Title: Interest in a SW Missouri shoot?
Post by: Lobo on May 03, 2017, 05:13:54 PM
Hello all.

Seems like forever since I been on here, unfortunately.

Thought I would test the water on a get together this fall, and see who may be interested. Location is about 100 miles south of Kansas City. Time frame is Sept/Oct, depending on what works for everyone.

Post here if there is any interest, and hopefully we can get something set up!!!

Thanks

  Lobo

I'm 0 miles south of KC, I could probably make a weekend trip down there.

Would love to meet some fellow airgunners and shoot some holes in things!

Sounds great to me! Let's see if anyone else chimes in, then we can figure out timing.

Springfield is a 5 hour drive for me. If you have a shoot that I can squeeze into my calendar I would love to come!

Could 2 more flatlanders from Illinois come and play?  Lilly and I may be rated up by then.

I'm in Thayer, MO about every other weekend it seems, with family in Springfield and KC,  I could see this being a real possibility for me.

mobilemail, would be glad to have ya!!

Bob H, you guys are absolutely welcome!

Ozark airgunner, that's not too far! Hope you can make it!!

I suppose we should be thinking about dates and time. I am pretty open for the most part. Think we have a couple of folks from Arma Kansas planning to head over, and with luck, a couple more "Flatlanders"!

Couple of things I should have put in the original post:
  1. The "town" I live in has a population of 249. Hence, there are not a lot of amenities. Nearest town with motels are pushin 30 miles. We have gas, and a couple of small restaurants that are usually open. Beer and fish bait is about 11 miles.

  2. Anyone that cares to camp, is more than welcome.

  3. I live pretty primitive, by modern standards. Electricity is limited to a couple solar panels and a generator. Just a heads up!

  4. I will have a supply of potable water.

  5. The day we shoot, I will pony up for some grilling!

Hope to see you guys there!!!

I have a week of vacation schedule for the last weekend of August (that's what we call really, really early September  ;) )  leading into Labor Day weekend.

Aw dang, I see Schell City is on the edge of a conservation area. And I will have my out-of-state license for small game by then.  Anyone for live targets?  ;D ;D ;D

I am game!!! Some awful good fishing right next door, also!! Forgot to mention, the conservation has 2 campgrounds right on the lakes.

Sounds good to me, just let me know a weekend when y'all are wanting to try and get together and I'll see what I can't get done, FYI my wife would probably come with and shoot and fish too.

It will be easier getting my wife to come if she knows other wimmen-folk are there...especially ones that like to fish!!

I don't foresee any problems with that, but it's still a little to far out for me to know for sure. I'll be watching the post and using as we get closer.

Once you get the details worked out, you might want to put it in the announcements gate. You are in a good place to get folks from an area all around...KC, Springfield, maybe even Wichita and NW Arkansas.

All.

I would be interested. I am about 30 minutes east of Springfield so not too far. The end of September would probably work. I will check in periodically.

Thanks!

Hello, Lobo...

I didn't see your initial post on here for a possible fall shoot... but I did get your posting about it, that you sent directly to my message box,  to which I have replied twice, now... directly back to you, but no response from you, yet... so thought I would check here to see if there was any signs of life.  ;D

YES!! I am Definitely interested... especially if it happens to be in late Sept. or early Oct... as my wife & I are planning on heading back out west in early Sept, or last week in Aug. for about 2.5 weeks(+or-) and so, "should" be back here by the end of the 3rd week in Sept, at the latest.

Will this be a 10M shoot, or a little of everything?....Do I bring rifles, pistols, revolvers, Multi-pumps, CO2, Springers or PCP's ???..... or a little of everything?? ;D   I have an assortment of metal targets (and paper) if you need a few extra, that I'd be willing to bring along if it would help you out (?).

As I asked you in my personal reply to your message to me... my wife, though not any kind of "sharpshooter".. does enjoy shooting AG's, and any chance I get for her to be around the sport to encourage her even more... I like to take advantage of, so... would there be any "up turning of noses"... if my wife would come along?... because if wives/women aren't particularly welcome to come and shoot, then neither will I attend, as we like to do things together....even though we don't "always" do so.... but, when I know it's something she really likes to participate in herself, then I have no desire to leave her behind,  so I'm really hoping that women are welcome to attend your fall shoot.

