Title: B272 Benjamin/Sheridan mount question; scoping my Model A
Post by: Jirushi on November 22, 2021, 02:14:52 AM
UJ Backus very kindly gave me the rear scope mount that he made for the Sheridan Super Grade.

I would like to try it on my A, but I am struggling to make the front mount work. I have asked UJ a lot of questions recently, so I thought I'd try to get some advice on here first  ;D

Does someone know if the type of two piece Benjamin/Sheridan mount as shown in UJ's photo,
is always the same?

I see that mount type B272 is still for sale; is that the only option, that will fit Streaks and Benjamins?

Many thanks, Louis

Is that a Weaver V22 scope? I have one. I think I bought it in 1970.

I know some of you are exacting shooters but it never made sense to me to alter the sighting of vintage guns. Part of the fun to me is using the historic sights?  I know your not altering the gun but just seems strange to me.  Kind of like the old BSA’s I’ve seen with scopes?

Yeah, agree, gotta say scoping an A seems kinda inconsistent with what they are.  Your gun, do what you will.  If you do scope it, maybe get the vintage scope to match.  Just my $0.02.

There was a Super Grade with scope fitted by the factory.

The gun is very accurate with the peep sight (2 cm group at 30 meters), but I'd like to test it with a scope; it's all good fun!
Cheers, Louis

Ps. @John, I have a Weaver B4 that I was going to use on the A.

That’s interesting didn’t remember that they did scope them.  But totally agree if it’s fun do it!  I just love the old vintage aperture sights.  Scopes tend to magnify the movement for me not really helping that much.  But my targets at 50 feet max.

The scope in the photo at the beginning of this thread is a Weaver Marksman 4x

Thank you Goose, I appreciate that.
But credits go to UJ Backus aka 20cal!
However, I have many more photos up my sleeve of airguns (and their internals) that I will be sharing ha-ha.
Ride on (I like that greeting, but won't copy you too often!), Louis

Thank you Louis. It's good to see that younger collectors like you are taking an interest in the workings of the Sheridan A and B; and sharing what you learn so others will have a greater appreciation for these very fine rifles.

Yeah, when you think about it, Benjamin and Sheridan have been offering mounts and scopes forever.  Don’t know why the model A should surprise me so.  Would be nice to see the original mounts up close, wondering if there was drilling/tapping involved.
