I guess I take So Cal for granted on growing (I'm at 9b, and 10a is five blocks north, crazy). I did not realize Dallas got so cold (zone 8a or 8b). I did find a link, but you've probably already read what's there, I include it just in case you have not seen it yet. Its great to grow things, my dad grew up on a farm before moving to CALIF, but we used to go back in the late summer to help with things for the harvest; I wanted to stay there, but mom would have none of that.https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/gardening-by-zone/zone-8/zone-8-avocado-trees.htm
Lizzie, Don't be too disappointed if that plant doesn't make it. It seems that it has a lack of chlorophyll and is still living on the nutrients provided by the seed. I hope I'm wrong but keep us posted no matter what.
What if? What if you made your own micro climate? What if you covered the plants (like a greenhouse) and added a lightbulb to keep what's under the plastic cover from getting too cold? Either use a timer or have something like reptile keepers use and leave it on during the cold months, that could work.
So Miss Lizzie....I don't know too much about Avocados & nothing at all about plant genetics. They don't grow up here in Minnesota.I had an Uncle that managed an Avocado grove in Southern California during the late 1940's thru the early 1960's.Most of the Avocado Groves, at that time, were located in and around Fallbrook Ca and that is where he lived.I recall him saying that they were very sensitive to temperature change.I don't know about now days but back then, Fallbrook used to have a climate that did not vary too much from season to season.Fallbrook Ca. was not too far from the Pacific Ocean and that may have moderated the climate there. I'll be very interested to see what others have to say about this pink Avocado and what it will take for it to successfully grow.Best Wishes - Tom
While somewhat unique; it’s almost certainly terminal. Albinism…https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/info/albino-plant-information.htm
