I did a search in this topic for night vision scopes but decided to start my own question thread. So best option for sub $500? I currently have a Sightmark Photon XT and it's pretty good up to about 50-70 yards but at 100 it's very limited (even with an aftermarket IR illuminator). As for the major ones in this price range, what's the big difference, if any? Sightmark Wraith HD 2-16x 28mm vs. Wraith HD 4-32x 50mm (besides the higher magnification)? Those vs. the ATN X-Sight LTV? or the ATN 4k Pro (more $$)? Just looking to get a clearer picture at 100+ yards for more precision shooting with a Texan .257. Thanks in advance for any input...

I'll be following this one because I'm looking for the same thing.
I was all set to buy a Sightmark Wraith until I learned that it can be damaged if it's used in bright sunlight. Then came the Wraith2.
ATN looks good too.
It seems that thermal imaging is very expensive, and very good at finding things in darkness, but infrared seems to be better for hitting the target. Thermal imagers cannot have a lense in front of the sensor. IR sensors can as long as the scope doesn't have IR filters in it.
Sometimes you will see " IR cut " when you are shopping for cameras to use as cheap nvis.

I have the ATN 4k and am impressed with it at night. When I took it out and sighted in on my AK15 for hog hunting, I was really bummed at the clarity at the range. I was thinking about sending it back, but a couple of friends told me to try it at night first. I could see rabbits 200yds away on the fence line with cloud cover and the supplied illuminator. We were in a wooded area and it was to dark to walk without a head lamp, but I could see fine through the ATN. Just remember that depth perception is really bad at night. Just to add a bit, I have never been so jacked up after a hunt in my 59 years, when I could hear the pigs running behind me close enough to feel the ground moving, and knowing that their was a mountain Lion in the area! You could not wipe the smile from my face! I still want to get an ATN thermal, however.

I have an old ATN so model does not really matter, but it does well out past 100, with factory IL, and the new ones are lighter and more like a regular scope, bought mine as a refurb, and never an issue, besides the old style had limited onboard battery's, so I added a power pack.

Thanks everyone. So any software issues with any of the ATN's??? I may give them another try since they seem to have done some upgrading in the past couple of models. Yeah, thermal is a little rich for my blood right now but would like to have one eventually.
