New Gun Rack Disapointment
« on: August 04, 2010, 05:42:01 PM »

I ordered a new 24 carousel gun rack last week. I found the best price for this particular one at Sportsmansguide. It is very nice in every way except holding the rifles...:(

After assembling it I started to stack my rifles. Then all of a sudden the top started moving in a circle...:( Quickly wrapped my arms around all the guns to keep them from falling over. One by one I managed to get the out of the rack and back on the old stationairy rack.

I found two brackets that I missed when I assembled it connecting the top to the center post. Thought what a dummy I was to miss this.

So I attached the L brackets and securered everything up. Started putting guns back in the rack and same thing happened again except the center post started to move on bottom pedestal...:(. Again wrapped my arms around the guns to keep them from falling over.

So now I am going to use glue to attach top to pole and the pole joint as well as the bottom pedestal to the pole, along with more L brackets and see if that will work..

I have allot of wood and almost lost it all. Will report back on how things turn out.

Yes glad you brought that up Dave. You cannot put all scoped rifles in the rack. At least not 40's and 50's side by side.  You have to leave one open slot between them or the scopes will hit. So I figuered I would just put my un scoped air rifles between the scoped ones. I guess who ever designed the rack they used very small copes...:( for testing..

I ended up using garilla glue on the 2 piece pedistal post and where post screws into the base. Let it sit over night and now the gun rack is holding all my babies...:)

Looks nice Gene. If you didn't have to mod........it probably wouldn't feel right. lol

I'm going to order one, just been looking around to figure out what space it will end up in so I can decide what size to get. I have Gorilla glue........will have to waite to get brackets.

So overall, after the mods, is it worth it?

Thanks for the review........helps a great deal.

Wow Gene. Lots of golden eggs in that there basket!
So, if avg @ 8lbs each x 24....dang, that's about 200 pounds of pure enjoyment.
Looks great.

Thanks guys. Never thought about the weight factor..:) And for sure with the rack loaded up you need to mod it to make it more stable and also remove the lazy susan on the bottom.  It is only like 17" around and the stand base is 34" around so it would not be totally stable with a full load. ???   ???

Gene, I think you have talked me out of that one! Sorry for the troubles you've had with it, but I don't think that would work for me.

Gene must be one of those neat freaks!!!!  If I had my airguns/firearms lined up like that, they`ll be covered in dust in under a week!!!!  Btw, great collection of air rifles.
