Title: Jsar update
Post by: JSAirRifles on March 06, 2020, 09:51:29 PM
Hi all,
Just an update on things. It's been a rough couple months, but everything is headed back the right direction. If you've asked for a refund, it's processing. We have at least three different payment gateways and they're all a bit different. I've definitely fumbled a few, and I apologize.
For everybody with a gun on pre order, we started filling orders again this week, and I hope to be caught up in th and next 2-3 weeks. I'm very grateful for everybody's patience and support while we get this operation up to speed.
Thank you,
Jacob

I don't have a dog in the fight (or show, contest, venue, et cetera) so I'll just chime in that it is great seeing an owner speak up and say, "Hey, we ran into a couple bumps but things are moving again."

I worked for a smaller software company and we've had to say that.  Part of the business no matter what the business is, so thanks from somebody who appreciates what you said even if he doesn't even benefit.

Lotta money tied up in all that beautiful new machinery that JSAR had to invest in, I remember seeing a youtube video of the beautiful new CNC.

Jacob, Randall here! I stand by you and your wonderful company! You guys have been very good to me with your Raptor’s and communication. Hang in there as things will only get better! I understand the situation of a new company and realize how hard it can be as I helped a friend start one up from the ground floor! You and your employees are doing a heck of a job as many unseen complications will always arise! The Raptors are an amazing PCP, keep up the fantastic work 👍.

I agree here, Jacob it is good to see you speak for yourself. I myself don't expect you to be on the forum every day all day because you have a business to run and orders to fill and most important you have a family to be with. To me some interaction with customers on the forum is important but what is more valued is sending those order in a timely manner providing supplies are available. It would also be nice to see some of your backordered parts come off that list as I know people really want to buy them and they feel you have abandoned those parts.

Great to see the post Jacob! You have the support of quite a few of us and even though there's some naysayers I posted a thing about supporting the small business guys and seemed to shut them up! I'm all for you guys and what you do!

I'm the same as Peter; I have no dog in the fight, but from reading all these threads, it seems pretty obvious that all the ado and negativities would have been avoided with simple email communications from the owner to the clienteles. Common business sense really: you hold a good chunk of someone's money, then you better produce results or keep them updated on the current status.
Good luck to Jacob/JSAR and all the prebuyers!

Thanks for the update Jacob. I am looking forward to getting the Hawk in the next couple of weeks. It helps me to be patient with a little communication from you. I work for a small company and can empathize with being overloaded with work and having trouble keeping up—and the frustration of supply chain delays. On the bright side you definitely have solid products that people want and can be a great part of this community for hopefully years to come.

Even in the time of trial, I have always been able to contact both Jacob and Travis.  They have both been very helpful and spent the time needed to answer my questions.  They both have called back every voice mail I ever left and I look forward to getting my "upgraded" Raptor back soon.

Jacob, thanks for the update!  No doubt a rough start with many things out of your control.  I don't have a dog in the hunt just yet, but I am watching and waiting for the right timing for a new gun.  I'm too old to pre-order, lol.  I know to much.

One thing for sure, some of these air gunners won't let you slip too far before they lash out.  I guess that's a good thing overall, but not so pleasant to run across when on the forums.  I'm sure you'll shut them up the first chance you actually get.

Jacob, thank you for the update. It is a good thing for you to continue communicating with the air gun community. I would also like to personally let you know there are a whole bunch of us airgunners who would like to purchase some of the aftermarket products you made for the marauder platform. Maybe when the Raptor fire gets under control you can shift some of your focus to get those aftermarket parts available once again. I personally would like to try out a 2nd gen SS valve and maybe even a light weight tube. Thanks for all you are doing and keep up the good work and also thank you for keeping the community in the loop.

