good contact too.

Brickyard is correct. It's the name of a gun clubs indoor range. Looks like friday night is AG day, however it requires a yearly membership. Might be worth looking into though since they have a large outdoor range.

I have family and friends in KC and make it up there occasionally. Will give you a holler when I head that way. May be up there for a week or so in Feb.

Arkansas has a big Airgun Expo on the calender for April 26-27, 2013. It's on my radar.

Shoulda been a bit clearer, but I wasn't.  I think you might get names of airgun folks who could help you out, and maybe have some interest in joining you in your efforts.  G'Luck!

Yeah, they have a list of events they will have tents at. I'm sure they would be willing to pass me some contact information for the right types of people.

I just got my .22 marauder synthetic, ready for some field target!

I loaded a UTG 30mm SWAT 3-12X44 on it.

Should I go ahead and get the parallax wheel?

I like having the wheel for adjustments when available for hunting and target work. Just my .02c

Man, the parallax wheel makes a huge difference! It went from "close enough" to "precise".

Now, we really should try and get some FT competitions scheduled this year...

Count me in as interested in attending a FT event.  I'm distraught at how there seems to be no activity in Missouri, or the surrounding states...  I've never attended a FT event, and I cant shoot worth a darn...  but I'd still give it a go :)

I have a friend at the Pioneer Gun Club, which runs the brickyard range, and an outdoor range near Holden, MO.

When I inquired to him about airgun Fridays, he said the gentlemen who ran the Friday ".22 games" stuff in which that was all rolled into, was recently disassociated with the club.

As such, I do not know if they have any particular gathering for the airgun Friday at all anymore. If not, it looks like a prime time for someone to step in an organize something. He generally shoots PPC, but I just got him a p17 for his birthday, and may be swinging to the AG side :) - he may be willing to sponsor something like that. I'll inquire some more, and check back again soon!

I emailed Pioneer Gun Club not too long ago asking about the  airgun night. The president didn't seem too willing to allow me to show up and check it out without first becoming a member. The recruitment type guy told me I could show up to check it out. If they really did cancel the 22 games it may be somewhat pointless to show up.  He did mention sometimes they have events that are open to non-members. Since the startup cost to join is relatively high, it may be worth trying to set up an airgun event just to check it out. I am also digging around with some members of other airgun clubs to see what might be available. FT events or benchrest events for airguns can be a great draw for these clubs if they have the space. Looks like we have more than enough people around here to make it worth their time if it was marketed right.
