I'm curious as a Canadian Forces member. Why in the states, not many people do long terms of service? I often see people do 2 to 4 years and then get out. Most in the CF, will do 20 years of service, unless they were medically released. I know for us, gotta do at least 10 years to get a service pension.

As a jet engine mechanic I could immediately make better money as a civilian (which I did).  And in the long run I knew my retirement, while not as early, would be far better (which I'm living now).  I also witnessed too many broken marriages during my 4 years in the USN, I knew I would want to settle down and have a family life (married 40 years now to the same lady, 3 good sons with wives, and 5 crazy fun g'kids).

Actually I believe that. My Father was an AVN Tech for 32 years ( Aircraft Mechanic ( Jets, Turbines, Rotary ) Well he got posted alot. I was born in Cold Lake Alberta, back then was the CF18, F5, and F104s. Then Dad switched to Seakings ( Rotary ) and got posted to Shearwater in Nova Scotia. Then he switched to Challengers and T33s in Greenwood NS, then back to Seakings. Mom and I just stayed in Nova Scotia, while all this in Nova Scotia posted happened. Then was the missions he went on since he was attached as a flight crew with one of the Generals.

But when my parents got divorced, He moved to to Petawawa Ontario and working on the Griffon Helicopter and Mi-17s.  Now hes working in New Brunswick.

But where I live now is just outside of Greenwood NS, and I see alot of people come and go. Being posted to other parts of Canada.

But I had a buddy that went to school to become a Aircraft Mechanic. He worked for IMP Aerospace & Defence as a civvy. HE worked with the Military on the Lockheed CP-140 Aurora. I think he did that 2 or 3 years before he joined the Airforce, to do the same thing he did as a civvy.
