This is the exact unit I have and use all the time.... and looks to be in excellent condition.... It replaces the compound feed and can be adjusted to nearly any angle in two planes.... Just over 3" vertical travel and the lathe has about 6.5" of crossfeed, so that is the travel limits.... You put the end mill in a mill holder in the headstock, but for light work, just putting it in the chuck works fine.... I milled a slot in mine to fit a hex mount for C collets, and added a stop for the collet blocks....
Here is the set of 5C collets and the square and hex blocks....
And the hex block mounted in the milling attachment....
This greatly enhances the flexibility of the milling attachment when drilling or milling valves, etc....

I have a Atlas 10" & have been keeping a look out for one of those milling attachments. But, $350 is a bit much considering I only paid $550 for the lathe. They do seem to always bring a premium price, maybe I'll stumble onto a deal someday.

Hi Bob,
I'm not grasping the idea of using collets in your milling attachment. Could you please give a little further explanation & examples of doing this ?
Thanks

I guess someone looking to save money could make a base for this and use it on the atlas

Rock, the collets are for holding the work.... I have a set of 5C collets from 1/8" to 1" by 1/16ths, and plan on getting a 1-1/16" and 1-1/8" as well.... I also have the square and hex blocks to hold the collets, and it is THOSE blocks that fit in my (slightly modified) vice on the milling attachment.... as shown in the bottom photo.... The slot I milled in the back (vertical surface) of the vice is to miss the point on the hex block.... and the drilled and tapped hole at the bottom on the side of the vice is to hold the aluminum tab which acts as a stop for the hex (or square) block.... so that it can be rotated to index the part, and then returned to the same position in the vice.... This is particularly handy when drilling and tapping for screws and ports in a valve, where you hold the valve in the collet.... Since you can rotate the milling attachment on the compound feed mount, you can easily mill the port on an angle, something which is not that easy on most mills, where you have to angle the head (or mount the vise on a sine plate)....

Rob, that first vice, on eBay, while it looks very solid, has no provision to rotate the vice from the vertical, although the T-slots would allow you to mount a part on an angle without using the vice.... Rock, the second vice, while it has a separate indexing head, has a smaller vice than the Atlas original one.... On the other hand, the Atlas has no T-slots available.... They will all work, and all will have different limitations, but of course the Atlas, while more expensive, drops right on.... All I can tell you is that I am happy with mine.... although no milling attachment will have the rigidity of a large mill, or the ability to mount big parts.... They all suffer from very limited vertical travel (about 3") and the horizontal travel is limited by the carriage cross-feed....
