Title: Junior matches.
Post by: pistolero on October 25, 2013, 02:55:26 AM
I have a son that loves to shoot. I'm interested in getting him into shooting NRA-CMP 10 meter air rifle matches. My address is Raleigh but we are really south of Garner around 42 and Rock Service Station Road. The closest club (unless I'm missing something) listed on the CMP site that has Jr air rifle matches is Durham Pistol and Rifle Club. And when you click on their page for air rifle you just get a "coming soon" message, so I doubt they have anything going on there anyway.
Does anyone think there would be enough interest in the Raleigh/Garner/Clayton area to get a CMP club going to host 10 meter matches for the kids?

We must live within a few miles of each other.   I'm up near Rock Service Station and Old Stage.    I'd like to eventually grow the Tar Heel Air Gun Club www.thagc.com (http://www.thagc.com) to the point where we could host 10m meter but we have been focusing on field target.

I will tell you that in order to make NRA Air Rifle happen at one of the local clubs you'd basically have to make a presentation and grow it yourself.  I'm sure that is not what you wanted to hear but it's just what I've found.

We'd be happy to have you and your son visit with us (and shoot) at a FT match.  We are doing one next Saturday 11/2 in Mount Pleasant.   We will have a venue in Wake County for 2014.

If you'd like to talk about drumming up 10m interest for kids, I'd be more than happy to help in Wake County.

Cool. We'd love to come to some matches. I just found out this afternoon though I'm probably going to be in OR for the next 6 weeks or so. Same old story, when I'm working there's no time, when I'm not there's no money. Was interested in the 10 meter because for one thing if you are in a CMP affiliated club you can buy refurbed 853's from them for 100 bucks (oh yeah and Garands).
How long is the drive to Mt. Pleasant from here?

It's about two hours and fifteen minutes each way.  Next Saturday my son (14), and friend of mine from church (who is taking up the sport), and I are riding up and back same day.   I usually head out about 6 or 6:30am and get there early to help Chris setup and for us to get organized.
