I left it alone so all those other folks could enjoy interacting with the highly intelligent, very witty, and extremely charming individual hired for that job.
A longtime friend in Louisiana is rather eccentric = he uses only cash. That's right! NO cards - credit or debit.I am just wondering what would happen if a person can't prove age. Eg. If I said that I no longer drive, so, no drivers license! [And at my age, they would not question that statement.]
The ID check is a liability issue. Many retailers have set up the registers to let the checker know that he/she has scanned something that has a minimum age requirement. It will lock the register until proper age is determined. Checkers are instructed to at least ask if you are 18, 21, etc. Most systems will let the checker simply override the lock, while others, like Walmart for liquor, require a date to be inserted. Here's something to think about if you are buying liquor thru the self check at Walmart, using a credit/debit card. The machine will lock and require an employee to punch in a birthdate. You can't just give any date that says you're over 21. It has to be the birthday that is associated with the card you're using. Talk about Big Brother. What other information do the have about you, when you use a credit card?

This is the most "old guy" thread I've ever run across If you didn't know Dick's stopped being so involved in firearms, you don't shop there enough for the manager to notice your absence. Don't be mad at "PC" people because guns are becoming less popular items. If gun sales are lagging to the point that a vendor won't carry them anymore, it's just not profitable for the vendor to carry the guns, plain and simple. Thank capitalism for this change, if you don't like it, get everyone you know to buy guns. Unfortunately for people like us that enjoy shooting, guns have just been getting less and less popular since the data was being collected in the 70's. Future generations will buy even less and less guns, and eventually air rifles, cartridge guns, and everything will be in the same status as muzzle loaders are now. Just like cars are becoming less and less popular despite living in a golden age for auto enthusiasts. This is probably another golden age for us air gun enthusiasts as well, and eventually this peak will end and sales will contract. I don't even like going into stores, and that was pre-pandemic. While self checkout steals a job from another person, that job clearly does not need to exist. Cashiers need to get better jobs and stop slaving away to an obsolete profession for employers that don't care. This thread gave me a needed laugh!
