Did I reach the max vertical adjustment of my Hawke scope?

Trying for the first time my new-to-me Diana 460 Magnum .22 springer this afternoon at 22.5 yards, I found the RWS 14.5 grain Superdomes were almost zeroed. Switching to H&N Baracuda Match heavy 21.14 grain pellets, the groups dropped about 3 inches at distance. I adjusted the vertical turret up and got almost to center of bullseye, hoping to zero half an inch higher than that. Then the unexpected happened folks. The group dropped down about 3/4 inch.
Uh oh. Did I go beyond a limit I shouldn't have gotten close to? My rifle is equipped with a drooper base. Worried I might have done some damage to the scope as now the groups seem to wander 3/4 inch or so, but that might also be me tired and not shooting my best after a first time session with a new-to-me rifle.
My Hawke was bought secondhand with the D460 so I guess there's no warranty coverage on it.
Thanks for input.

It's smart to be concerned. What Hawke scope is it? Only the Airmax is springer rated. The Vantage line they say are are good only to about 12fpe on a springer. Can you elevate the groups higher to get your zero? Did the elevation turret stop turning counter clockwise? If the groups won't raise any higher and the elevation turret stops rotating counter clockwise or soon afterwards it's safe to say the scope is maxed out. Or broken. To check, dial the group down a full clockwise turn on the elevation turret and see if you're groups drop and stabilize. If they do and go back responding to smaller adjustments, your maxed out and need a different barrel droop solution. If they don't the scope is likely broken. Also dieseling, detonation and or a bad piston seal can cause groups to open up and move around. Do you smell any oil or have smoke coming from either end of the barrel?

I had my vantage break in 2 months on a .177 magnumG2. Sent it in and finally got an upgraded airmax but They did want proof of purchase when I did warranty.
But I. The beginning I did exactly what you did & thought the same thing, but in windage & what I came up with was this.
I turned the dial all the way one way counting clicks then, turned back half those amount of clicks.
Took a couple groups different clicks, I chose the best & ran with it..
Everything worked out fine (scope wasn't broke) till later down the road my left mill section disappeared
EDIT : I forgot to mention I shimmed the back scope ring with a cutout of a coke can till I got the sportsmatch adjustable mount. Great piece.
This was the day It Broke 🥶

I don't know if you actually need a droop type mount with that gun. Some do, some don't. As far as that scope, if it is actually bad contact Hawke. They would be the best place to get an answer. Hawke carries a lifetime warranty but it may or may not extend to you having received it used.

My scope is an a Hawke Airmax EV 4-12X50 AO. It was bought by the first owner (a friend of mine) from AoA along with his new Diana 460. The rifle and scope combo is now proudly mine. I'll try what's suggested (thank you)and go from there.
No smoke or burning smell noticed when shooting but there was a slight breeze as I enjoyed the process. Hope I've not messed my scope up.

Don't forget to check your stock screws too.

Follow-up here. I got the 460 and Hawke out yesterday to see if I damaged it raising the vertical to bring POI up with the heavy pellets. Did as suggested here and lowered the vertical a full turn. Appears that all is ok although the gun shoots low with the 21 grain .22 pellets at 20 yards. I'm sitting right there for now though. Still waiting for available 18 grain pellets to see if a drooper base is needed. Currently I don't think my 460 does, because there are no markings on the base. Came from a big online retailer complete a few years back. My UTG base on my D34 has graduation markings.
Thanks for the help friends. Don

If your nearing max elevation clicks on the scope turret you do need droop compensating mounts.
