I can't make it (would spectate anyways), but it sounds like a great event. Hopefully the GTA members participating chime in and give a review of their experience there.

I'm going! I hope there is a T-ball style participation award, because that's the only way I'll get anything against those sharp shooters!

[Mark,
Lilly and I will both be there Saturday to cheer you on, we'd be some of the speckled taters behind the glass. I'll give you a pellet pouch for driving up. (You may have to remind me about the pouch, this year I get to hide my own Easter Eggs)

Well, I made it up to to shoot in the open sectional. Here is my report:
First - WOW!!!! What a facility!!!!!!! This is the first time I have gotten to shoot in a facility specifically designed for precision shooting. If you have a chance to go by CIPS facility for any reason, you should go. Beside having two large rooms with lanes for the competition, they have a good size area behind the lanes (behind glass, so as not to distract the shooters) for viewing the competition. They also have a nice kitchen. And talk about a toybox!! Air Arms! Walther! Air Force! Both air and rimfire precision guns! A shooter could have a lot of fun in this place. I was the only shooter there not using a PCP.
Second - the competition. I knew I would be outclassed, but I was pitted against some really tough young ladies who were seasoned in the heat of competition. They made short work of me. But I am prepared, I have my list of pathetic excuses:
1. Horrible weather, so I ran late and started shooting in a tizzy
2. Shot with a different pellet than I practiced with so my sights were off.
3. Too busy working to practice...for the last month...
4. I think my rifle was older than the combined ages of all my competitors.
5. I not so good.
Third - the host. Dave Randolph aka "outaammo" shared his dream of having and indoor GTA shoot there when the weather gets too crappy to shoot outdoors. $10 bucks for hotdogs and all the targets we can perforate. If this happens I'm for sure going to be there, you guys definitely don't want to miss this opportunity. But bring your low power rifles. Dave might be able to chime in about what power would actually be acceptable, but I'm sure it isn't 40fpe.
Anyway, I had a blast! Keep an eye on the CIPS calendar and look for any match listed as "open". And lets have fun at the next one!

Mark, thank you for the write up, it describes everything well.
My week had some major changes in, we stopped my the range Friday. We had spent most of the week in Iowa,We were too tired to drive back up Saturday. While we were at the range, Dave showed up around the facility, a very likable person.
There were 3 boys ( not full grown) that were doing a fine job of hiding pellet holes in the black. Had I been shooting, there would have been no way that I could have eaten all the humble pie the boys would have served me. My backside would still be setting there on a platter.
Please go to Central Illinois Precision Shooters website and look at it. They would really like to have more GTA members shooting. It is a great facility and we have been invited.
