Now all he has to do is find one in .22https://hatsanairgunsusa.com/product/mod-95-spring-combo/?attribute_pa_caliber=22Although they won't be needed for awhile, I'd add a piston seal and a pack of breach seals ($15 total) to the order to save on combined shipping.I've ordered Hatsan rifles from several different sources. The rifles directly from Hatsan always have the BEST packaging with excellent delivery times and good tracking. Vortex version is also available... https://hatsanairgunsusa.com/product/mod-95-vortex-combo/?attribute_pa_caliber=22I have one with with a QE sound moderator. I don't think the QE makes a significant sound difference with this rifle at this pellet energy and caliber. If I were to get another Mod95 I would choose the non-QE model.
I dont know which version is better -Gas spring is very smooth and I dont have anything to criticize about the shot scyle ir power output. But "it is what it is" meaning that there isn't much to tune. The coil spring version can be tuned any way you like, with lots of experienced people around who would be happy to offer any info you might need. Is probably easier to cock also.I like the Vortex I have. If you ordered one of those, just remember to park it muzzle down.ps - we all expect a report in 8 days.... ;-)
My 2 cents...Disclaimer: I don't work for Hatsan and receive NOTHING free from them. I have an unhealthy addiction to am just a fan of their air rifles. The pandemic has made prices spike and reduced the availability of many pellets, but it seems to be getting better. In GENERAL I think the rule of 2 works fairly well here. Many 22 pellets cost 2x 177 pellets and 25 pellets cost 2x 22 pellets. Selection(varieties) of 177 and 22 pellets is approximately the same, and about 2x the variety of 25 pellets. For maximum "meat slap" termination energy (pure hunting) I'd choose 25 caliber. Pellet cost is higher and they are not normally carried in local stores, but IMO the Mod95 25 is an excellent hunting rifle.HOWEVER, for best ALL AROUND hunting, target, plinking fun, I would choose the 22 caliber. While the Vortex air spring versions USUALLY shoot a bit smoother right out of the box, the coil spring version can be SO CLOSE to the Vortex version that it is difficult to know which one you are shooting. I HAVE the Mod95 22, and many other Hatsans, in both coil and air spring versions.Springs, piston seals, and breach seals are WEAR items which may need to be replaced after 5000-10000+ shots. These parts DON'T last forever!Vortex air springs direct form Hatsan are in the $50 range while replacement coil spring can be sourced from multiple vendors at ~$20 each. The Hatsan springs will likely be the better option but this coil spring from Vortek matches my notes on the last time I measured my Mod95 coil spring:http://vortekproducts.com/ourstore/airgun_springs?product_id=186 (0.820"-0.825" OD, 0.128" wire, 40 active coils)I prefer the Hatsan piston seals (small for Mod95) at $5 each and breach seals at $10/5pcs.https://hatsanairgunsusa.com/product/small-plunger-seal/https://hatsanairgunsusa.com/product/break-barrel-breech-seal-5-pack/Have not had to replace a broken or damaged coil spring yet in any of my coil spring powered Hatsan rifles. Replaced piston seals and breach seals YES, and converted 1 bad Vortex air spring on a refurbished rifle into to a coil spring rifle. My defect rate on Vortex air springs is VERY LOW, just not "0" like the coil spring versions. Don't let that scare you away from the Vortex versions if you find a good deal on one!Just for reference when shopping for Mod95 deals, pre-pandemic new Mod95 coil spring combo rifles were ~$100-$120. Vortex air spring QE versions add $20-$40. Refurb coil spring versions (no scope) were ~$80 when available. The economic issues associated with the pandemic over the last year has driven prices up.IMO the Mod95 is a nice entry level spring-piston break-barrel air rifle with a good Quattro trigger, comfortable Turkish Walnut stock, and average scope (I mostly use the open sights). I consider it one of the better performance/value deals currently available.