Jacob, I have not received my adjustable regulator, and am in need of other parts. I've been trying for months. I've sent emails to every address on your site. Talked to Travis on the phone, in January. He asked me to wait till February to send in a parts request. I've heard nothing back? The first thing I had to do to my 30 cal Raptor, when I received it, was to rebuild/redesign the original trigger group. Original had way too much slop etc. Later JSAR came out with an improved trigger group. I'd like one of those too. The striker bolt on my rifle was the original version, and if/when turned in too far, will hammer up the valve face, causing the valve to stick open. I've since repaired the valve face, and valve end, and added spacers to the striker bolt, to keep it from extending past the face of the hammer. I'd like a complete new valve assembly. I also had a pellet get turned sideways somehow, and chipped up the plastic "star" wheel of the magazine. Could use one of those too. I was supposed to get an adjustable reg for free, and will pay for anything else, not included in the original purchase price. Pay Pal invoice? ::)

I was very excited. I was looking forward to my fiance and I having matching guns and doing a super thorough review. Unfortunately, the way JSAR has communicated (or lack thereof) has made it impossible for me to feel the least bit okay spending close to $3k on their products.

I'm not impressed either wish I'd have spent money elsewhere still waiting on a mag and regulator. I've sent  PM's texts and emails to no response so I'm a bit put off for sure. Sad to see this I had high hopes.

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that. I feel really bad for the people who already have their guns and now have a sour taste in their mouths.

What type of hammer are you using with the aluminum tube? I recently heard that Jacob told someone they could run a light weight aluminum hammer. This would be great since I prefer them over the MDS ones.

Rocker1 40 gram MDS. At the moment, I am getting 60 shots at 25 fpe with JSB 18.1 with less than 3% ES. I have installed the TSS but not Chronied it yet. I believe that will be even better.

Not so sure I would run aluminum on aluminum.... but an MDS hammer works great in an aluminum tube....

Glad hear JSAR is getting caught and accepting preorders.  As a potential new customer, what is current estimated delivery time once an order is placed and payment is paid?  Also, are there models/combinations that will be delivered sooner than other, for example a black rifle vs a color coated one?

Since the JSAR Gate is still down, thought I'd ask a question I've been chewing on for a while. Jefferson State rang a bell, and then it occurred to me that Jefferson State or the State of Jefferson is the proposed name of the 51st State of the United States by a group of Californians who want to split the state into two.  Is this what the JSAR business is named for? Are you folks part of that group of rural Californians who desire to chop the state into two parts? Just Curious...

I was really looking forward to a SS G2 valve. I bought a used gen 1 valve after reading they could retrofit, and then found out they can't. I keep waiting and waiting for valve to show up on the sight, and they could sell a ton of the TSS but never in stock. I realize the WooHan is screwing up everything now, but personally I have about given up hope or desire to get any. I had a small business for almost 15 years, so I understand the trials and tribulations but you have to find a way to solve them. The most important thing I learned is don't say you will/ can do something untill your 150% sure you can.

Come on JSAR, I know there are problems, and you are as busy as you can probably be, but take a break for a few, and let "us" know how things are going. Are you still manufacturing, and shipping? Ran out of parts? Nobody to work? Silence is not good for any business. 8)

I know the whole Covid thing is making a mess of things but I would assume the order numbers are sequential and it would take 5 min to send out a weekly email blast to list the current order in queue and how many guns are shipping each week just to give those of us waiting an idea. It is a quick and easy communication and keeps your customers updated and probably eases the minds of some that are stewing over it and would limit the calls and emails coming in for updates. I am not upset just anticipating my order, which was supposed to be 12 weeks and is now more than double that.   Just my $.02  :)

I really want to give a small company the benefit of the doubt, but enough is enough. I’ve been kind for long enough with this company and now I am going public. I feel like I have been scammed and strung along for too long. Here’s my story:

Sept 9 – place order for .257 Raptor.

Wait 5 months for nothing. Zero communication. No updates, just lame posts with we’re working on it and more and more delays. Sorry guys – don’t say a product has a 6 week pre-order wait when you know your full of s**t.

Contact JSAR in Feb to cancel order. Was told order was cancelled and I would be refunded.

Weekly emails between myself and Jacob with excuse after excuse. First it was oh I thought it went through, then I’m working on it, then oh I thought that was resolved, and then I think I found out that your order was so old our system can’t refund you, to I can send you a PayPal or a check. I chose the check over a month ago – it’ll be in the mail, more weekly emails, oh I thought that was resolved, let me look back into it.

I am trying to be polite through this process and give people the benefit of the doubt during COVID, but I had requested my refund well before social isolation and work shutdowns went into effect.

This wouldn’t be the first time ordering from JSAR and getting the run around. I ordered a machined Prod barrel and it was well over 3 months before I got that, and the transfer ports didn’t line up perfectly.

I am sorry if the company is having financial problems, which seems to be likely, but they still owe me $1600 for products not delivered. I hate to have to file a claim with my CC against JSAR, but it appears that will be the next step.

@ctshooter, from your description you have been more than patient. The lack of, or miscommunications is unacceptable. Good luck. The JSAR Raptor project has had incredible goodwill from owners and potential buyers. It would be a pity/tragedy to squander that. The amount of patience a lot of you have shown this company is laudable.

I know for a fact they weren't being built and shipped in the order the orders were received.  There's a member here who ordered the same day I did, his order number was one behind mine.  I received my Raptor (after almost 23 week wait) and a month later he was still waiting.  I actually have no idea if he ever received his.  Based on what I have seen here and other forums, it seems the big names (the YouTube Reviewers/Potential Vendors) got theirs, then the heavy hitters here on GTA and other forums, followed by those of us who were the relentless squeaky wheel.  I can almost understand getting them into the hands of those who will promote them the most...  Was that fair?  Not really, that appears to be what happened.  I have sold mine and moved on.  It wasn't what I was expecting or hoping it would be.  There was also that little voice in the back of my head who kept telling my it might become an orphan and there wouldn't be any after the sale support.  I hope this isn't the case for the rest of you, but then again, I have been told my risk tolerance is quite low!  I sincerely hope all who ordered get theirs quickly!

I am not trying to take up for JSAR.  There is really no excuse to not update paying customers of any delays, but I personally have noticed that machinist don't make the best PR people.  They just want to do what they do best, and that's not dealing with the general public.  It's a clear pattern that has stood out from many machinist for me.  It would be safe to say machinist are a special breed and are always in high demand.  Not the best mix, so we have to deal with this when seeking their talents.

My guess is, if Jason is not dying or dead, he's probably working long hours skipping meals and family life to try and get caught up with orders by himself since two of the key players have left right after all of the preorders arrived for the Raptor.  I wouldn't wish that pinch on anyone, especially with the C-19 shutting down many supply chains, too.

If Jason reads this...Press on man...You can please many once things straightened out and you finally get caught up, but you will never-ever please them all.

I don't blame anyone for being upset with a order in, I personally have backed off from thoughts of ordering a Raptor HP until I see something to get excited about from JSAR again.  The last thing I want is no communications on a delayed order.  I'm too tight with my coins for such a thing.  I do appreciate all of the pioneers that have helped my decision to look elsewhere for now.  Maybe one day if...

Sean (ctshooter), please give us an update on your issue with JSAR. It's been over 8 months since you placed your order (and paid in full). Assuming issue is still unresolved, why hesitate to file a dispute with your credit card company? Has JSAR responded since you posted? Covid19 or no Covid19, absolutely no reason for JSAR not to communicate. Good luck. Now, expect the excuses for JSAR to start.

BTW ... Owner of Rogue Energies that operates the JSAR manufacturing segment is JACOB E.  He IS NOT active in the day to day manufacturing or assembly of the RAPTOR air rifles.
Last contact I had the manufacturing / assembly crew was that of just 2 individuals being the machinists doing double duty.   With Travis leaving and myself no longer there either it is no wonder things have gotten even tighter and more difficult to get product out the door.
I wish them all the best and hope as many have for some time they can get over the hump and become a reliable & consistent airgun manufacturing business.

If extra hands are not available locally during this time, they could just as easily find talent anywhere in the US to ship the parts to for final assembly and tuning. They could probably even find the talent from this board. If there are legal and employment concerns, they could stay within state,  where they are familiar with laws, and etc.

I emailed JSAR a week or two ago re: general question on delivery date. It was answered in a couple days.  But, I'd be be very nervous about ordering a Raptor at this point after reading some of the posts.  If there are only 2 other people "holding the fort" things can't be good. If it's anything like where I just left, 5 people down to 2, all I can say is " I hope things improve for them."  I have the Raptor on my top three choice list and would order one tomorrow if I thought it'd be done in 12 weeks.  Considering the current climate of all things in the US, I guess I'll be waiting a long while to see how things shake out.

