An update on Loctite 380:
I used it on a Silver Streak that had breech separation, and part of the barrel was loose too.
It worked well for a while.
But, it has come loose a few days ago.
Possibly because I installed a rear sight a few months ago; back then I noticed that the Loctite at that location had lost the battle against the separating force of the rear sight. I should never have put that rear sight back on!
Anyway, just wanted to share this with you: Loctite can probably work well for a while, but I guess I would now go the Tim McMurray re-soldering route if I were living in the "Land of the Free"
He would not accept my Loctited Silver Streak disaster though lol.
Cheers, Louis

Another further update on Loctite 380. About a year and a half ago I used this technique to repair barrel separation at the muzzle of a Benjamin 312, vintage very late 40's. Gun was purchased "not working, for parts". My restoration was a learning experience and a very pleasing success. However, like Louis, I too have recently noticed the joint has come loose again. So, I am exploring other repair options (clean and prep surface, then soft solder??). Like they say, if it (Loctite 380) sounds too good to be true, maybe it is. - Michael

Sorry for your failures.
I will quit recommending it.

Had the Breech blow off my Blue Streak. Separation was from back of breach up past rear sight. Never did repair it had no idea what to do at the time. I would think the proper way would be to separate barrel completely and them clean both surfaces. This would require tearing down the rifle.
I worked industrial maintenance for most of my life. We used a solder flux for most of our repairs. Comes in a paste and can be worked in to cracks with a brush. Low temp melting and works very well. I seldom solder without it amy more. If I was to attempt a partial solder repair like this rifle requires I would try some of this.

Jim - Thank you for the suggestion. I have some DIY experience with soldering (electronics, stained glass, household plumbing) but had never heard of a combined powered solder in flux paste. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to try it -Markal Solder Brite 50/50 Flux/Solder has been discontinued. It looks like if I can figure out how to remove the Loctite 380 residue, I will have to resort to plain old paste flux and separate 50/50 solder. At the moment I am suffering from "perfection paralysis" - I really don't want to mess up the patina of this 70+ year old classic. - Michael

There are a few repairmen around who can solder the barrel. They won’t like the other stuff stuck to it , but you might get one to do it. Most remove all the parts inside the tube due to possible heat damage.

If you decide to use the flux/solder once it starts to flow run a small seam down each side with a piece of solder. Should not so good it right in.
If soldered your finish will need touched up for sure. I have used Birchwood Casey's Brass Black on my Benjamin 132 with good results. It looks close to the original finish on my Benjamin, wears about like the original finish. YMMV

I bought mine new in 1962 and after some 20yrs it too separated at the solder points between the bbl and brass air tube. Never did fix it as it’s mostly cosmetic and doesn’t affect accuracy. In the past it’s been back to the factory twice for free rebuilds and I still shoot it often even though the airgun rack has many others to choose from. What a great gun!

Says it's non-acid flux, that's a good thing.

Thanks to all who have responded thus far, and my apologies to Pasquale01 (Tony) for hijacking his thread. I just thought it important to let anyone researching how to fix barrel separation that Loctite 380 may not be the panacea we hoped for. Perhaps the same could be said for 50/50 solder and flux paste, at least in this application. So far, no one with direct experience using that product in this application has responded, one way or the other. It seems the best approach is the old fashioned one - strip the gun of its internals, damp rag for heat sink, flux, solder (not too much), then deal with external appearance as seems appropriate. Now I just need to get a round tuit. Again, thanks. - Michael
