I have shot my RWS 48 springer (.22 cal) many times at 50 yards. This particular springer shoot CPHP 14.3 grain at 810-820 FPS, for about 21 FPE.Sometimes the point of impact seems to randomly change by 1 to 10 (yes, lots of distance) inches.I assume that would be called hold sensitivity.Sometimes I cannot even see the shots on paper, and wonder where they went.Even with no wind I can still see those random POI changes.I would stop shooting for a few minutes and when I start again the POI has changed a few inches in a random direction.I have tried many holds, and I even attached small furniture pads to the stock to allow me to place my hand always in the same way.It helps but still get the POI changes.A springer is a beast with a mind of its own, hard to tame, and when you thought you tamed it it will kick you off the saddle with another POI change. Why people put up with these bad manners?

Everyone! Please step back and take a deep breath!!! Sounding like a bunch of bull-frogs bellowing across the pond isn't helping anyone. The original poster has 170 posts, is apparently a fairly new shooter and is frustrated that his rifle doesn't shoot like it should. He is screaming for help not for criticism and insults. There are a lot of good suggestions in the string and some questions to be answered to help the guy out. My objective in getting an adult air rifle in the first place was writing a a$7000 check to a landscaper to rebuild a wall destroyed by chipmunks. At this point, I have killed over 400 chipmunks in my back yard. Most head shots at up to 35yds from sitting at the kitchen table through an open window. THOUGHTS ABOUT THE PROBLEM:1. Pellet choice? Not likely to cause 10" groups even at 50yds. I did have one pellet that shot 7" groups at 20yds. Napier Hunter. Poor quality dirty pellets out of the box. CPHP 14.3 generally have good reputations for quality and accuracy.2. Velocity: Some very light pellets can cause poor accuracy because they go supersonic. NOT THE case here.3. Crappy cheap gun? NOT THE case here. Many RWS/Diana 48s perform exceptionally well.4. Problems with the sights: Are you using a scope? You didn't mention one. If using a scope? HIGHLY LIKELY.to be a problem. 21fpe on a fixed scope and base is a real kick in the face for a scope not rated for air rifles or not strong enough to take a 21fpe wallop. FFIRST PLACE TO LOOK. Is it a good well recognized air rifle scope. Everyone of us has a scope story to tell!!!! 5. Loose screws: Likely the second most likely culprit. It is best to use a torque wrench to control the mounts, rings, and stock. Most use the Wheeler FAT wrench available at most gun shops. It is reliable and relatively inexpensive. After examining the mounting for movement, damage to rifle or the bases and rings.Make sure the mounts and are correctly installed and the screws tightened to the "correct" torques. Stock screws are tightened to about 25inlb, bases around 20inlb. Rings: 15in/lb at the max starting around 12in/lb.6. Internal damage to gun: Third most likely. Seals, springs, etc could be damaged, broken, or leaking. Other responders here are MUCH more knowledgeable than me on this subject. Has the gun got worse with age???7. Hold sensitivity: Fourth most likely but the MOST annoying. I had a terrible time getting started because of the idioosyncracies of the artillery hold and all the gyrations one goes through. I took the CHICKEN HEART WAY OUT. I buy only RECOILLESS air rifles. Diana 54 in particular and an FWB 300. They make springer shooting fun rather than an exercise is frustration. If the wind is down and I do my part I can hold around an inch for 10+shot groups at 50yds. Wind = all bets are off. I have had drift as much as 10" in a gust that caught me unaware. My first "good" air rifle was an inexpensive Walther Force 1000. I had a bugger of a time getting it shoot consistently and finally gave it to my daughter to use or throw away. I think she did the latter. Go to PCP? I chose not to as I already have a VERY LARGE PILE OF GUN TOYS AROUND AND DIDN'T WANT ANOTHER.NOW LETS ALL PLAY NICE AND TRY TO HELP THIS GUY A BIT!!! EVERYONE'S UNCLE DAVE!!!
