The actual guns themselves do not bear the "XS" in the number on the receiver, do they??I have seen "Model 77", and "Model 1977" on the receivers.I believe the "XS" nomenclature pertains to the inclusion of the scope with the rifle. Correct??I have now purchased a used 77 and a used 1977...........Maybe I can ply the screwdrivers to see if I an ascertain any internal differences.....
540 with only 3 pumps, what's not to like?Hunter
Maybe not on the lower pumps like 1 through 6.But yeah, maybe on the higher end.... my handle flexes a good bit on pumps 7 through ten. A stiffer handle might put more air in on those last pumps, if that’s what you mean by benefitting from a stiffer handle?

I have not as yet received either rifle.I did get the parts sheet for the model 77 from Daisy. It has reference numbers and a legend with part names, but no part numbers.........

Mine was the same way but going to 10 now is no problem.Yeah, mine is better now after a bit of break in.I think that’s why i gained a bit more speed on my last chrono session with the daisy pellets. There’s still a bit of flex in the plastic handle though, which is what Ron was getting at. A metal non flexing handle would pump a bit more air each stroke.Leonard, i’m Glad you posted on your 1977’s in my daisy 880 thread. Your the one that got all this started lol.I knew from what you described, that at least “some” changes had been made. However, I Did Not expect an out of the box, over 800 FPS. with lead pellets daisy pumper; which is exactly what I got... you were right all along. It’s been a long time coming, but if these new guns hold up, Daisy has done it again. Thanks so much for the “heads up” in that other thread!
