So I have a standard 457 cf texan. Sucker is loud! Lol. Buddy has the lss version and it does a pretty respectable job of quieting it down. Does airforce sell the shroud kit as an aftermarket accessory? Looked into donny fl emporer but don't want to add a ton of length to an already long gun. Not looking to be mouse fart quiet, just heating safe. Suggestions?

Airforce does offer the kit to convert to the LSS. Adds about 5 inches or so to overall length.

The key is to have a big plenum ie sealed air dump chamber.
The big Texans belch out some 2-2½ gallon of air and the larger the volume the more the bark is muffled.
I know the LSS system vents some (a lot?) of air back into the action and that adds to the "volume" of the dump chamber. I have not seen a decibel comparison between bare LSS rifle and LSS system, mind you the LSS suffers from a shorter barrel and thus larger bark from git go comparet to the standard rifle.
No silencer can quiert the beast down unless it's in the quart size region (size of a thermos). Just adding some 5-7 K-baffles in a tube wont do and a lot of high power hiss is the result. And they are simply the best at low speed powder burning guns:

At the power levels we run there is simply no posibillity to run any kind of damping wool of any kind in out silencers. They rip apart at first shot. Ask me how i know ;-)
I made a 50cm~20" length x 5cm~2" diameter tube (for my .50 Tex) that did work wery well. My fault was to anchor it instead of the barrel ring in the chassis. Went from tackdriver to scattergun, but the effectiveness was quite good and it was pleasant to shoot without hearing protection. Well back to square one :-)

Try Neil Clague. I just ordered and received a full shroud moderator for my .257 Texan and it's very effective. However, it does add about 5-6" to the length. Still, it's very quiet. Just expect a very "long" gun with any added moderator.

So you will have to browse through this thread for my post. I was able to hush mine up by adding heavy felt wrapped around a perforated tube as shown in the pictures. I also drilled vent hole at the base of the long tube and through the muzzle brake. Honestly, if I was to do it again I would by a CF carbine and add a Donny FL to it. But what I did to my LSS worked really well.
