I've got an 880 that I enjoy plinking with and small varmint control as well as squirrel hunting, but sometimes .177 isn't quite enough. What's the best cheap .22cal air rifle out there? It can be a pumper or a break action. We're talking less than $200. Does such a thing exist?

I've seen a few Benjamin Prowlers come up for sale used locally for $100. Is that rifle worth it?

How big is the "Large" pest?
'Coon / Rabbit / Woodchuck/ Opossum??

I think you will get replies both Pro and Con on the Crosman / Benji break-barrels.
I have a Crosman Genesis N/P with a CDT trigger I like it for what it is... Just don't expect HW / Diana quality.
It has dropped a couple of coons out of the tree.

Yup, I have a .22 prowler in a wood stock, you bring the artillery hold, it'll bring you the shot. PM me, I may be willing to part with her.

Just so you know, it kicks hard and has a 1 pound trigger.

I recommend the 392, just so you do not go into springer shock, this will need a scope and mount, due to the style of the stock, but will hit bigger critters with accurate authority.

I'd recommend the Ruger Blawkhawk, that seems to be a fan favorite on Amazon at only $120. But that's in .177, not sure if .22 is as readily available.

I don't know this for a fact, but I'm willing to bet that the XS25C recommended darn near the same rifle as the Ruger. Appearance-wise alone, its a deadringer for the Blawkhawk.

If you can find a .22 Crosman valiant or .22 crosman diamondback for around $150 its worth while. Both would work great for anything from sparrows and chipmunks to raccoons and woodchucks to around 50 yards.

I haven’t seen a bad recommendation yet!  Every gun mentioned will do the job on anything up to and including trash pandas.  I’ll stick in my two cents for an XS 25 from Mike Melick at Flying Dragon Air Rifles.  You will not find a better gun for the money.  That said, I really like Hatsans and an Edge in .22 has a definite advantage in muzzle energy over an XS 25.  8)

Airhawk and the XS25 are the same gun. Ruger is in just .117. XS25 can be had in .22

I've had good luck with the Hatsan 95 at getting a lot of power and with good accuracy. I found this Mod 85 for sale on Hatsan website (https://hatsanairgunsusa.com/product/_refurbished-mod-85-spring/), basically the same rifle with different stock and muzzle break.

Walther Parrus for $150 is a pretty good deal.

That's a great price. From what I've read the Parrus  is very loud.  But a grest shooter.

Without turning this into a "dark side" thread... my favorite break barrel is my Crosman Crusher in .22cal. I have never serviced it and I've shot well over 3k rounds through it.

I got it equipped with a BSA 3 color red dot sight. Pests don't stand a chance. I used it a lot last year on chipmunks that kept making nests in an electric enclosure. Between the Crusher and my Fortitude, it made work of them. Except for one of them that got blown up and sauteed up by electricity.

I was curious to see what my .50cal Pile Driver could do to a chippy... I'm sure it would've equated to what I found inside of my electric enclosure... lol
