Anyone in Missouri listen up. I've been watching that tv show king of the two mile and i was thinking that Missouri is a dead zone for airrifles what if we made our own long range shooting club with airrifles. I'm not talking a 100 yard event, let's push our guns as far as we can. All airrifles of every caliber pcp,break barrel and custom guns they all shoot together in their own class. More rules can be made if we can get enough people interested. All we need to put Missouri on the map of sum of the finest airrifle shooters is to get people interested areas to shoot at some steel targets and most of all get the family evolved! I want to see this happen spread the news leave me a message!

I'm not sure I would call MO an "air rifle dead zone". I know there are a bunch of active shooters in the St. Louis/Wentzville area, and I know several others around the state as well.
As far as competition goes, however, you're right, there is lots of opportunity for benchrest, field target, and even the long range shooting you propose. I hope there is a lot of interest in this!

As for your idea... sounds great to me as well, but would be also very dependent on where this would be located. I'm in the west/south-west area of MO.... and it IS "a dead zone" here for airguns. There have been numerous postings for shooting get-togethers in recent times, but nothing really ever seems to materialize. :( I just moved here last spring (where I am now) after buying a home and a little land, and have "reached out" to several other shooters that I read posts from on here, and would get several replies... then they would just disappear.
I've gotten so discouraged about not finding anyone to shoot with, that I'm seriously considering liquidating my air rifle collection (mostly German)... which I would hate to do, but there is no point in having them if not making use of them. I do shoot alone, but for me... that gets "old" after not too long. I'm a "people person" and I enjoy the light-hearted competition and friendships developed when sharing the sport together with others of like-mindedness.
Fortunately for me, I have a wife who supports whatever I do... including shooting airguns, but she's not "really" into them... on her own. You know how women are (well, some of them, anyway).... they will go with their husbands, or even participate in whatever "he's" doing..... just to be together, but they are Not really "there" themselves... so, I would really welcome the opportunity to be able to participate in an airgun shooting club of some kind... anykind, even 10 Meter indoor shoots... which I have guns, suited for exactly that.... but the nearest one to me, is either down in Fayetteville, AR. or over in East Tulsa, OK.... both involve close to 6 hours of driving, to and from.... which is too much, when you only spend about 2.5 hours of shooting after getting there, then have to turn around and head back..... not worth all that driving, for such a short time of shooting.
As Mark (mobilemail) pointed out in his reply to you... there is quite a bit of on-going activity among airgunners over in the St.Louis / Wentzville area of the state.... but we don't All live in that portion of the state, so it IS basically a "dead zone" everywhere else in Mo. unfortunately.
I hope you will respond to Mark and I's responses to you.... and when you do, please tell us whereabouts you're located and /or, where you're thinking of holding such shoots..... and "IF" it happens to be all the way over in the eastern half of the state.... I'd have to "pass" on it, sorry to say.... but will gladly wait with baited breath in the meantime to hear from you.

Hey Mark i live in east south central part of Missouri st.francis co and it's a dead zone around me to. Don't get rid of your airrifles no matter what ok right now this is an idea I'm working on as far as the area it's going to depend on how many shooters are interested and finding a place to shoot so don't give up I'm working on it I'm glad to hear from you and pass the word on we need all the shooters we can get.

About the closest I come to you on my work travels is Cape G. or Jeff City.

And like i said it's going to depend on how many shooters reply and shows interest this is not shooting a golf ball at 100 yards its shooting steal plates at longer distances. Those guys with big bore guns flat out shoot so that's were there will be classes from 177 cal and up.last spring i was shooting 100 yards with a 177 at soda bottles so i see everyone having fun if we can get it going!

Thanks for your replies (one addressed to Mark.. but I knew it was meant for me. lol) Well, it sure sounds like it definitely could be both fun and challenging as well.... and both perspectives sound good to me. I'll pray and hope that it will come together. There is a new airgun "club" that just started last year down in the Fayetteville, AR. area... they go by NASA (Northern Arkansas Spring gun Association)... and they are well organized, funded and basically "have their act together".
They've already held two or three "public shoots" where they have advertised it very well... and had everything from basic single and multi-pumps to Big Bore pcp's and everything in between there for people to see, shoot and experience... with experienced shooters guiding them, and it's getting bigger with each time they do it and their gaining membership as well, as people are getting exposed to the sport of airgun shooting in ways they never knew or even heard about. A very smart move on the part of the club leadership... one of whom I know, personally... a physician/surgeon by profession.
The club's main shooting interest focuses on indoor 10Meter shoots/competitions.... but are also looking at other shooting venues during warmer weather... with the 10M shoots as their main, year-round event. They have regular meetings at a country club there (golf club) with dinner available for those who wish to. I have been invited to each of them, but have as yet been able to make it down there... it's a good two hour drive one way, and their meetings usually don't start until 7pm... that makes for a late night and a long drive, just to be there for two hours.
They have an official embroidered shirt/jacket patches, T-shirts with logo... etc, etc... as I said, these guys have a plan, and they definitely have their act together and "going for it".
They also have good funding to do all this stuff.... business professionals with "deeper than average" pockets. I guess my main point in saying all this is the fact that they have a "vision" to promote the sport to folks who have no clue about airguns in reality, and then to get as many as possible involved through their NASA... as well as being able to provide a "platform" for all those who are already airgun enthusiasts, individually.. to come together with others already in the sport.
It also allows them to combine their resources to be able to secure a permanent building for themselves to have a place to shoot as well as for other club activities, that otherwise... would never even be a possibility. They officially registered and incorporated NASA last fall as a non-profit organization and they just held their first election of "officers" to oversee the club and all its activities at a recently past meeting.
They also have Association rules (printed in pamphlet form for now, I believe), so that it's not "willy-nilly" with no organization... which is good, because you need structure, especially when you have people coming in that have no prior experience.
I guess my main purpose in stating all this, is to say that a few guys got together... developed a "vision", then a plan to attain that vision... then proceded to go after it, via their plan of how to get to that vision.... and it all started with just two or three guys with a common enthusiasm for airguns.... who met, through this "Gate" (for Arkansas). I "see" them developing into a "serious" Association the way they're going.
I will have to look on the map to see whereabouts you're located... sounds like you're at least a couple of hours away from me... I never seem to be located "where the action is"... for anything I enjoy. lol ;D Lets stay in touch... keep us updated, and hopefully more often then once every few months... or, as some have done... just "disappear" altogether, without a word.

Many apologies for being out of the loop for a bit, has been a very hectic fall and winter.
I would be interested in long range shooting! But am starting a new job on the 26th, so have to get that rolling smoothly. But after that, schedule allowing, I would love to participate.
Would also like to reschedule a shoot at my place this year.

I'm in the Rolla area. I have a hard time making it to meets since I work weekends, but I'd love to meet some fellow airgunners. I'll keep an eye on this thread and try to take some personal time if we can get something going.

I’m up in the other airgun dead zone . North west Mo . I have done all of the LASSO shoots in years past . I would love it if someone found a range in the mid state area that had a 4 to 600 yard area we could go shoot some steel at .
