Hello, kinda new here and the search function doesn't seem to bring in many hits for my search terms, so I'll just try a question. I have a Tech Force 99 with a Powerline scope that is a great shooter and has been for many years, a real hard hitter and very accurate. The only shortcoming is the horrible trigger. It would be way more accurate with a trigger that doesn't have a break like a brick wall.
Questions: 1) I haven't had the action out of the stock - are there any adjustments for the trigger? Methods? 2) Is there a recommended method for polishing parts of the trigger group? 3) Is there a cheap drop-in trigger upgrade? Thanks in advance.

I have two TF99's. A .177 with the metal front sight and a.22 with the plastic front sight assembly but the front sight is the kind that slides off and it and the rear sight are missing but it's scoped.
The .177 is a nail driver. I have the scope on tall see-thru rings so I can use the open sights. It is accurate enough I took it to the only field shoot I've been to a few years ago. Used sticks and sat on a bucket.
TF99 .177 Peak 8.6 grs. W/C's fps 807, 804, 799, 814, 806. Trigger about 2.5 lbs. Likes RWS R-10 Match 8.2 grs w/c's
TF99 .22 Peak 13.9 grs W/C's fps 833, 846, 831, 831, 821. Trigger about 3.5 lbs. Likes RWS Miesterkugelen 14 grs w/c's
Trigger pull on them isn't match grade but not to bad.
You said your gun is a good shooter and very accurate which is good because there's not much you can do to the trigger.. I've had them out of the stock but haven't opened the receiver. Read the reviews on Pyramid's sight. Most are good.
I just bought an old .177 TF97. Same gun but the receiver is shorter. It was missing the front sight assembly that also held the cocking lever, no rear sight, no trigger guard and no recoil pad. I put a slip over rubber recoil pad, a B3 barrel clip and a steel muzzle break. Fabricated a trigger guard from a B3 trigger guard with the back open like a Crosman Challenger. I tore it down twice and tried a couple different springs and seals. Now it has the original spring and a plastic piston seal and a new breach seal. Not consistent.
With Noma 8.2 w/c's 767, 804, 790, 682, 826. Haven't checked trigger pull yet
Trigger is the same a s a 99. First time I tore it down I only removed the safety and anti-bear trap and remove the spring and piston. You have to remove the trigger and sear to get the compression chamber out. I didn't bother. Just clean it and replaced the breach seal with it in the gun. Second time I didn't remove anything. You have to mess around pulling the trigger and pushing down on the sear so you can push it out.
But your gun sounds like it really doesn't need any work. Enjoy, Tim

Thanks for that info, Tim! I'll check Pyramid's reviews. Sounds like you've done quite a bit of work with these things! Glad for the reassurance that the gun is sound. It's in .22. I wish I could improve the trigger though. I just checked it with a gauge and it's less than 3lbs, which I never would have believed if I hadn't checked it myself - it feels so much heavier. It's just such a hard break, hard to keep it steady on the target long enough to break it over smoothly. I've got an 8mm powder burner with a 8.5lb pull that feels easier to squeeze off than this.
I hadn't shot it for a long time, but recently I got a rangefinder and set some targets at about 35 yds, and my groups have been about 1 to 2 inches, judging through a spotting scope. The targets are a little hard to get to, so I haven't gone out and retrieved them yet for direct measurement. That's more or less offhand with a slight brace. When I get some more time I'll re-work my home range setup and figure out a bench. I want to sight it in again, too. But I think it shoots pretty good, for a casual amateur like me with old eyes. I'm using Gamo Magnum 15.89 gr. which it seems to like better than some others I've tried. Thanks again!

Less than 3lbs is good. When I'm at trigger pull 95% of my zin is on my trigger finger.
My Dad had an 8mm 98 Mauser that had the stock sporterised for deer hunting. Then he got a 30-06 Remington pump. He sold the Mouser to a fellow air traffic controller. Years later that guy sold it to my Dads brother who also was an air traffic controller. My Uncle had bowered the gun once years before that from Dad and killed his only deer. He said after the deer went down a small pine tree fell over between him and the deer. Maybe if I outlive my Uncle I'll see that old gun again.
For a bench I use a small folding table turned at an angle so I can rest my firing elbow on it. I use 4 bricks stacked 2 high, 2 wide(you can set the bricks on their side or stack the two top ones to adjust height) with a shot bag on top. At first I just used a folded shop towel on top of the bricks. Enjoy.

My K98 Czech Brno is also a sporterized model, that I got from my dad also! Can't shoot that one at the home range, though!
Good info on your bench setup. My situation is that my shooting platform is my back deck, and my target area is downhill, varying from about 10 to 25 degrees. My deck has a railing, of course, but it's not in a good place to serve as a rest, seated or standing. So I can shoot offhand, or shoot offhand bracing against a side post, or try to shoot using the railing as a rest in a horribly awkward position. It's fun plinking, at any rate. Great fun and sport, lighting up glo-sticks at dusk on the range from 30 yds!

If you want to improve the "feel" of the trigger, you might want to try a trigger shoe. Spreads the load.

That's a great idea! I see one at D&L Airgun for $18. Not sure it will fit my Tech Force, but if not, it looks like it would fit my Crosman, which suffers from pretty much the same problem. I don't see a lot of them out there... Thanks!

I have one that I did some work on a few years ago. This is what I posted back then about the trigger.
"I have a TF99 (QB36-2), that is pretty similar to the 46U, and has the same type trigger. The only way to lighten the trigger, is to replace the trigger spring with a lighter one. This is not something that you can buy, you'll have to make it. Take out the original trigger spring, and gut some music,spring/piano wire (hobby store), about 2/3 the thickness of the original. Make up the new spring as a duplicate of the old, but add one extra coil.
I also added an after travel stop to my trigger. My trigger pull is now a pretty crisp 3 lbs., down from about 5 lbs.."

Thanks, Doug! I'm not sure I'm up to the task of making a trigger spring. How involved is disassembling the trigger group? I'm game for some machine work (as a retired master mechanic), but I don't know. I'm guessing you wrapped the piano wire around a thin shaft, as a sort of mandrel, and finished as needed with needle nose? A trigger shoe might be more my speed.

Making the spring out of piano wire wasn't that big a deal. You just need to keep track of the orientation and pins. A trigger shoe is a good idea to help make it feel smoother.
The 46 safety and bear trap are a bit different than the 99, but the trigger spring is the same. This might help:
