Title: Xisico JTS GX-E-CS3 Compressor In Stock
Post by: WesBob on April 02, 2020, 01:38:37 PM
Hi Guys!
I managed to snag a few of these new Xisico JTS Compressors, and they are now in stock.
First impressions, I'm impressed! Smaller than I imagined! Pumps much quieter than I imagined as well.  Here is a short little video of testing it to 300 bar with the plug in the fill whip. https://youtu.be/RW2wHbb9bOU
I'll give some tested fill times as I try it out further.
The manual says it's good to go up to 310 bar and the sales manager informed me it can fill larger tanks as long as you give appropriate cool down periods every 20 minutes or so.
It comes with some wrenches, parts, burst disks and a syringe for adding grease.
Here is few pics and the link to my site.
Price is right around $492usd plus shipping, around $520 total.
https://airgunarcheryfun.ca/jts-gx-e-cs3-compressor/
Here is a pic with my hand on it as reference, showing how small it is. Nice and portable!
Thanks,
Wes

Thought I'd mention that Xisico promised to take care of repairs and warranty for me, for US customers, to save on all the added cost of shipping between countries. In Canada customers can send their compressor to me for repair, but anyone can call or email me with issues and I can help with parts support etc or troubleshooting.
Thanks,
Wes

Does it come with the DC to A.C. converter? Does it have a filter built in?

Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Nathan, it comes with the converter yep. There is a pre-filter inside and it's supposed to have an oil/water separator as well, on the bleed I suppose, but it doesn't come with the fill whip filter. So something I'd definitely recommend getting. I've got a few of the medium size ones with the cotton filters and I've got some of the bigger black filters coming.
Thanks,
Wes

After having two Xisico rifles the company seems to build decent products.  I have taken one of them apart completely and I thought the build quality was impressive.  I remember when Travis was putting one of those compressors through a lot of torture with great results.  At the price of them it would be hard to turn down if I already didn't have a compressor.

Hi Guys,
All my compressors are sold now but I'll be getting more in May.
I filled a paintball tank, the 13ci from 0 to 3000psi, and it took 9 minutes, so these are basically the same speed as a Nomad. Not fast but nice and quiet, and fill guns pretty quick without a huge racket, unlike the Yong Heng.

Looks like airgunarcheryfun sold total of 8 compressors. I ordered #5 last Saturday. Estimated delivery next Tuesday. All dive shops near me are closed due stay at home laws. I'm running low on HPA. Looking forward to having my own compressor.

Are there any rebuilt parts or kits available for this compressor. What type of maintenance is needed for a long life.

It comes with a few parts and some wrenches and a syringe to grease some parts every 50 hours.
Xisico is providing parts support, and I'll ask for some rebuild kits when my next order ships out in May.

Wes

I think that any vender that does get these compressors will have a fast sell out like Wes did.   I think this compressor will put the Yong Heng in the airgun history books soon ???

It's a different animal Wayne so I'm not so sure. The Yong Heng is a lot faster and so it's more suited to big tanks than the JTS. But for those filling guns and small bottles, I agree, this is very nice, and fits that niche very well.
Thanks,
Wes

Wes, is it quieter than the Hatsan Spark?  I'm assuming the fill rate is probably the same, just curious if it would be less noisy...  Sorry, the Hatsan Spark and YH are my only frame of reference since I've not owned any others.  Thanks...

The Hatsan Spark looks like the same idea as the Nomad and New Warrior. I haven't had one, but the JTS is quieter than the New Warrior, and the New Warrior is pretty quiet.
So I'd guess it's quieter.
Thanks,
Wes

Thanks Paul. In early may it sounds like, but I need to get a better idea of the date from Xisico.

Yes my wife was surprised too, and said it wasn't bad and she is extra sensitive to noise. 🙂
What I'm courious about is how long of a extension cord can be used on the transformer?
Looks like it draws 50amps so maybe some electrician can tell us what will work at what length.

Its no where near 50amps maybe 7 amps. Ill test mine shortly and see.

Its no where near 50amps maybe 7 amps. Ill test mine shortly and see.

It's going to depend on the efficiency of the converter. IF the converter were able to transfer 100% of the energy then it would be 5 amps at 120 volts. 600 watts = 50amps x 12 volts. 600 watts also = 5amps x 120 volts.
Since the inverter is NOT 100% efficient if will be more. Generally the closer you run the inverter to it's rated power the more efficient it will be  due to the power used by the inverter.

My guess would be the current draw will be somewhere between 6 and 10amps.

My Xisico JTS compressor was delivered yesterday. So just a short review for those interested. Wes at Airgun Archery Fun responded to any questions I emailed him within minutes. Also I ordered on Saturday and he shipped out on Monday.  Excellent service. Arrived 17 days from time of placing the order.  Not too bad considering it shipped from Moose Jaw, Sk, Canada to Mississauga, On, Canada, into the USA and on to Chicago where it went through customs. It was turned over to USPS in Chicago and then took 6 days to arrive at my door in St. Louis, MO.  It's about a 3 hour drive from Chicago to St. Louis. Compressor & converter were packed very well inside styrofoam inside a box. No damage. I read instructions and then tested it with plug in fill whip. Everything tested OK. So I filled my small Guppy air tank (118 cu in) from 1900 to 4500 psi.  Total compressor time was 86 minutes.  I would fill for 20 minutes then shut off compressor and let cool for 20 minutes. After each 20 minutes period I would open bleed valve to drain a small amount of water. After I filled the Guppy, I removed the small final filter at Guppy to inspect. It was dry and no dirt or any discoloration. So seems that the internal water separator supplied with the compressor works well. I used a sound meter app on my android phone and sound lever at about 4 feet was 79 - 80 dBA. Not bad noise at all.  Thats about all I know. I'm filling my Great White (550 cu in) now.

If you received a compressor they Donot ship with oil you have to add it! Don’t run till properly filled with compressor oil. There’s a site window near bottom on power cord side under plastic plug, fill to middle of window. On other side under plastic plug is the fill hole it has a flat for a screw driver or 13/16 socket I believe. Remove plug fill slowly while looking threw site window on opposite side till oil is half way up window

@Travis: Your compressor, although the manual is the same, is not the same as the one I received from Wes.  I have not turned it on yet because the manual does not match the unit I received and I thought it strange that there was no mention of oil filling or air filter.

@Wes  Do you have any instructions that match the unit you sent me ?

So Larry from Xisico was talking to the factory in China during the night and they are saying they changed the compressor so it would not need oil, that's why the manual doesn't give instructions on it. Travis is looking into it, and what best practice will be.
Sorry for the confusion, we'll get it all sorted out yet.
The good news is that the pumps that have been running must have some kind of lube protection in there so should not have gotten damaged.

I have seen questions on Amazon about the one that looks similar.  What seems odd is those used to only require some grease be added maybe once a year, but now require no maintenance at all.  So, why did the one JSAR have use compressor oil?  Granted, these may be totally different compressors, or were at some point in the past.  Hard to really say...

Here's one of the questions on Amazon about the change.

I am also interested to know if this new one with the round metal buttons has the upgrades you tested Travis.
It looks the same as that red amazon one, just with a black JTS case.  The cabling is all on one side, it has cut outs for the 12v leads to tuck in, and it has the round metal buttons on the back instead of the rectangle plastic ones.  I prefer the look of the new design as long as it's the same one you tested Travis.

Just topped off my zbroia 200b to 300b this is the second time doing this with oil in the compressor. The first time when I let off the pressure on the oil water separator. I got just water droplets. This time around I got milky water droplets and the hose has milky residue left in the hose. I checked the gold filter going into the gun. Was clean and dry. Second pic residue from the pressure relief hose.

Yep I added oil before Wes said the mfg said it was a a new oil-less design. I was going by what was advertised as a oil cooled unit from the xisico website. It has a oil reservoir and a fill plug.

Seems to be a lot of unanswered questions about this compressor.  The oil/no oil question is quite disturbing, seems you could cause some serious damage running oil in an oil-less compressor or not adding it to one that needs it.  The manufacturer really needs to step up their game and include accurate info with the compressors when they ship!   :o

Pretty sure the same one on Amazon said the syringe is for adding grease not oil.

Mike bought two from me but he's in the dark as well though he has run them oilless and may still be doing so, so it'd be good to hear what he thinks. Xisico has commissioned Travis to tear one down and give his verdict so that's what is happening and why we haven't heard anything. JTS told Xisico after all this question started that this is a new oilless design. Travis is checking it out presumably to make sure it will stand up as is or if switching back to oil is a better idea.

Compressor is here and Ive taken it all apart and They have indeed packed the bearings with grease. So their intent was to run it oilless. I contacted Xisico and GTX and recommended they ditch that and go back to a oil bath system for many reasons. If you add oil to the compressor now it will break down the grease and pollute the system and most likely cause it to stop working until the compressor can be cleaned out. So my recomendation is at this point is either use it like it came and if anything happens I will have Xisico replace the unit OR pull the piston and clean out all the grease and fill back with synthetic pump oil. Ill know more on Monday.

Travis any word on the jsar shipment? I'm really curious if the those compressors are different. I know you spent lot of time testing designs and finally approved to be built. I'm curious if xisico built that shipment to your specifications.
What kind of bearings is the unit you have built with?

I have no association with JSAR anymore. The pumps all have roller bearings.

Travis what kind of timeline would you see Xisico replacing the unit, within the 1 year warranty? What if we buy the unit from Wes?  Would he be able to get a replacement beyond the 1 year warranty?  I'm really looking for the unit that will last the longest, it sounds like the oil filled one is the way to go.

Travis were the other upgrades done that you had made or is this a whole new design from the ones you tested?

If I had a big bore that I used regularly I'd probably buy one of the portable ones too, it's very understandable on something like that because some of them take over 4K to fill and most are around 250 bar fills I think, that would deplete a full 1 hour SCBA in a hurry.

I got a Benjamin Recharge. It uses water for cooling and oil for lubrication. It works really well, but I wouldn’t consider it in the same category as these. It doesn’t run off 12v and is pretty heavy to lug around. It is pretty fast though. Topped off my 90ci tank today, from 3000 psi to 4500 in about 10 minutes and the temp never got above 67C. It would probably be a good choice for your hunt camp, it will fill guns and tanks and is fully self contained.

After reading this post I went to Crosman site, they're out of them right now but I was never aware of the compressor until I read this post.  They're probably similar to the other comparible ones at about the same price but being they're sold by Crosman I'd be less hesitant about buying one of these than the others if I really needed a compressor.

