1377 - Phase 2

I picked up a rear cocking 1377 that I thought was going to be parts - rusty crusty parts... Well I put a flashlight in the breech and inspected the bore, dirty but I can see rifling. Turns out this was abused but not used much - at least that's my guess. I didn't even oil the pump, just dug out the chrony to see what I've got - see the numbers below:
7.1 gr Crosman Domed pellets (the ones they had on sale "buy 2 get 2"), 5-shot strings with the pumps listed - average FPS with the China Chrony:
2 - 232.1
4 - 333.2
6 - 383.1
8 - 409.0
10 - 448.5
I suspect the bolt o-ring needs attention and the breech cover is loose. The valves feel tight and the compression is there.
I'm inclined to scrap my first unit with the shot-out barrel and re-furb this one and keep it vintage. Pics later - gotta run

Nice pick-up.
Side note, what do the phases denote for differences?

Production years are broken down by phases (apparently)
1977 - 1981 = Phase 1 - Rear cocker - steel breech, 1 piece pistol grip
1981 - 1998 = Phase 2 - Rear cocker - plastic breech
Not sure of the differences between 3 & 4...
1998 - 2011 = Phase 3 - bolt action
2012 - Present = Phase 4
Pics as promised

Do you know what the original fps are supposed to be on these vintage models?

I do not - I wasn't even aware of the rear cocking until I started snooping around here...
Hopefully someone will have some info...

I found and old ad - says:
177 535 with BB, 495 with pellet
22 385
This appears to be a Phase 1 with 1-pc grip

Wow for some reason I expected the old guns to be more powerful, I noticed the transfer port looked slightly larger in my old gun when I took it apart.
May have to remove the valve and see whats up.
On a positive note it looks like your gun is right in there where it should be.

Yeah - pretty happy considering I was expecting a pile of rusted junk. I'll use my first one as parts and clean this one up nice, keep it vintage.
And now I've got 3 tubes I can play with - One is getting an FTP kit and full treatment. The other 2 I'll work on as foundations for future rebuilds or something. 2 brass valves, trigger groups and misc parts will give me lots of options.
I found pics of packaging that listed 600 fps on later bolt gun models. It's probably just advertising - who actually checks for accuracy on that stuff? Aside from the bunch of us hanging around here that is...
