Light scopes stay put better on magnum springers

All these years, I've been fitting relatively large scopes on my springers, to try to get the best accuracy out of them.
I notice there's a group of you who like 2-7x32 scopes, rather than 3-9x40 and up.
Do you find that they tend to stay in place better on magnum springers than the bigger scopes, or is it just a matter of getting a stout enough mount?
I'll be interested to hear/see your experiences in bar graph format.

Inertia plays a major part here. In my experience it seems to be the second recoil that moves the scope, not the one you feel. I've even had to fight scope movement with low powered guns. I don't think it's so much scope movement as it is the heavier scope trying to stay in place while the gun moves forward.

Given the same mounts...yeah, inertia wins.

At least with my Weihrauchs the Sportsmatch UK mounts properly installed with recoil pin and torqued properly they don't move. No loctite required with well machined parts and proper torque. Scope life depends on the scope itself and if it's mounted close to optical center. For real serious magnum springers (>20 fpe) a Sportsmatch Dampa mount is a great idea. I had a Airmax scope mounted on one for my Rx1. Never any problem with it, and that's a known scope eater.

Check out some of my posts on the new FWB Sport to see what a difference going light on both the scope and the mount makes in solving the issue of scopes not staying put on hard kicking springers.
I had been running a heavy one-piece Sportsmatch mount designed specifically for the Sport with a couple of large, heavy scopes and no amount of torquing or loc-tite and the other usual fixes could keep the scope and mount from sliding back off the rail. Had me wondering if the only way I could ever shoot this gun was without a scope.
Finally switched to the lighter two pice Sportsmatch mount and the much lighter Leupold Freedom 3-9 EFR for a scope. Even added an old 3/8" to weaver adapter to the rear of the back ring to add as a scope stop. Problem solved, 100%. Over six shooting sessions with no movement of loosening of the mount.

My cheapo Winchester 1100 is a scope eater. It has literally bucked two variable power scopes off the rail. At one point the scope stop screw snapped off from the pounding!
It now wears a suitably cheap Umarex/Ruger braided 4X scope that came off my RIM. The Ruger scope weighs about 2/3 of the Hammers 3-9X32 weight.

I voted yes, because it’s a true statement. But I’m with Bayman, with a proper sturdy mount & hardware, this too can be done. Because I like Big Scopes and I cannot Lie… sorry, couldn’t help myself!

A big scope on a 54 is almost like leaning into the punch.

It seems to me that sufficient for purpose is the way to go; a reasonable one piece mount with a decent stop pin. Usually bigger than that supolied, a layer of double sided tape to bed the scope on and the ring screws very firm but not too tight .

I had a big scope on a Diana 56 TH and you're right about that. I went to a smaller scope, and that was better. I stopped short of getting a dampa mount on it, as I was spending SO much money on scopes and mounts for that gun, I just decided to move it along and shoot PCP for that kind of shooting.
Later, I got a Diana 52, which I was happier with, despite it not having the fancy howitzer mechanism.

Because of the tube-type construction of most springers, groove mounting make sense. Looks right, simple to make for a tube...but are grooves, which is what normal people use when they want to slide something.
“Ugly” Weaver/Pic. mount can be attached, but a separate piece to a springer tube...unless it’s SERIOUSLY attached, are just adding another point of failure. Some springers seem to actually "glue" the rail to the tube (and no one should really trust glue).
One piece groove-clamp mounts do have a lot more clamp area. Solid, they are a one-point failure system, a pair or separate rings would be a two point failure system.
Same logic would have a wider rings having more tube contact area than skinny/stylish rings.
------
Think we’re treating the effects rather than the cause; it's like debating bandages rather than what made the cut. It’s the rifle that generates the moment, it’s the scope mount that we have to get to hold on. Mostly, it’s the abruptness of the “stops” in the rifle’s moment.
Can usually guess after firing a springer how much of a PIA it’s going to be about scope/mount movement.
One "recoiless" left that can fool you. RWS 54type is not a light weight, but it isolates the moment from the shooter. Feels smooth, bur really isn’t. The scope has a different opinion, it’s riding ½ the weight on top of an abruptly moving /stopping part.
------------
Going way back in time...between the wife and me….were running an HW 35E, FWB 124D, and a BSF 55N. Really not much difference in velocity/energy.
All were grooved receivers, same basic power, but keeping a scope in place and alive on the BSF 55 was a PIA (likely because it was the lightest rifle). Next up was the HW 35 (likely that massive longer stroke piston at work). FWB 124 was not nearly as bad (likely because it was just all around less violent feeling when shot).