Wayne, Crosman CS has already been top notch!  UPS destroyed 2 of them in transit. Crosman sent the 3rd by freight on a pallet. It arrived in perfect condition!  Of course, that’s probably why they are currently out of stock, UPS probably destroyed more than they delivered in one piece!  Optics Planet sells them also, and their price is a couple hundred below what Crosman is asking!

It looks very similar to the Omega's ??? It also is self contained like the Omega's as well with on board water and oil.  It appears you could get one for about the same price the F10's originally cost when they were $1299.  Much faster than the F10 too and probably a lot handier for filling an individual gun than the F10.  I have never used my F10 for filling a gun directly, always fill tanks with it.

As a matter of fact my F10 is set for about the the exact output my Liberty's max fill is, maybe I'll give it a whirl.

I bet it's a matter of time before the  amazon GX3 one has the same internals as the JTS.  I feel like that's how things work in China....

Travis is it just a matter of taking the compressor apart, degrasing all parts and filling it with oil?  I am interested in an oil filled one if that means it will last longer.  I'm sure there will be a rebuild video showing how to convert them to oil filled?  ;)

The latest word from Xisico is that the factory has done some rigorous testing of this new compressor with grease and they feel confident this is an upgrade not a downgrade and they are willing to back it up with warranty. I'm not trying to contradict anything, as I'm no expert and I respect Travis' expertise, I'm just relaying what the factory is reporting.

They have a 1 year warranty. I assume Travis will be doing some testing of these since they asked one of my customers to send to him their compressor. They are also sending parts to him I believe.
This is actually great for the airgun community having different people test them, and a big thanks to Travis for being willing to check these out. Hopefully we'll have some good news or good advice on what works best, and perhaps some videos will come out of this on best practices for break in and maintenance.

Moved most of the clean grease on the piston to the gear reduction. Put it all back together added oil won't pump up to 1000psi. No surprise after finding how bad I might have screwed up the adjustments on the high side rod and piston system. Pics of high pressure rod, high piston with rings, spring, valve core (some kind of ball of some sort of material) and high pressure cap. My question how far down to screw the high pressure cap on to the high pressure valve core. And the overall height of the high pressure rod assembly

Interesting design, with that spring in there on the high pressure piston. That little ball and spring, I'm guessing, are the high pressure check valve, and I would assume you tighten the piece that holds it in place, all the way down. :o

The oil bath sounds to me like it would be a lot better for longevity of the pumps, especially since they've already got decent bearings in the lower end.

Ok good news after a LONG conversation with the owner and reps I convinced them to strip all the grease from compressors in Huston and supply oil. This will be a long hard job and messy job but they want to do the right thing. ALSO I have the updated compressor in the shop testing it and it has all the upgrades I recomended and changed over to oil bath and it works awesome. If it wasnt good I would say so. Xisico and JTS are a reputable company Ive known them many years and hangin their booth at shot show, they will do the right thing. Good thingis I caught this early and only 10 compressors were delivered.

Travis, Great news they are going with the oil lube. BUT, again the wait. I have only been interested in this compressor since March of this year others have been anticipating it’s a rival this past fall. Can you share a best guess as to when the dealers will have them in hand ?

Has anyone been able to confirm the amazon one has the upgrades Travis had made to the Xisico ones?  This would be my reason to order from Wes at airgunarcheryfun.ca, not to mention Wes (and Trivas too) has been very helpful with pic's, videos, and staying on top of the grease/oil thing.

Travis with the new oil bath compressors how often will they need the oil changed?  Would it be easy to add an hour meter to it?

Just got an email back from Mike @ FDAR....
my question to him was regarding the xisico compressors he is getting in soon,
 question was....
will these be the oil lubricated type ?

his answer was...."no, have grease lube once every 50 hours"

so, whats up with that ?
maybe xisico has not notified all of there distributors yet about the change  ???

Jeesh ! Seems like there is always something wonky in the airgun game.

So, was the grease added for shipping purposes or were the compressors designed to run with grease? And if they were designed to run with grease, why the switch to oil? Who determined oil would be better?

Mike M has been testing one with grease and so far it's doing good.  I never asked him about the grease that's in them but he'd be a good person to find out from when he does start selling them.

Maybe that's why the manufacturer went with grease to begin with.  Are there any seals to keep the oil out of the gear reduction section?

Hi Guys,
Travis recommended the oil, and talked with JTS and they agreed oil would be best for longevity. JTS had switched to grease, probably to save maintenance issues for buyers, but Travis would know more about that.
Mike sorry to see you are having trouble. Hopefully Travis can help you out there.

As far as whether it's ok to continue with the grease it came with, the instructions I've received from Travis and Xisico is its fine to keep using as is with the grease it came with.
Xisico will continue to cover with warranty and if it fails then you can request a switch to oil if you wish, is my understanding.
Travis, feel free to comment or correct me.
Thanks,
Wes

The question is.... will Xisico warrant the compressor if it is converted to oil? Or even use different grease?

