Mosquitoes Damper Hunt
JimH:
I just came in from a squirrel hunt...mostly turned into a hike in the woods. I couldn't stop for 2 seconds without my face and hands being swarmed with mosquitoes. This is dry land too. The same thing happened to my wife and I on a hike last weekend. Both times it's been dry and very windy. I've noticed an unusually high number of the little buggers in the past couple of weeks. It really puts a damper on any sort of outdoor activity. I'm in Central NY and I'm wondering if there's some strange bloom of mosquitoes happening. Bottom line, no nutters. I may consider waiting another month or until a cold snap before planning any more outings. It's much more comfortable shooting from my 2nd floor bathroom. More productive too. :-\

I 've noticed the same thing Jim. I 'm in Southern NY about an hour north of NYC. Too many dang mosquitoes. Nothing wrong with the 2nd floor bthrm window. It's one of my favorite spots to shoot from! ;D
Actually I thought a windy day is good. Mosquitoes usually get blown away or hide when it's windy out. It's not that good for squirrel hunting though or for straight-flying pellets. They tend to stay out less because they think a storm is coming.

I wear full camo for hunting coyotes including a facemask. I still had to put on some 100% DEET near my eyes to keep them from flooding in. I was hunting near a swamp though; just thousands of mosquitos!
JimH:
next time I go out I will wear my net.

The bad thing is when they are so thick the air hums! I've had that happen a couple of times in my life! Even in Kansas!
