It's a Winchester 1977xs. It did not shoot good from day 1. I was using the cheaper Crosman and Daisy pellets but 1 to 2 inch+ groups at 20 yards just didn't seem good. So I started trying the tape mod, stiffening the barrel, and stabilizers to varying degrees of success and failure. I also started shooting the Gamo Tomahawk pellets and it likes those better. The best group I've gotten is 0.53 at 18 yards. But it's not consistent. Sometimes it will shoot a group with some flyers or just a larger group.
So I looked closer at the crown. It looks like the rifling goes all the way to the end of the barrel but it does not. I used a thin wire to stick in the barrel and feel the rifling. I can feel the grooves up until the last 1/4 inch or so of the barrel. then it is smooth. It is straight and the same diameter as the bottom of the rifling grooves for that 1/4 inch from the end of the barrel to where the rifling starts.
I've never seen a muzzle crowned like this. Is this normal, or something I should be concerned about? Might this be affecting my accuracy?
If anybody has a 1977xs or Daisy 880, could you check to see how your muzzle is crowned?

Bad barrel off center and has tooling marks across the riffling. Return to sender.