Heck, that brings even another question to the table.... who will honor the warranty? Will the consumer have to go through the process of returning the thing to China?
Title: Re: Xisico JTS GX-E-CS3 Compressor In Stock
Post by: WesBob on May 21, 2020, 05:10:07 PM
Headquarters are in Texas so no need to return to China. Travis is changing to oil on behalf of Xisico and at their authorization. Before switching to oil yourself, if you have a grease version from me or Mike, for warranty sake make sure to get it authorized by Xisico, through Mike or I, or directly speaking with Xisico.
There was 10 sold with grease, and Xisico has promised to take care of you guys.
The rest are going to be oil, so this will be no longer an issue once the new ones are sold.

I believe the manual supplied is the basically correct one, except I was told that the instructions to grease it every 50 hours is no longer necessary. The grease system does not need maintenance.

I'm sorry you regret the purchase. If switching it to oil would help you gain confidence in it, feel free to pm me and we can see about what can be done.

As far as the grease system itself, this is what the Nomad and Nomad II, plus the New Warrior uses. Canadashootingsupply.ca and I have had good success selling the The New Warrior Compressors and as long as you use them for guns only they seem to work wonderfully.
Regards,
Wes

about 95% of his tuning is springers, if not more..... ;)

Hey Travis can you give us an update ?
Waiting for more pump oil to get here, it should be on Wednesday. Its a slow process but I will have most of the pumps back to dealers by next weekend. This is a one man show.

So, was the grease added for shipping purposes or were the compressors designed to run with grease? And if they were designed to run with grease, why the switch to oil? Who determined oil would be better?

Hey Travis I know somebody else asked this question: what is the main benefit from going from grease to oil?

Also did the compressors that came with grease in them have the upgrades that you had made to the previous version of compressor?

Well, I think the main reason is it is a lot of compressors for one guy to do, and Travis wants to retire sometime 8), and I want to get my compressors as i have a lot of money tied up in them, and can't afford to wait too many weeks. Travis promised to make a video demonstrating what to do and then I found out my compressors weren't in California as I had thought, but still in Texas, so when Larry asked me about it I said yes, I'd do it.
I may be regretting that later! Sounds like a fair amount of labor involved. I have a very handy brother with engineering training, so I'm hoping to roping him into taking a few days to help me.  ;D

Travis doesn’t actually want to retire does he? ;). I would like to know the reasoning for oil vs grease.  Is it strictly a longevity thing where you can change the oil vs grease that is in there for the life of the machine?  Or does oil allow you to fill larger bottles over .5L without wearing them out?  Travis had posted some videos of the original oil bath ones stress testing them on scba tanks.  I'm curious if Travis got the same results with the stress tests on the new oil converted ones?

Thanks Wes and Travis for all the work and info

I would also like to know what was the deciding factor that oil would be better than grease. Was there a side by side comparison with definitive results that one is better than the other? If so, what were the testing parameters?.... fill times, temps, fill pressures and longevity to mention a few.
Title: Re: Xisico JTS GX-E-CS3 Compressor In Stock
Post by: Back_Roads on June 08, 2020, 08:19:14 AM
IMO an oilbath wil transfer more heat evenly, where grease is just that.
Title: Re: Xisico JTS GX-E-CS3 Compressor In Stock
Post by: avator on June 08, 2020, 08:30:41 AM
I've read responses that lend to the idea that grease is ok for short run direct gun fills and oil is better for longer fills such as small tanks.
IMO.... with the weight not being much different than scuba tank, I would prefer this compressor over a tank. Just bring it to the bench and fill the gun like I now do with my Vevor.... Advantage would be, no water and 12v option. After that it just becomes a matter of durability over the YH types.
Like I said before.... if and when my Vevor pukes, this might be my next compressor... hopefully my Vevor will last long enough to get some field time on the JTS.
BTW.... I don't need all the whistles and bells such as auto shut off... I never run my compressor unattended. Just the compressor and power supply will do for me.

But, what were those upgrades and why?  I don't think that question has ever been answered.  It's seems to have been side stepped a lot, but I've never seen a direct response as to what the recommendations were, what was changed and why?  Can we solve that mystery?

I would definitely have bought one for sure if I hadn't bought my F10, toting a tank rather than a compressor is handier in my opinion anyway.  Then you just never know I might eventually find a reason to buy one anyway some day ???

You may be right Wayne. I know Mike has been testing a couple units with the grease. I guess a torture test with one of each side by side would be an interesting test to do.
Hopefully Travis will chime in soon on what he feels makes the oil a lot better. As mentioned earlier by James Back_Roads, I would think the oil would do a better job of leeching heat away, which Travis mentioned is the great killer of all these pcp compressors.

Wes

Hi Bill,
Any from Travis will have the oil in it. Mine are on a truck and heading up here. I can ship dhl to you though from Canada so it would be decently quick. I'll check prices to make sure it's reasonable and would be possible for me to do with the flat rate I have on my site.

Hi Guys! Well, good news, Travis is busy changing oil on these now and if you guys want to have one drop shipped from him, or shipped DHL from me (arriving next Thursday here) you can check out on my website. Please choose the last shipping method option if you want it shipped courier from Travis(ups) or from me (DHL). It's $50 shipping for those methods, as I painfully discovered its costing minimum $75 DHL or UPS and more via ups to the east coast.
If you aren't in a rush, then I have the $25usd shipping option, that will come USPS priority international, as it's significantly cheaper to ship that method.
If you want it drop shipped choose the last method and put a note in the box at checkout saying please dropship.
Thanks,
Wes

Michael, does the run meter only meter when the compressor is pumping or when it’s turned on and the fans start running?  Where did you wire it to?