Hope to hear from you soon, so I can circle a date on my planning calendar before it get's filled up and we can't make it... we would really enjoy coming down for the shoot, and meet some more like minded air gun enthusiasts who are serious about the sport, as we are.;)

Thanks, Lobo.... and may you always hit what you're aiming at.;D

Lobo,
I just read your more recent post, suggesting Sept.30th for the fall shoot.... I will definitely pencil that in, on my calendar, and will plan to be there.... if you would... Please read and reply to either my previous post (just below this one), or to the replies (2) that I sent to your message box... in relation to women and wives being welcome to attend... especially if they enjoy shooting AG's.... as my wife, does. ;D

Thanks, and look forward to your reply.
Jim

Hi George,
Read your post on the page, here.. a day or two ago.  Welcome to the GTA Forum and Nevada,MO... Are you retired or ??  I'm retired, since a couple of years ago and just moved to the Stocton area (not too far east of Nevada), about 4 months ago after buying a house and a little land, here... enough room to shoot further than my AG's will probably have enough power to make it to the target with any energy, anyway. ;D

I would be interested in possibly shooting with you... what age bracket are you in?  Only asking, because "if" you're Really young... you might want to hook up with some other young fellows in your own age range.... more "in common" probably... just a suggestion, as I don't know... but I'm willing to shoot with most anyone who is Genuinely Serious about the sport of Air Gun shooting.... whether it's paper targets, steel, pesting, plinking, 10M competition, FTT, whatever.... just love to shoot and talk "shop" with fellow enthusiasts.

Would love to hear back from you, George.... will see from there.

Take Care & Shoot Straight.  ;D

Lobo...

Thanks for your two replies to me, over in my message box. My wife is thrilled that the gals are invited as well... So we Will be planning on being there... just keep us posted on the Sept.30th date... considering your job and all, sure hope it works out, and will be praying for Great weather. ;D

Take Care.... stay in touch.

Outlaw, I'm 48,so not retired, but I can see it coming. Not into real organized competition, but I used to shoot a lot of archery 3-d. I like the relaxed version of competition, more just people hanging out than serious competition.

Lobo... Thanks for your reply, I can relate to your thoughts on competition, and the only "competition" that we've ever participated in was just like you're planning.... friendly "get-togethers" although they were indoor 10M shoots... but "no pressure" of the serious nature... maybe some friendly chiding pressure, but that was about it... Lots of fun.

So, yes.. "relaxed competition" and just the sheer enjoyment of the shoot with like minded friends and new friends suits me (us) just fine, and we're very much looking forward to it and meeting you and all who come.       My wife is hoping she won't be the only female there.

Let me know if you will be coming down to the Stocton area, and I will come and meet up with you, can have lunch or something(?)... just give me a couple of days heads-up, so I can plan on being there and also to be able to reply back to you so we're "on the same page"... send it to my message box, as you did previously... would appreciate it, Thanks.

Take care,
Jim

Ooops!!!.... My humble apology to you, George.... I just realized that I answered You, thinking your reply to me below was from Lobo... who is hosting the shoot (not that far from you, actually) on Sept, 30th (we hope).... and so, I not only addressed it to him... but replied in kind as if it were he who wrote Your reply to me.... from another question I had asked him... earlier.

Are "we" confused yet?!??.... if not, you should be... I Am!!  ;D

OK... so now that I know who I'm replying to, just disregard my addressing you, as Lobo... and whatever I said in regards to the shoot, I guess everything else I said should apply to what you wrote in your reply to me on the 26th.

Perhaps we can meet up one of these days.... I can drive over to Nevada, it's only about an hours drive... we can hook up for lunch or something if you wish, or ???.... just let me know.

Are you thinking of coming to Lobo's shoot at the end of Sept.?.... should be a fun time, and you would get to meet some potential new shooting friends, which is always good.  ;D

I need to get some shut eye, need to get to Stockton first thing in the morning... hope to hear from you again, Soon... and getting together for some shooting.

Take Care,
Jim

Hello everyone!!!

Sorry for being absent! I took a job, and they have been bouncing my hours around, not to mention OT.

But yes, Sept 30 is a go. EVERYONE is welcome, regardless of experience, etc. I am still an amateur when it comes to airguns, and only have 2 or 3 myself.

As for the ranges, that is pretty open. This job has slowed my down cleaning up my place, but we have a couple of alternate sites that we can use.

I will do better about updates and keeping you all posted!

  More soon....