It would be really nice if Jacob would post more frequent updates vs the 7-8 (or more) week updates. Customer confidence has been known to make or break many a business.

Sure is quiet when it comes to JSAR activity. My Raptor is shooting great, very comparable to my Impact, but it also shoots slugs straight :)

Apparently, JSAR experienced the perfect storm on upstart with C-19 adding to that. I believe the business management requirements exceeded expectations and resources were not available to cover the need. I can't imagine any profitability in the business and believe it was most likely floated for most of its existence.

So, now they are down to a skeleton crew making due. Hopefully they can recover and resume. Best of the best to you Jacob and team.

This situation is the demand pull that created venture capitalism.  I can see the Shark Tank segment now:  excellent product, loyal, hopeful, patient customers, BUT...supply chain issues, production bottle necks, employee turnover, customer-service issues etc, all holding up product output and the creation of certain wealth.  It screams for assistance from someone who has experience in start-ups in niche industries.  Because it appears that from watching this with perspective over the last couple of years that you have great products but need to rethink your business model from the ground up.  Basically, a new startup.  Needs an industrial production Gordon Ramsey-like visit, from Mark Cuban!

It has been sad to have watched you go from enthusiastic product introduction to watching your name and company be besmirched on this forum.  I feel for you, but most of it is earned.  Still, you reached for the American Dream, and you deserve better.  Guys, someone is out there who can assist you to become rich beyond your wildest dreams.  Ask for help, because it appears you are in over your heads.  Yeah, you are going to have to split the pie in more pieces to achieve critical mass and the economies of scale, but isn't a little less now worth it for business stability in the future?  Your window of opportunity to rescue the situation in time for your customer base not to leave you is growing ever smaller. You are the mad scientists who should be back in the Skunk Works, not administrating sales management, finance, customer service or materials management.  Let others with experience do that.

Either that, or accept the first reasonable offer given you and sell the company and its products to someone with venture capital and the background and experience to straighten things out.

I have hope.
I wish the best.
If I had the cash I would buy today.
Time to dump something else to make room in the safe. I already have 4 air rifles.
Then maybe. . .

Very happy to hear that they are still working on guns, been waiting since Oct for guns and was getting worried when I did not hear any updates. I sure hope things go in the right direction for them! I very much look forward to getting to shoot them hopefully soon.

Nope ... My tenure there ended after the first week of the covid 19 statewide shutdowns @ mid March.   Travis announced his retirement shortly there after leaving no one in the assembly / service shop but the 2 machinists doing double duty & owner to do the required work.

Yikes... no wonder the slowdown.
I wish them well. That Raptor is too tactical for me. I like more traditional guns.

Did you say you ordered yours in October and you're just getting them now? I ordered mine Jan. 9th so I guess I won't get it until September then. Let us all know when you get them. Thanks for the update.

After 8 long months they have arrived. 1. HP .257 yesterday and one more today along with the HP .357, this is a good day. Now comes the fun part, test and tune. I have a good amount of tuning experience but have never worked with the balance valve so I am sure there is a learning curve. Initial tests on the .257 that showed up yesterday were a little less than exciting with a max output of 860 with a 65gn, nowhere near what Travis showed on his video(960), hopefully we can get closer to the video numbers. There are some very bright folks on here with a ton experience so I am sure with some help from the village I can get these shooting well. Thanks to Jacob and the guys at JSAR and Travis, these look great!

Both those calibers are on the outer limits to get really high power from IMO.   The regulators will need to be adjusted to 3K or better to do it.
We'll help where we can .... Do have fun with your new shooters !!

Is it crazy and inefficient trying to make one design, the cover all calibers airgun?

Just add a single .005" shim and that should do it.

what ever happened to the air compressors Travis was pushing that were to be sold via JSAR?

You didn't ask me but I think I have an answer since I recently purchased this model compressor Xisico-CS3 Compressor and I believe it is the one you refer to.

Sold through.

Video for that compressor made by Travis.

I got mine yesterday. Ordered it in January. There were some issues with what I got vs what I bought (not talking about magazines). Sent them an email. No reply yet and their phone is still straight to voicemail.

Anybody know how to get a hold of them?

I'm glad to hear that they are still shipping. If you have any issues or concerns with your Raptor you should post them in a new
thread and I am sure that some one will help you.
