Backup Guns

Long story short, the need for a backup gun has been driven by personal experience at the Nevada match, and by another shooter's experience at the OR match.
My question (no doubt the first of many...) is, do folks like an exact "copy" of their primary gun, or a different gun that has the same capabilities? Scopes too?
I never wnat to go thru that ever again

I learned my lesson the hard way.
Since I shoot a springer (TX200), I only need to bring parts that are prone to breaking. Springs (shoot and break in your extra spring beforehand), spring guide, breech seals, complete trigger unit, Back up scope etc.
But
If I'm traveling locally (within 8 hrs) to a 2 days match and not flying. I'm starting to bring my back up Tx200 with scope already set up (I shoot my back up beforehand to break it in). Not an exact copy, not the same scope. But shooting pretty close to 10-11FPE (almost the same as the main gun).
I might re-think that in the future. Because that's a lot of gear to lug around.

If you have two of the same rifle you can set them up as close as possible.
For Worlds in 2018 in Poland I had two HW97K rifles. Fully tuned and ready to go, scope for each gun and mounted on each gun. But only brought one stock.
When doing this you can put your spare action in your main stock and confirm numbers, check zero and then put it back in your case, reinstall your main action and continue on. I know with my tx I cna take it out of the stock, and disassemble the rifle, trigger out, spring/ guide, comp tube etc. And then throw it all back together and it will only be off a few clicks.
I recommend having a spare for the possibility of equipment failure.

Please strike out my comment about the backup gun. With the recent rule change by AAFTA about no changing guns during a "match".
Dan if you are coming to the nationals, just bring a spare spring (broken in) spare piston seals (broken in), spare breech seals as Cameron suggested above and save yourself some headache. Maybe a spare scope (previously sighted in for your gun of course).
Much more fun to just go and shoot instead of spending time splitting hair about new rules.