I tied into the 2 big red wires on the circuit board. Used a multimeter to find which was positive. It only run when the pump was switched on.

I saw this review on the amazon one, I know the JTS one is oil and has the updated parts that Travis suggested:

"liveasyouwill
1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted TWO MONTHS, then FAILED -ran with a timer/NEVER ran over 15minute
Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2020
Verified Purchase
This worked slowly, as expected, but GREAT, for only TWO MONTH, then slowly, it started filling bottle less and less. Now it won't even fill a PCP rifle tank to 3,000psi. I LOVED the AutoShutOff, but be watchful as the gauge is off. make your own markings so you know where 3,000 and 4,350, etc are, specifically! While it WORKED, that is.

Good luck and i suggest BUY ANOTHER BRAND. I spend a lot of money on this, never ran it over 4350psi, nor did i ever run longer than 15 minutes, wait a half hour before reuse. I never filled large bottles, the biggest i would ONLY top off from 3700 to 4,350 was a 68cubic inch Carbon Fill Station.

I thought I had FINALLY found a solution to my compressor dilemma. A portable, NOT SO LOUD, functional 4,500psi compressor for almost $620.00 after tax and protection plan. I am sad to see this little compressor quit on me. it was becoming a daily staple quickly."

Has Travis done any stress tests with the new JTS oil ones?  I know he cooked a few of the very first ones (old style housing and square buttons) while he was making suggestions on parts to upgrade.

The new ones are the same as the old ones as far as internalls go. The new ones have a better circuit board and better upgrades I recommended. So yes Ive torture tested the old and new ones. I wouldnt buy a grease version its likely hood of lasting as long as a oil bath are slim for many reasons. This is why I get hired to test things, to make sure they last. Buy only from recommended vendors and avoid those cheap units with no warranty or customer support on various sites.

Xisico's warranty is for a year!!!!  amazon and ebay do not!!!
you should buy from only reccomended vendors, they will have the parts you need even after the warranty ends

i just received my 2nd one,,, i tortured my first for over a year,, loved the ease of use and low filling heat
i found with some pre-moisture filters installed there is more stress on the compressor, especially if it had desicant
i never seen water vapor come out of the bleed hose, i started to ressurect the first but the original wiring became my demise, one wrong move and i managed to have too many wires pull off their connections, the new harness is a ribbon style and a whole lot sturdier

i was a small part in bringing them to market, we could have released it over a year and a half ago but instead we chose testing and more testing to ensure you would be happy with the unit

Its probably a simple fix but he might have no idea how...so they rant! Also atmospheric conditions play a role....plus manufacturing is based on humans putting parts together...I know for a fact that a bad mood day or a headache or a fight with your spouse affects how people put expensive quality parts together....so that's how you end up with a lemon every now and then.

I don't think that I'd buy one that didn't say Xisico on it, in my opinion Xisico is right up there with Snow Peak in their quality and workmanship.   I remember SPA saying they were going to release one that appeared promising but it never came to light.  I think it was a 3 stage compressor by the looks of it, it was in the 2018 shot show I think ???

I do agree it's been a real hassle all this switching back to oil, but Travis has been a huge part in making that happen and getting people the compressor that he tested and upgraded, so a big thanks to him!
He's also taking care of warranty issues and has been a big help and point of information for myself. There should be a video out from him soon as well posted on the forum for those getting these compressors on breaking them in and maintenance. For such a price I don't think you can do better, and have a professional taking care of things, despite the hiccups getting going.

Hey Wes, and all,

Got an email saying mine has shipped from California (at least label has been made). Either way it looks like I might be seeing it this week! Hope:)

Question is about the oil mentioned above. Travis, is this oil from them, or something you are putting in after you make the change overs? (Your own purchase?)
Also would be helpful if I knew what it was. Specifications, weight, viscosity, etc. , so I can pick up something same or close when I make it to the city.

Also many thanks for being so helpful Wes!  Lots of other companies could use some lessons from you. :) And thank you to you both for getting one out the door so quickly.

Can’t wait to hear it talk to me. Hehe

Best, James

Big thanks for all your help and time spent helping me on this Wes !

I do kinda feel let down by Travis tho. I figured he might throw in a bottle of Royal Purple. Ya know, like the hat or bar-b-que grill the auto dealers used to do when you bought a new pickup. Haha!

Looking forward to checking it out. :)

Hi Travis, not a problem in world from me. Sorry if you didn’t catch the humor in my statement. It’s hot here as well. :)

Thanks for getting the pump checked out and headed this way pronto!

I should know in a few days what I think of it. Supposed to arrive before weekend.  I’ll be saying either way.

Thanks again for all efforts and all (I read sometimes) :)

Best,
James

I honestly expect to see good reviews from members about the Xisico compressor myself, thanks to Travis who went beyond expected avenue's in getting Xisico to set the compressor up right.  From what I understand they have a good lower end in them too, I also like the fact they don't run so hot they have to be water cooled . . . . that is a big plus indeed.

What I have to say about Xisico products is they're top notch for their price, I'll be heading for the woods with my Xisico 702-3 that I recently purchased from HoosierDaddy, I did some mods yesterday to it and it's really slinging the lead really good, this one is going to be a pellet shooter even though it's very capable of shooting slugs as it is right now.  Going through this gun completely yet still confirms that Xisico is top notch in my opinion.

