Title: IS Crosman Custom Shop still open for business??
Post by: cvasquez on March 23, 2021, 01:45:49 PM
Im thinking of ordering a 2300KT and I dont see the link or find the Custom Shop? Also anyone know if the barrels they use as good as the Walther Lothar barrels and do both screw into the steel breech or just slip in and held with set screws.

Their site states opening soon. I think they closed it during the pandemic

Oh, I see. so then it may have been closed for quite some time then, too. Last time I was on that website it showed alot of accessories where you build or add on to the basic gun. But Im also seeing soemthing about barrels screwing into the steel breech and wonder if this is now standard. A much better attachment .

I'm one of the last people to get something from the CCS before they closed.  My 2400KT has a build date of Dec 9th.  I think they closed about a week later.  The gun has a Crosman barrel and I'm pretty sure it attaches into the breech the normal way.

It looks like the Chinavirus Damnpanic hit Crosman hard in many ways besides the Custom Shop. Just look at their inventory, except for some VERY expensive air-guns, most things are out-of-stock.

The R1 Full Auto was out of stock for a long time, Amazon only just got a bunch two weeks ago. Amazon had the R1 listed on a wait list at $144.95 and showed just two weeks ago that the wait would be until likely late June, maybe even early July. I took my chances and ordered one at the price, nuts not to. Then I was shocked when Amazon notified me that mine was arriving 5-15-21! Hot "dang", glad I took that chance! Now they are back up to $177.95

Never heard or saw any Crosman breech that was a "screw-in" type.  All Walther barrels from Crosman are held in by the set screws.  I never had a problem with that set up.

a few weeks ago when I ordered some parts, i asked them. the custom shop is closed because they have a barrel shortage. they had no idea when that would be corrected so we just have to keep waiting.  ;)

I have no special information about what Crosman will do in the future but I know from experience what they have done in the past.  The barrels, both Crosman and Luthar Walther have/had o-rings in a turned down area at the end of the barrel and they slipped into the breech and were held in place with set screws.  My guess is that the operation that puts the ends on the barrels by turning down an area with lands for o-rings is a lot cheaper to perform and much faster also than whatever it would take to put threads on the end of the barrel AND inside the breech. In fact, a threaded breech might be a bigger hurdle than a threaded barrel.  However, if asked, I would beg Crosman to develop a short steel breech and some each Crosman and LW barrels that were threaded on BOTH ends and then sell them at a premium price to reflect the extra work involved.  I would also like to see them offer wooden blanks for grips where the user can carve them up a bit and finish them to his own liking.

I can think of a half dozen replacement items that the Custom Shop could make and sell that Crosman has always left to the aftermarket.  It is probably 10 years since I asked them for the first time to make a breech that took a multi-shot magazine.  And, it would not take very much to offer a nice two stage trigger that is better than the original equipment.  But, they just don't seem to want to do that kind of thing.  Personally, I think that there is more to it than simple product liability.  Crosman just seems to like being in the middle, and not leaning too much towards either edge of the airgun market.  Whether or not two or three fully automatic bb shooting products represents a change in a policy like that, I wouldn't care to guess.

Being in NY certainly hasn't helped them any.  Perhaps the new governess will correct some of the over-compensating lockdown edicts - she certainly seems to have gotten off to a better start with other areas of government.

When I've needed things from Crosman, I have turned to the EVP PDFs to find the part number, and then telephoned.  The guy I spoke to on the phone was the same one I had e-mailed with questions a day or two before, so perhaps staffing is still an issue.  Once I placed the order, it was only a day or two before it shipped.  And they seemed to have been very economical about the shipping, which I appreciated.

My point is, it sounds like they're doing the very best they can in a very difficult situation.  They deserve our support!

Does anyone know whether a custom be ordered via phone call... or are they not taking orders at this time?

Can Lothar Walther barrels be ordered from Crosman?

Thanks,
Jim

As an alternative the Crosman 2240XL looks like a good pistol to modify and accessorize.  I got a couple for two children and added buck-rail silencers, under rails, weapon lights and Hawke red dots.  I left the trigger alone since the pistols were gifted to a couple of kids.

Despite the heavy trigger pull and cheap pellets, I thought the pistols were fairly accurate to 20 yards.  I haven't given one of the pistols to the little girl yet but the boy loved it and could not shoot it enough.
