Is...this...a...joke?Senior Contributor with close to 5000 messages bought his first air rifle THREE YEARS AGO? That's like, over 1500 messages per year, or around three airgun related messages every single day for three years straight, starting from 0, both message and hobby-wise.
I bought my first air rifle 3 years ago.
You guys are blowing my mind, but not in the least in a bad way. More like, makes me feel like a slouch
Maybe this site needs a prominently-displayed "sticky" about how TRULY ADDICTIVE this hobby is, LOL...Giving my age away, my re-introduction to airguns came in the mid-80's Beeman heyday. There was stuff out there more interesting than my Benjy 347 (still got it BTW, still shoots great) - who knew! My first buys of "serious" springers were a C1 direct from ol' Dr. Bob, and an HW 35 from one of his infamous "Used Airguns" lists. Neither hung around too long as they were sold to fund other pneumatic shiny objects.I currently have well over 50 guns, and would estimate close to 200 others have passed through here since that first fatal Beeman catalog.I've always been a fan of self-contained airguns; to me that's the essence of what airguns are about. I'm own mostly springers these days, but MSP's and SSP's have the same virtue. Maybe it's cuz my allowance as a kid wouldn't stretch to fund CO2 cartridges, LOL - but it's inherently cool that the actual projectiles are the only consumable needed. Just grab a gun and go shoot!
In the interest of full disclosure, I do own one CO2 gun - a Hammerli Master pistol. And I'd dearly love to get back the nice Crosman 157 I sold years ago, a little handgun of great accuracy and awesome handling.
Mike please post a picture of that Hammerli. My list only runs to 10 guns. I must be underfunded.....
This thread is nice to read. It is nice to see others with the “affliction” lol. I’ve been into guns in general and Airguns specifically for as long as I can remember. Some of my friends are starting to develop an interest in Airguns now too. I get a lot of questions from them. It seems to me from my own experience as well as reading many of your experiences here, it goes something like this:You have whatever you can afford as a youngster, later when your finances allow, you buy something better (just one nice rifle you tell yourself lol). Then you go through the “power” phase and get something like a 350 magnum or something along those lines. Then you go through the “PCP” phase. I still have a couple PCP guns but rarely use them. And finally, your collection will be somewhere between 20-50 pieces And you will have arrived at the point where you realize there is nothing better than a nice shooting springer. But you will never get rid of your pumpers or co2 guns because they are great also. I wish I could somehow save my friends from going through the PCP phase and just get straight to good quality springers. Even though PCP can’t be beat for accuracy, all the stuff they require in the field and the extremely high maintenance make them less fun to me. And there is something so rewarding about shooting tight groups with a springer as well as something so freeing about just grabbing a rifle and a tin of pellets and having some fun. Thanks all of you for your great posts on this thread. It’s really great to read how others have evolved withtheir Air gunning hobby.