I am a little surprised to see that they are using regular compressor oil and not high pressure oil. I would have guessed they should used something like the Bauer oil.

Travis, did you compare the regular compressor oils to the high pressure ones for this unit?

Travis with the new oil bath compressors how often will they need the oil changed?  Would it be easy to add an hour meter to it?

These terminals on the control board are the coil connections of the relay that switches the power to the compressor motor. It is a convenient place to tap in for an hour meter. Top one is +12V when the motor is on, bottom is ground. A couple of quick disconnect terminals and you're in.

Putting the hour meter in is going to be a tight fit. I think a rectangular one might just fit next to the piston. I'm a little concerned about restricting airflow past the head.

This vibration activated hour meter seems like a good idea however, if you are going to be transporting your compressor with this hour meter attached it is going to be activated by the travel vibrations. There is no on off switch for the meter.

Well, that depends...  You transporting it in you truck, or strapped to the back of your Harley?  My truck rides way smoother than a running compressor!  That said, I can also say that I have not seen an increase on the hour count when I have transported it to the range in the past. I’ll have to pay closer attention next trip to be sure. But, I’m betting it takes a fair amount of vibration to activate it.

Good point!  I'll have to try it with and without the lock next time I transport it and see if it makes a difference.  Again, I don't think it get jostled enough riding in the truck to really register on the meter.  I don't transport the Recharge, just the smaller Spark.

Quick question for the experts about the CS3 from Airgun & Archery:

Will the CS3 leak oil if stored on it's side?

I just used the compressor to fill my avenger from 3000-4000 psi and just noticed there's oil under the floor.

I opened the top cover and saw oil splashed all over the place but don't know where it's coming from.

When I got the CS3, I tested with the dead head and then stored it on it's side until the avenger came.

Could there be a leak / problem or does it not hold oil on it's side?

Originally, it came with half a bottle of oil so I just checked the fill oil and made sure it was topped up to ~1/4 under the hole as shown on the video posted previously...

Thanks,
Rob

YES oil will leak out the crank vent DO NOT store on its side. Watch the video and adjust the oil level again if needed.

I refilled oil and then ran it in a small burst with dead head and it's spurting out of this orange plastic thing.

Hopefully the 2 refills (with probably little oil) did not hurt it...

Yep that orange rod is the Breather for the crank case to keep any pressure from building up in the crank case, just like the Yong heng compressors. You'll need to run it for awhile and let it clean itself out. Good idea to put a filter on the fill whip too.
Now you know never leave it on its side 😁

I will run it in short spurts with pressure release valve open until it clears...

You think the oil might get into the compressed output?

And I just put it in it's permanent upright position too... bummer...

Good idea to run it awhile or in spurts like you say. Travis says it won't hurt anything if a bit of oil gets on the high pressure side. It has a very high flash point so it won't blow up or anything.

About half the screws were stripped on mine. One could not be removed, it just sits and spins!  It’s as if they were installed with a power screwdriver and over tightened to the point the holes were stripped. Not sure if this was done at the factory or during the conversion to oil.

I need to get more oil, if a full bottle isn’t enough, then I definitely won’t have enough to even test it. Kinda disappointed in the whole experience at this point. You’d expect a new compressor to come with the correct amount of oil, adequate instructions and not have half the screws on the case already stripped!

I agree paul, it took a full bottle to get it 1/4" below the fill hole like directed in video.

Or maybe the wrong size tool stripped the screw heads.

So, I ran it on/off for a few hours last night.  It's still seeping out of the breather.  Here's question for Wes, Travis or any other owners with experience:

I put a tissue paper over the breather holes and there's a very strong air pushing in/out with each stroke.

Could this mean my piston rings are bad or is this common/acceptable?

Thanks,
Rob

As it needs to. As the piston moves up the volume of the crank case increases. When the piston moves down the crank case volume decreases pushing the air drawn in back out the breather. Now if it were a parallel twin with the pistons 180 degrees out from each other you wouldn't have that blowing out sucking in air movement just out if the rings weren't sealing correctly.

Ok.  At least it's not squirting out like before.  Will keep an eye on it.  I did notice oil coming out of the clear vent tube everytime I release the presssure valve now...  Hope that clears up overtime too...

I always get a little very dark (almost black) oil out of the bleed tube after each use. I don't expect that to ever change. This is true even after an oil change. Good thing is that I don't get any showing up on the small final filter. So I assume that the water / oil separater is doing a good job.

I got some synthetic HPA Compressor oil today and filled the crankcase to the recommended ¼" below the fill hole.  I also ran it through the set-up sequence and all went well.  I then topped off my AEA Backpacker (480cc CF Tank) to 3400 psi.  It took a little over 5 minutes to fill and the temp gauge read 100.2F.  For comparison, my Benjamin Recharge would have filled that air rifle in a little less than half the time and the temp would have been around 55C-60C (131F - 140F), so it does run cooler than the high speed, water cooled compressors.

Travis says 1.5oz is the right amount. If you put more in you'll find it starts bleeding oil out when you bleed the compressor. Those bottles are 2oz bottles. It's not half full but just under 2/3 or so. I measure mine with a little glass measuring cup.
I was being a little too generous and putting a bit more than 1.5 Oz in the first few I sent, but I learned on my compressor that the extra you put in is going to come out, so better to stick to the bosses orders 😁.

