Hey. I have a Winchester 1977xs and apparently my son left it pumped up without firing it. Needless to say, I went to pop a varment in the yard and I could literally throw the bb further than it shot. Checked the barrel and everything and tried again. It's really hard to pump and when you pull the trigger, there's just a small thump sound, NOT they sound I'm used to. Where can I learn how to take it apart and check seals and whatever. It's out of warranty and hate to just toss it in the trash. It never has liked shooting pellets either but this was just a bb.

Sounds like it is over pumped to me.
Gone onto valve lock.
Not sure if that is possible, but sounds like it....
If repeated cocking and firing doesn't eventually release the pressure, you may have to open her up IMO

Valve lock is what I was thinking too. You mentioned it was hard to pump and if it’s valve lock, you sure don’t need to pump any more till you get it to release!
As Ron said, just cock the bolt and shoot, but without pumping at all!
If your lucky, it’ll release the air little by little each shot till it can dump it all.
Is it shooting out a bit of air each time you just cock and shoot without pumping it?
Another thing that can make you have to “fight” the pump handle is a blown inner seal so the air comes back against the piston head.
If it were the valve seal, the air would just pump out through the gun as you try to pump it.... you would hear it hissing as you pump.

A blown chamber seal would cause the rifle to become a single-stroker, and pumping resistance would be akin to the first stroke
normal mode..not too hard.
Now, if the chamber seal was somehow stuck, that would be a different story altogether.
Pump resistance would be high, but no air would be reaching the valve; hence it would not shoot.
But, the "small thump sound" still sounds like a very small release of pressure thru the exhaust valve.
Valve lock still gets my vote.
The youngster was experimenting with the limits of pumping pressure, and exceeded them.
So, he put it down and walked away........

Yep, that would be my 2 dollar bet too.
Hope the op can just cock and shoot it out a little at a time.

Thanks for the vid, Ms. Michelle.
There definitely is NO air passing the exhaust valve when fired.
So, the rifle has become way over pressurezed due t the subsequent hard pump strokes.
or no air is entering the chamber.
Starting to sound lime the chamber seal is stuck to the walls of the pump tube.
Surgery is indicated...........
A query: the 1977 has a hole on the underside of the receiver just ahead of the trigger guard.
If the top of the valve stem is present in that hole, then the valve open...at least the metal stem is open.
I suppose it is possible for the plastic poppet to come off the stem, but highly unlikely.
If the metal stem top w/c-clip is NOT visible at that hole (not deeper inside the receiver) then valve lock is the culprit....

I have seen a vid....the valve is not locked, but, now it pumps too easy......
Sounds like chamber seal (more likely).........or exhaust valve (not too likely.)
