They shouldn't push back much, intake check valve is cruded up some.
Nice haul David. Can’t help with your questions, sorry. Front pumpers are kinda funky, but also kinda cool.
Did you look down the compression tube, to see if maybe there's something in the bottom, that would keep it from closing?
I'd measure the piston. Perhaps someone swapped in the wrong one while trying to get it working.I just saw that Timmy is making pistons for that pistol.Luck,J~

Measure from the valve face to the center of the pivot measures hole. Then, measure the length from the piston face to the center of the pump lever pivot hole. Also, did you look under the pump linkage? I've seen a couple of older ones that had a spring, to keep the pump handle closed, like on the Benjamin rifles. The spring could be broken, jamming the lever.

I guess I'll just have to go through it again I suppose. If it is leaking air back to the pump arm, maybe the seal is hard and not sealing very well. Or maybe the sealing surface for the check valve needs polishing. On my 300 front pumper the instructions say to push the arm in 'sharply'. That seems to work better than pushing it in slowly. Good looking guns. Keep us informed with your progress.Pat
I have a 177 also … doesn’t hold air … I would like to restore / repair it . How do I get the seals or parts to repair ? Do I try the Alcohol method first and if so how do I do it … need help …. Many thanks in advance