George (nomadgd),

Did you read my reply to you?.... you didn't address it in your most recent post here, or directly back to my message box.   I sent you a direct message to your own message box... did you get it?.... or do you know to access it?   When you sign in, there should've been a pop-up telling you that you have a message (or messages) in your box... just click on "my messages" in the header bar just below the top of the page.

Anyway.... I said, or rather suggested that perhaps we could meet somewhere for lunch or whatever and get acquainted and do some "bench shooting" (similar to "bench racing" - meaning, talk shop about our common hobby / interest, in this case... airguns).   Are you married, or have a girlfriend?... if either, does "she" have an interest in shooting as well?    I am married, and my wife has taken a keen interest in airguns as well and she has about a half dozen or so assorted air rifles and CO2 revolvers of her own now including her newest Walther Terrus - .22 cal... so if you are, and "she" is also, maybe the four of us could get together.

We live east/southeast of you... just a bit south of Stockton,  or about 45min to 1hr drive from Nevada, depending on which way I go there... anyway, would be great to meet up and get acquainted... and take it from there in getting together to do some shooting.  Nevada is obviously not far,  and I love driving to wherever... so let me know what works for you, and we'll make it happen.

Let me know your thoughts on all that.   Take care, and hopefully will hear back from you, soon as you can.
Jim

PS: If by any chance you're "into" slingshot shooting, crossbow pistols and/or, blowguns.... we're into them as well.... pretty well anything that launches a projectile.... within reason anyway. ;D ::)

Hey Lobo,
Sounds Great!!.... I have the 30th circled for the shoot, really looking forward to it,  haven't been to a shoot since spring of last year!!... went with "Doc" and a few other guys from the NASA club over to the East Tulsa Gun Club, which has a 30 Meter indoor shoot every Thursday night... and it's open to whoever wants to show up... there's usually anywhere from a dozen to 20 - 25 folks (locals, regulars) that show up there, and I have a card from the groups founder (84 yrs young and one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet) with a standing, open invite to come, anytime we want.... maybe some of us, could get together sometime, and take a cruise over there, all I need to do is call ahead, to let them know how many are coming and also to be sure there are no cancellations, day or time changes, first... they usually start at 6pm and go til 9 or 9:30pm (even,10pm), depending on how many actually show up... sometimes the wives show up to shoot as well, and a few single gals to.. from what we were told, a few of the gals are members of the Gun Club as well.

Anyway... stay in touch, and let Me (my message box) know ahead of time, Lobo... whenever you might be in the Stockton area, and I'll come and hook up with you.... as I said in my message to Your "message box"... when I replied back to you... did you get it?   Never heard back from ya.   Anyway, don't work Too hard, keep us all posted. ;D

Ooops, I told a couple of "lies" in my reply here, last night.... 1) It's NOT the "East Tulsa Gun Cub".... and 2) They do NOT have a "30 Meter" indoor range.

Correction.... 1) It's the Capital Oil Rod and Gun Club (In East Tulsa), and the Airgun Shoot has been going on there for 16 years, this year! Good for them, that"s Great that they've been shooting together for that long and still going.
2) it's a 10 Meter range (makes more sense!!) they have... Not 30 Meters!  :-[

Have a great rest of the week and weekend,
Jim

Hello there... sorry for the delay in answering, haven't been on here for a bit.. my apology. You're sure on the road a lot... trucking?  Sales?..... door to door airgun sales? lol  ;D
Are you still thinking of making the shoot at Lobo's on the 30th?.... IF, it happens?   Seems like nothing is for sure anymore,  as far as folks doing things together,  seems like there's always "something" to come along to mess it up these days.

I need to give Shane a call on of these days and see if they're even still gathering on Friday mornings for their shoot... would love to go again, even if it is about a 4 hour drive each way... it was worth it for us,  heck.. they even had a "2nd" shoot on Saturday morning in our honor just for us coming all that way... and we really appreciated Shane and the guys (and a few wives) who made it back for doing that... what a great bunch of guys (& gals) over there.

Well, it's getting late.. so will sign off for now... take care out there on the road... and don't forget,  if ever you're on I-44, east or west bound.... let me know ahead of time, and we can meet (if it works for you) at Hood's Truck Stop (exit 61), and get to shake hands with each other.   Would love to do that... just need a little - advanced notice,  perhaps a day, or two if that is possible for you to do.