Any coming from Canada have had the outer shell removed and put on with an old fashioned screwdriver. 😊
I did have one screw strip., but that's it.
There is moisture catching beads in the inline filter. If your compressor shipped with oil in it, you may want to change out the beads.
You can buy a pack of 4 bags of blue moisture indicating beads from Amazon here: they turn pink when wet, and can be baked dry and reused.

I have been watching this compressor through its development, I am a happy shoe box owner, and have one of Wes Bobs Warrior compressors as a portable in my truck.
I consider this new design as a self contained shoe box, the one thing Shoe Box did not offer.
No it will not fill tanks, but weighs less than an aluminum scuba, and is easily portable.

A little off topic question, but are there any instructions as to how to pack the inline filter? I have a Hong Yeng look alike (another story) and it came with virtually no instructions. There is a pack of what looks like clothe packing material, but I'm just not sure how they are supposed to be installed. Seem like they will restrict airflow? Anyway, any help pointing me in the right direction appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Short answer: No!  There are instructions, but nothing that details any sort of maintenance or repair.  It does show where to add grease, but the one I got doesn't use the grease.  I had the cover off, but didn't see anything that resembled an inline filter and there's not one of the fill whip, so I'm also interested in hearing about that.  The only thing I saw that remotely resembled a filter was an aluminum tube on the intake that had a cotton tampon filter stuffed in it.

Mine is on the fill whip, but it came empty and I'm not sure what the correct process to fill it is  :o

If you are referring to the in-line filter that typically comes with the YH, it should have come with some cotton filters that slip right into it.  My Xisico did not come with any filter on the fill whip, which is why I'm curious to figure out where it is, if there is one.

These are what the YH in-line fill whip filter use:

My apologies guys, it's inside the compressor, not a separate filter. I'll have to show on a diagram, but I'm on our only family holiday this summer til Monday so it'll have to be later. 🙂

I posted this on Travis's "Xisico compressor video tutorials":

I just want to say that if you are in the fence about buying one of these compressors DO IT.

I received mine on July 22, from then till now (Aug 5) I filled my gauntlet 27 times.  Some things that I have learned while using this compressor is:
-When you order it get 1000-1500 pellets with it!  I shot a tin of 500 in 10 days, Wes has flat rate shipping so add a few tins to your order.
-When bleeding it: if you bleed it really slow like just barely crack the bleed valve, it may bleed your bottle as well.  I first noticed this when I had an inline filter and 36" extension line attached.  I then tried it with just the factory whip and notice that I would still drain the bottle if I bled it too slow.  I've noticed that if you bleed the first bit quicker then slow it down it won’t bleed the tank.
-Order a vibration hour meter.  I didn’t know these existed until a guy posted on here.  The one I got has a sensitivity setting of HI or LOW, it needs to be set on HI for it to register on the hour meter.  The fan running will not rack up hours only the shake from the compressor.

Thanks Travis and Wes

Just an update on the vibration hour meter.  It appears that it will only record run times of 1/10H (6 minutes) or longer.  When I tested it for 6 minutes it displays 0.1.  I have had 5 fills on my gun (3-4 minutes per fill) with it not recording the time (still showing 0.1).  Looking for a wired one that will record short run times.

I wondered whether the digital ones would do that. I haven't put one on mine yet but I'm leaning toward a mechanical one. I can't post external links. If you search "AIMILAR DC 6-80V Mechanical Hour Meter" on amazon, that's the one I'm thinking of.

I suspect what it does is:

Run 0:01-5:59 -> record 0.0
Run 6:00-11:59 -> record 0.1
Run 12:00-17:59 -> record 0.2

Yes the compressor motor will run if I connect 12v directly to the motor harness it runs. Connect all the wires like they are supposed to be. Only the fans run when blue breaker switch is flipped on still no power lights come on for the start and stop switch. And pushing the start button does nothing.

No not at all. I'm using the same 12v power supply that came with the compressor. Just disconnecting the main compressor wiring and than connecting the 12v jumper wires to the compressor electric motor harness.

Ok, pardon my ignorance but..
If you hook the compressor up to a 12v power supply such as a car battery it runs fine but, if you use the 110v power convertor it don't work?

Hi avator
I have not tried hooking it to a car battery to run it. I've only used it plugged to the inverter and household current.
When it gets a little daylight I'll give a car battery hook up a whirl. I expect the hooking to the car the fans will run but not the compressor. Will keep my fingers crossed avator.

Sounds like something went bad somewhere on the main circuit board.  If you are by-passing the circuit board and applying 12v direct to the compressor motor and it runs, then something on the main circuit board is not switching as it should to allow power to the motor.  Are there any fuses on that circuit board?  Could it be the blue switch?  Have you trying jumping that switch to see if the lights on the on/off buttons light up?  You may have to send it back to have it repaired, or have Xisico send a new circuit board or switch if you feel comfortable swapping them out.  Personally, I'd send it back for a replacement.

No fuses on circuit board. Lol had circuit board problems with my first compressor. Compressor was working fine pumped a gun up. 5 hrs later nothing. I thought ground problems of some kind. Checking our blue switch and all wires attached. Haven't jumped the switchs to see if the light come on.

