Title: Rare Crosman 101 on ebay
Post by: SADave on January 04, 2019, 01:13:10 PM
There's a pretty rare Crosman 101 on ebay. If you send the seller a msg you could probably make an offer.  If someone picks it up on this forum please take pics and let us know how it goes.

A rare find but so beat up?  Drilled the pump arm for brass bolts. Bet this has seen a few pellets through it!  Once they have been altered they loose collector value.

It sold. Your right about the condition but there are a few people like Peter Rutt, Rick @ precicsion AG that could do a good job restoring it. If you had another of the early pump arms you could just swap the pump arm out as well. I know you value airguns as close to orignal condition as possible (im still envious of that Airsporter you got on GB, i wanted to bid on it but had just bought another ag), where as Im okay with stuff that needs a little work or isn't in the good too perfect condition range.

I think Davis the guy who used to run ARS and has Premier model on gunauction said that he had only ever seen one of the Premier Models  and he's seen alot of airguns. Hopefully who ever got it will post pictures on this or another forum.

It also comes down to me that having the Premier Logo just does not mean that much to me.  I’m sure it can be restored but to me the treasure is the one with original paint and wood, etc.  I don’t mind restoring the workings but I’ve seen so many repainted and It just turns me off.  That’s really the difficult thing with the early Crosman’s the paint tends to be where the wear shows.

There's a Crosman 150 type one on there too but it's a little expensive for the condition it's in, and they're not as collectable or sought after like the 101 is either. I've recently bought a couple of the 150's and having a blast shooting one of them, the other one still needs a valve poppet and stem kit.  I'm going to try holding off buying anymore unless they're a really good deal.  I'll make the airgun show this year and there's probably more than likely going to be some available there to choose from and a lot better deal than ebay.

I just seen some crazy prices recently on the auction sites.  Some I would go for but they are 2 times what they are worth!  Waiting as well.

I bought the Premier. I was totally surprised to see it at this buy it now price. Sure its not mint, but its actually not that bad from the pictures I could see, and all the parts appear to be there, including the remington steel barrel. I'm not interested in a gun that is so nice I'm afraid to shoot it. I'll probably replace the forearm in the future and have a nice Premier. Here's  a picture from the eBay ad. The receiver has paint loss but overall appears to be in nice condition.

I'll post pics after I get it and clean it up a bit.

I would have considered it for a early 101 to hot rod. Post a photo of the cracked forearm maybe it can be repaired it looks to be walnut, I kind of like the brass bolts. ;)

the forearm looks to split in half
and i agree the bolts look well done

Try backing off the bolts a little and use padded wood clamps to see if the crack closes up,If so loosen the clamps  use slow curing super glue and tighten the clamps and bolts again. If that doesn't work, I would use regular super glue to stabilize the crack and then follow up with thick super glue ( Cyanoacrylate ) and finish with sandpaper. I have used this on many dark color stocks on milsurp rifles with good results.

Just received the gun and cleaned the accumulated grime off the gun. Check out the blueing of the barrel. the blueing is in pretty good shape on the steel remington barrel. Overall a nice gun with paint loss the main issue. The forearm is solid with the repair and it gives the rifle character. I'll get another forearm and have it both ways since the forearm is easily swapped out.

Pictures can sometimes be deceiving. I think this gun is one of those guns that is in better shape than the original pictures portrayed.
But I it could have easily gone the other way and be in much worse shape than the pictures showed. I happy with the gun and will have to reseal it soon.
This is my first early series 100 rifle.   :D
All my others are 1949 variants.

I agree, better than the auction picks. A gun you wish could talk.  I wonder if that is a real serial number?  Then later they started adding a letter and started again?  My disk example has a 3000’s number with a letter in front: seen others.  Pretty common way to serialize? Then later they had made so many, they gave up. Lol

My collecting DNA can’t stand for modification I think I need therapy! Kept me away from a very rare gun.

I am surprised people selling guns don’t even clean them up sometimes.  Then take good pics!