Talk to you, soon...
Take care,
Jim

Anyway, don't work Too hard, keep us all posted. ;D

Jim

Hey Jim,

I got your message, but I am doing all my online stuff on my phone and it's kind of a pain, not to mention work and obligations have been keeping me way too busy! So I thought I would answer everything when we meet up.

Ok, about the shoot!!

All is looking good, just taking me longer than I planned!

As this is my first time hosting a shoot, it will be VERY informal. Just a fun shoot, really. I am working on a few more pellet traps for safety. I have some printed targets, and will have more before the shoot.

I am open to any suggestions, as you all seem to have much more experience in this venue than myself!

As far as shooting distances, I should be able to get out to 30-40 yards. However, I do have access to longer distances, if everyone is interested.

I will try my best to update with more information when I get home this evening. Sure looking forward to the shoot, and hope I don't disappoint!!!!

I'll bring some paintballs, spinners, and little green army guys and plastic dinos for some additional targets.

I will pick up a few things to throw on the grill. Was thinking taters, brats, and some burgers. Does that sound ok to everyone?

Also, it is possible (not certain yet) that I will have potable water on site by the shoot. I am sure trying to get that done.

Lobo,

Sorry, I'm a few days late on your latest post.... like you, I have been Busy around here.   Anyway, yes... the menu sounds ok, we can bring some chips to munch on to, if that's ok(?).

You mentioned potable water on site..... what about a bathroom in case of "need"?... my wife will be along as well.

Am thinking that you might want to post the directions to your place... or wherever it is you're hosting the shoot,  and the time you would like us there by as well, would be great.

Are we going to be doing any 10meter target shooting?..... "IF" so,  I will bring a couple of guns for that for my wife and I.... don't want to be blasting the stuffings out of any 10 meter targets if we can help it.  ;D

I have a new Walther Parrus (.22) with the Synthetic stock.. a beautiful gun, haven't even broken it in yet... need to clean it out first and lube it. IF... I can get that done and sight it in before the 30th, I'll bring it to the shoot... if not, will have to find something else or two to shoot.   I got a new Walther Terrus (.22) for my wife, but she hasn't shot it enough to actually "break it in" yet, either.

She likes her Disco (.22)... light and no recoil, so might bring that for her.

Well.... talk to you again, soon.... reply back asap Lobo, and let me know your thoughts on my questions.

Have a great week.

I might have been up for this if it were on a Sunday. I work six days a week so Sunday is about my only day to travel. Sounds like a good event and I hope you guys have a great time.

FWIW, I'm located in Jefferson City and happen to own 23 metal field targets. If somebody within about a two hour drive of Jefferson City is ever interested in setting up a shoot on a Sunday I may be able to provide my targets. We had an informal shoot last year and it went over well. I'd like to do something like that again but need to find the time and a place to host it.

Lobo,  Haven't heard from you for nearly three weeks now... everything still "on" for the 30th?.... weather permitting, of course.   If So, what time are we starting?  Also, I replied to your last post (Aug.29th) on here, on Sept. 6th.... please read it if you would, as I have some questions there for you... and would greatly appreciate a direct response to them on here.

Thanks,
Jim

Well as we approach closer to this weekend it's unfortunately looking like I won't be able to make it after all. I was really hoping to be able to go shoot, but you know how it goes with work and bills. Hope everyone still has a fun time.

Jim,

 Sure, chips are fine!

As for range distances, we can sure set up a 10 meter range. Maybe a 30 yard next to it, if ya want?

Amenities. I got smacked by a couple of unforseen bills, so I will have bottled water available. There is a porta John a couple of blocks from my place. Or the "bushes" are always available.
I will send you directions, or I can send my address if you use GPS.
Can we get a role call in regards to who's attending, please?

I forgot to mention time. I was thinking about 10 am for meeting up and getting started. That gives me time to hit the store for the meat. If that works for everyone?

It doesn't look like I'm going to make it.  I just got back within the hour from Eastern NE and KS, and Monday I take off again for SE Kansas/SW MO. I'm travelled out!  (I could have just about stayed on the west side of the state for the weekend, but my wife would miss me....)

Lobo,
Sorry for not responding to your posts... was out of state for about a week, just got back yesterday and have been busy with trying to fix my wifes car... miss firing under acceleration and on hills, and my pickup (GMC Duramax) decided to start leaking coolant the night before we left, and was going to take that.... first leak of any kind since new in 2002, and over 300K on the clock.

