Title: Is Anybody There?
Post by: reallyneat on April 14, 2011, 01:09:50 PM
I was wondering if anyone participating in the forum is from New Mexico... and might there be any interest in scheduling/organizing an event? I am still somewhat new to all this but I don't know where to start - would a shooting event be of interest or some other kind of event like an airgun show? I believe there have been shows in Albuquerque, but am surprised there is nothing listed here.

Thanks... and, hello?

I live in northern New Mexico and love to shoot my air rifles as training for my centerfire rifles.  I don't think I have much interest in organizing a shooting event but it sounds like it would be fun.  I visit this forum only occassionally so sorry for the delay in noticing your post.  Tom

Hi Tom,
I live in Santa Fe. I haven't gotten out much to shoot, but hope to do some this holiday weekend. I've got a young family so that results in the guns being kept locked up most of the time. Haven't thought too much more about airgun events for same reason, but if I find out anything more or something comes up I'll keep you posted.

Best,
Dixon

Thanks Dixon.  This time of year is my favorite but always ends up being the busiest as we are all getting stuff done before winter comes.  Garden produce to process and outdoor projects to complete, etc.  I have a 1971 Jeepster as my daily driver and there is always something to do to it before winter gets here and I actually need the 4 x 4 capabilities.  Plus I'm trying to get it more "updated" so everything I work on is not just a replacement part but normally a modification so takes longer to do.  Keep me posted.  Tom

I recently moved to Rio Rancho and got started with airguns. Doesn't sound like there's much airgun activity in NM, but at least this makes three of us, and being retired I've got the time, and can do 25 yds behind my house. An easy drive from here to Santa Fe if you wanted to connect at some future time.

Sorry for the long delay in reading the postings.  I actually only go on GTA occassionally as my first real shooting love is long range rifle.  Not that I have any professional aspirations but it is what I enjoy.  I use my airguns to keep me sharp in between actual outings with my centerfire rifles.  Practicing the basics at home is very helpful.  I'm glad that there are a few of us from the GTA site here in NM.  You never know, we might get an impromptu airgun fun shoot in the future here.  I guess a few guys gettin together to push pellets down range would be a fun thing.  Anyway, hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving.  Tom

Hi Tom, and Gerry,
I've been pretty absent from the forum due to no great excuses. Just with winter coming on I barely got the one rifle out maybe once to check something. Also I am an older guy who decided to have a family late in life, so I am busy with the two kid-does, both 4 next week. But, when everyone's gone from the house and the weather is OK, I can sneak out and fire off a few rounds at a box I have set up over the backyard wall. I finally got my .22 Weihrauch broken in in November after getting it tuned 6 months prior to that... shows how much I am able to shoot. Anyhow, please stay in touch you guys, if and when you can.
Dixon

Checking in from Las Cruces - new to the board.  Southern NM is wide open BLM area - lots of area to hunt/shoot.

Just wanted to say hello to anyone out there in New Mexico, especially you guys who wrote way back when. Nothing new for me to report. Santa Fe is smoky from the fires but it hasn't been too bad yet. Just keeping my two rifles wiped down and clean for now.
Best to you all,
Dixon

I live in the farming ton area and just recently got into airguns for the first time since I was a kid. Don't really know how much interest there would be in air gun competitions up here since most still see em as kids guns but its good to know there's a few more like me in my state...if you do decide to do a shoot let me know and I'll do all I can to get there...I currently shoot mainly pump pistols. Cross man PC77, and old Benjamin 137.

Ok, will do.  I am not a competitor, mostly just bang the dingers in my back yard.  I have access to a couple of ranch areas around here where I shoot non-game animals (rabbits, skunks, coyote) with powder guns and soon will take the air gun out for the small ones.

I have just one gun - a Trail NP.  It shoots better than I do - maybe one day I'll upgrade.

Be well,
amigo

Hello yes I will be opining a air gun range here in northern New Mexico. This summer 2015.
The range will be set up for 50 to 500 yards and I will be open to all air gun shooting events that I can get info on.
My personal shooting interest with air guns is long range, but I will do all type of air gun events if there is a club or organization that has the range setup and rules.I should be able to accommodate .

New mexico always seems to be fairly devoid of people on any web group I go to. At least there are a few people here though :)

Live in las cruces nm. Not much to hunt done here. I go out on rabbit hunts about once a week. So if anyone is in my neck of the scrubs maybe we could get together and shoot stuff

hi. I'm here in alamogordo. i shoot a Hatsan AT 44 in .25 cal. i mostly do rodent control on my property from pigeons to rabbits to coyotes. and at times  feral cats.  I'm learning how it shoots long range with it and trying to get used to it. its slow going cause my fills are done by hand pump. there is no one here to fill tanks.  i might be interested in a fun shoot sounds like it would be fun and a learning experience.....

Hello everyone !!!
I'm really surprised that there are this many people in New Mexico that shoot air guns . I thought that I was the only one here , or at least it feels that way . I live in Albuquerque  and would loved to hook up with someone to do some pest shooting someone . I wish it were like the UK where they have all the farms to do pesting on . If anyone knows of some ranch's that will allow pesting or access to farms or dairies please let me know . Also if you know of any places that have prairie dog towns on BLM land or private please shoot me an email .

Hey all. I live in Tijeras just outside of Albuquerque; I'm shooting a .22 Marauder and would love to meet up with guys who do farmyard pesting, other hunting, or even some target shooting.  I'd also like to get the scoop on where people fill tanks around here.

Hey folks. I live near Santa Fe N.M. and have had decent luck asking people with property and horses if i can hunt rabbits near there hay barns. Once i show them my rifle and that its suppressed and won't spook there animals. It would be cool to find a dairy farm or something that's regularly visited by Eurasian collared doves if anybody knows of any. It would be great to get together with some other airgun addict. Keep me in the loop if there are any gatherings.

Well, why don't you all come south to Roswell? You just might find a few aliens to shoot! Green ones that is!

All kidding aside, I have several places within 45 miles of Roswell, just full of prairie dogs, rabbits, squirrel (the ground type), and even a few skunks. Any one interested?

Well, I've been so out of touch, with raising youngins' and changing jobs these last few years. Sorry for my inattention, but I have just recently become re-acquainted and energized about all this stuff (airguns!) with a purchase 2 days ago of two old airguns from a man in Los Lunas, who's brother-in-law gave him a Diana Model 5 pistol and a Norica Model 61 rifle. Both were reportedly purchased in the 1960s, in Spain, before the man went to Viet Nam to serve his country. I am familiar with the Diana name, and have looked up a little bit of info. But the Norica is hard to find anything about, even though they've been around exactly 100 years according to what I just read. Anyhow, I've moved to Los Alamos (from Santa Fe) for the kids' sake (schools) and to finish my tenure (job), but I would love to meet up with anyone sometime to shoot, swap stories and/or do some show-n-tell with the collection (such that it is). Thanks for being there, fellow New Mexicans. Stay in touch!

I'm still here in Roswell, and still plinking pigeons. Problem is, you guys are both nearly a day away.

Hi all just joined the forum and wanted let you know I'm up here Farmington.

Hey GD.   I'm up in Bayfield, neighboring to the north.  Not much around me for other air-gunners that I know of.  Farmington is only a little over an hour away, get down there every once in a while.  I'd be interested in shooting sometime.  Chokecherry, or somewhere.