Agreed... hooking it to the car battery narrowed the issue to the compressor itself and not the power supply.

Hi, I am new here so have pity, I did read the entire thread. I have a new Hatsan Bullpup .25, and I ordered an oil filled compressor from Air Tanks Plus in Sacramento. Is that store owned by one of the sponsors here?

I have some new questions.

1: Hard carry case? What works well for upright transport without being too large? What are the minimum dimensions of the pump and power supply, placed next to each other? An 8 gallon Action Packer is 11x14x10” tall inside. I already use one for my Caldwell Rock BR, so a second one would nicely coordinate.😀 but it is probably needlessly spacious.

2: What is the amp rating for the 12 volt cables, and is there an easily accessible fuse in the power supply or positive cable? What gauge are the cables?

3: Do the two power posts on the inverter/ power supply simply unscrew from the outside (no nuts inside)? I would like to add a couple of heavy terminals underneath the posts, with short pigtail cables (or ideally delete the posts entirely) and add a high quality 30 amp Anderson Powerpole connector. I would cut and modify the factory cable so I can just plug the mating Powerpole into the inverter pigtail (no clips) or plug the gator clips in to use from my truck battery. It would be a much cleaner and classier looking setup than clamping those clips on all the time.... The Powerpole pins do require a special crimp tool. I have been using these for many years and they are great.

Somebody asked this but I never saw a reply.

4: can I use my small Air Venturi inline moisture/ debris filter without restricting airflow? If not, what is a good larger unit? I will only be filling my gun’s tank.

I can’t wait to put away my hand pump! Thanks for your comments.

I got my new compressor yesterday, it arrived in fine shape, no damage whatsoever. I serviced it with oil, broke it in and then filled my Hatsan BullBoss .25 tank several times. Then I tried to adjust down (lower) the pressure safety valve to around 3500 psi from the higher factory setting. I struggled with it for a while with no success. BTW the video is WRONG about using needle nose pliers to turn the screw - you should use an Allen wrench in the center. The outer holes are air vents.

I finally took it apart and found that it was completely rusted and frozen. See pics. I have contacted the seller, not Hatsan USA yet, I will see what develops and start a new thread about this safety issue. If you have one of these units, look at your belleville washers ASAP so you don't get hurt. This should be a product recall.

That is ugly but not a safety concern the unit wouldn’t explode if the discs failed it would be the opposite it wouldn’t reach pressure that said I would reach out to your distributor for a replacement unit and have them inspect it before shipping. Thank you for sharing I’ll forward this to the Manufacturer this isn’t acceptable.
Title: Re: Xisico JTS GX-E-CS3 Compressor In Stock
Post by: John E Davies on October 15, 2020, 05:02:51 PM
I disagree that it isn’t a safety issue ... it is the primary backup for the gauge - if that fails or you somehow move the needle too high, the safety valve will vent before your bottle over-pressures. I wanted to set it at 10% over my bottle max pressure, which is 2900 psi. What pressure does the disc rupture - 4500? That  is way too high with a frozen/ disfunctional safety valve.

Anyway, I emailed the vendor and will see what he does, I sure don’t need a new pump, just the valve.

Its the only incident of its kind to date so far. As far as recals go there are industry standards to go by.Once a failure mechanism, and possibly the
root cause, has been established for a product,
it is important to determine if this is an isolated incident involving a single product or
whether there is evidence of a “pattern of
defect.” A strict definition of a “pattern of
defect” is not provided by the client. Therefore, the existence of a “pattern of defect”
depends on the specific circumstances associated with a given product investigation.
Review existing databases including listings
of product returns, customer complaints and
reported incidents should be conducted, preferably on an ongoing basis, in order to help
determine the number of failures of a specific product and compare this information
with historical data. Is this the first product
to come back or is this the 12th product in
the past three weeks to be reported? If there
is a spike in the number of field returns, the
next question is whether the failures are similar in nature. This requires a detailed examination of additional incident products. If
additional incident products are not available to examine, it is beneficial to review all
available photographs and reports associated
with these incidents.
If a “pattern of defect” is established after
a review of the failed products, it is necessary to determine how large of a population
of product is affected. Some of the important questions to consider in this determination include:
• Is this an inherent design problem? For
example, is the problem tied to the materials of construction? Is the problem with
a defective component? Is this component single-sourced or multiple-sourced?
If the problem is with only one component supplier, is there an easy way to separate out the unaffected population?
• Is this a batch problem tied to a manufacturing process deviation or temporary process change implemented based
on other constraints?
• Is this a problem only with certain models of product? For example, are there
differences in product construction that
determine if the product is susceptible to
a specific failure mode or unsafe condition? Can this be verified empirically?
• Are there geographical considerations that
make it possible to rule out certain populations of product? For example, are products much more likely to overheat and
cause fires in certain countries based on
standard power outlet voltages (e.g., United
States 115 volts, Europe 230 volts)?
What Is the Risk and Severity

We've had very few returns. Of what we've had there has been a couple with problems filling up to 4500psi and filling slowly. Once Travis digs into those and finds if there is a common issue hopefully an easy solution will be found. I've been running one as my main compressor since this spring and it's still going strong, but I feel for the few that have had trouble and am curious to see what the solution ends up being. I'll take a look in my compressor safety valve. I haven't had any reports of this rust problem. And I've had a few take that safety valve apart.