Have been up most of last night til now working on the car, hoping to take it to your place for the shoot... and now I see your re-scheduling it, which is Great!!..... now I will have time to be able to get both our vehicles fixed, and Not miss the shoot.... am a "happy camper" now.   ;D

Talk to you soon, Lobo...

Lobo
PS: Lobo, It's Sat. (Sept.30) at 11:12am.... just posted you a reply a few minutes ago and forgot to tell you that our trip was to Iowa... we went up to Mike Melick's (flyingdragonairrifles.org and world renowned tuner & seller of Chinese Airguns and well known on the forums and elsewhere) for a visit with he and his wife, as we usually do once or twice a year. While there, we built some new shelving for his new prefab "mini-barn" that he bought for extra storage space for new guns and parts.

I came home with Four (4) more, new air rifles (one was "New" the other three were Mikes and all Fully tuned and tweaked)..... "you can't have just One" ya know!!  ;D

I also picked up a few more Steel "reaction" targets along the way, here and there as well..... can't have "just One" of them, either... you know!!  ;).

Will call or text you soon.... have a great day/weekend.

Did this get together ever happen? There must be several of us in and near Springfield that would have a good time if we had some kind of a fun shoot. If there is still any interest let me know or could be just a couple of us meet somewhere. I do some shooting in my backyard but may not be to good for a group.

Are you still "alive"??  Haven't heard "boo" from you since Sept. 29th... send me a text or answer on here.  Hope all is going well for you.

My wife and I will be going right past the road to your town, tomorrow morning on our way to Nevada(Missouri).... give us a heads up when you can... so we all know your still around.

Take care..... do still come this way over Stockton Lake?

Hey Jim!

Sorry to hear about your vehicle troubles! Hope you got them lined out. I have been dealing with a rash of vehicle problems, myself. Motor on the car went south and had to get another vehicle. Have been having issues with the new (to me) vehicle and have been trying to get it lined out.

Sorry to everyone that things have kept me away from here.  I keep hoping things will slow down so that I can try to set up a shoot, although its looking like it might be a chilly one!

On a positive note, I now have water! So that will be one less issue when it finally happens.

I will try to post again very soon.

I will shoot you a text in the next day or two, Jim.

Sorry again for the delay

Hey Lobo,

Now it's MY turn to apologize for the delay.... WHERE?!!? does the time go?  I've got both my vehicles all sorted out now... actually, neither one turn out to be very major at all... well, the water pump on my Duramax was a real pain to get at, but it's done now, and everything is good.... actually better, I decided to change both thermostats on the engine while I was into it, and one of them was stuck Open, which I had a suspicion that at least one of them was, as it would take forever to warm up, and then it never would get up to where it should have been, so now it's running about 20 - 25 degrees hotter.

It's probably getting late in the year now for any chance of a shoot... guess it would depend on how "badly" the guys really want to get together for a shoot, and how cold... is "cold".  ;D   I have a contact number from a fellow in Springfield who wants to meet up, just to get acquainted, at least and is an airgun enthusiast.... and retired, like me.... I need to call him back, I've talked to him once so far, just briefly... and we decided I would call him next time I was in Springfield, and we (my wife and I) could meet up somewhere with he and his wife for lunch or something, but I've been into Springfield twice now, since then... and neither time gave us any opportunity (time) to call him, so will have to get in touch with him SOON, again... so he at least knows that I haven't forgotten him.

Right now my wife and I are both "fighting" a cold or something we both caught last weekend... somewhere in Springfield I guess... we both came down with whatever it is at the same time.. almost to the hour on Sunday.   First time I've been sick with anything in nearly 6 years... which seems to be about right for me, I usually go from 4 to as long as 11+ years without anything.

We were supposed to spend Thanksgiving (today...err, yesterday, now) with a buddy of mine and his wife that I flew with in VN during my last couple of years there... but with whatever it is we got, that didn't happen.  >:(

Hope you got to spend Thanksgiving with friends or family and didn't have to work or anything.

If you still have my ph. number... send me a text, so I know that you do... will try and call you, if that's ok(??).

Take care Lobo, hope we can connect one day in the near future.
Jim

PS: Not sure how the letter color got changed from Navy to black.. oh well,  anyway... forgot to say that I'm glad for you that you now have your water hooked up.... you must be happy with that.  It's good to have water... handy.  :D
