Why not laser sights?

I'm an old PB shooter but new airgun shooter. One thing I've learned from reading these forums is laser sights are not very common, but I don't know why.
In the PB world, putting a red or green dot on your target makes sense when you're dealing with close range objects, iron sights, or a mere 1x scope. Long range it is not so common. But in the airgun world, comparatively, all ranges are short. It seems like it would be ripe for a "red dot on target" sight. Why is that not as common here?

For one thing, spring piston airguns have a second recoil in the opposite direction from the first. If that is not taken into consideration in the design of the optics it will destroy them. The second recoil is, generally speaking, more powerful than the first. Also, red dot sights are not very precise. That's fine for hunting but it's not so good for target shooting. I don't like fiber optic sights for the same reason. Generally the dot on a red dot sight will essentially obscure the target making precise shot placement impossible. That's all just one person's take on the matter, though.

Red dots are for speed shooting big targets. Airgunners tend to be focus on precision, shooting little targets.

A Lazer sight would be handy for close up work where a scope wouldn't work so good. IMHO

Ive messed with it a bit.... and admittedly know little about the correct usage
Zerod my scope and laser to the same point. If the laser is above or below the bore, then the laser will show high or low. For example, if the laser is mounted under the bore, its pointing up. Targets _closer_ than your zero will have the laser below our crosshairs and farther than your zero will have the laser hitting above the crosshairs. my experiments. Reverse that if its above the bore.
I supposed that variance is less or more depending on your zero. I can see taht as a viable option in areas where your distance to target does change much (catching the rats coming thru a particular hole). One thing I did notice, with some practice I believe you could use the above/below LOS as a rudimentary range finder. Learn to read the distance between laser dot and corsshairs and youd be alot better off with your range estimations....
Willing to be schooled on this, as I too see it as another tool we could be using

I have a double barrel Beman 2016W .177/.22 that you can shoot the barrels individually. I tried a cheap one. I had the scope zeroed for the .177 and zeroed the laser for the .22. It worked ok in the evening or a cloudy day buy in the Sun not so good. I've tried a red dot sight on a 45 degree mount but for target shooing doesn't work that well. Really the trick was find a .22 that hot directly below the POI of the .177 and use mildots for the .22. Fun gun but more a novelty than serious shooting.

I've had a laser sight mounted on my 2240 for many years. It works great for pesting in close quarters where the light is minimal. I've also tried it on my HW100 BP-K. Scope sighted in at 50 yards for pesting pigeons on the roofs, and the laser sighted in at 10 yards for inside the buildings.
I've also found it helps while practicing steadying the rifle.
