What group size can one expect at 50 yards from a spring air rifle? With my RWS 48 .22 cal, shooting CPHP 14.3 grains at 810FPS, I get an average 5 shot group around 1.8-2 inches. Can you post your AVERAGE 5 shot groups at 50 yards?I am interested in typical groups not the best ones. At 50 yards the shooter skills and wind are the main factors affecting accuracy.I did not look into other pellets, because I refuse to do that, and I am not interested in spending 3-7 cents a pellet. My PCPs have no problems giving average groups around 3/4-1 inch with the same CPHP .22.

I can't find any pictures of paper targets I've shot at 50 yards but hear is one where I shot 1-1/2" spinners at 60 yds with my RWS Diana 460 .22 cal.

I fully expected that some people will keep insisting that the main reason for my poor groups is the pellet.I realize that the perfect pellet for a springer will give the best groups. The many PCPs I own do not seem to mind CPHP and can produce AVERAGE 5 shot 1" groups at 50 yards. When shooting springers at 50 yards I rest only the forearm (on my hand or on a sandbag, doe not make a difference), the buttstock is floating (careful not to touch anything). So the average 5 shot groups at 50 yards for a good springer seem to be around 1.5-2", exactly where I am.This seems to be the nature of the springer beast. If you want accuracy at 50 yards then springers seem to be underwhelming.
I'm getting about 1" to 1.25" measured edge to edge 10 shots. But Sunday I shot 5, just to check POI, so no pressure to do everything perfect, and all 5 dropped into less than 1/2". So I think I'm the limiting factor in the 50 yard group equation. But this was with one of the guns 4 favorite pellets. Some guns shoot great with CPHP and some don't. My gun, at 20 yards will do 3/4" with them. If I switch to HN FTT (the most accurate in my gun) it'll print sub half inch all day. If you're not willing to try different pellets, what does it matter what other people are getting? Your gun/pellet combination isn't going to change, so your groups just are what they are. Example: I have a .243 varmint rifle I handload for, my first handload for it grouped1" @ 100 yds, I didn't just say "well that must be all the gun is capable of" and throw up my hands. I changed bullets, primers, powder charge, etc. Now it groups 1/4" at 100 yards. It's basically the same thing.
