Saw this on EBay this morning. Fascinating to see the prices of the European spring guns in 1978. Beeman must have had a good margin? Compare the German to the English Webleys and then to the American guns. I would think very few would have laid out that kind of cash for the best from Germany? Put $500 in a inflation calculator and it’s over $2000 today.

Well I'll take all the 58-buck peep-sighted Silver Streaks I can carry! And what's up with an HW 55 Tyro being cheaper than a 55 MM or a Webley Osprey Supertarget...?

Today we are used to thinking of Tyros and Running Boars as exotic collector's items. But back in the day...the market context was different.
All high-end target air rifles were pretty darn nice then, after all. Tyrolean stocks had recently been banned from high-level competition, and RB rifles were for a very limited application and required adding a pricey specialized scope. Sellers did what they had to do to keep 'em moving out the door...!

I purchased a 124 standard in 1979 and thought it was less than $200. shipped. I still have that rifle.

Interesting and thanks for posting that.
Wow, the Sheridan Blue Streaks with peeps sure increased in price in 1978!
I stopped at Beeman's on my way up to Dunsmuir, (where I live now), when I lived in Southern California in 1976 and bought two Blue Streaks with peeps. They were $39.99 without peeps and $42.99 with peeps! I still have one of them. Good ol’ days.

$100 in 1978 is $419.90 today. I might have been making about $14,000 before taxes (and thought I was doing pretty well, I might add). So, that $42.99 pumper would be like $183. Hmmm, still bets inflation, from what I e seem those bring. That $532 Tyrolean, OTOH? $2,234! I'm always amazed at what stuff sold for back then.
