Title: Is the Seneca Eagle Claw worth it?
Post by: BoilBoyles on August 29, 2021, 03:11:07 PM
I found a good deal on a Eagle Claw but parts support is really holding me back from pulling the trigger.

For example, I read that post about that guy with messed up barrel and all the third parties he had to go through to finally obtain one from Will P.

What if one day I need some odd gasket or some hard to find internals? I'd really hate to scrounge around for a parts rifle.
I'm assuming this a risk to be taking buying a Korean gun?

Chuck, I have a Will Piatt .25 Sumatra carbine. Since the Sumatra is discontinued, I too would have to scrounge for parts. But I feel I can always rely on Will Piatt for parts.

That's my issue, doesn't sit right with me that I have to rely on one single guy for future parts and maybe even labor. It's great that we have him now but what happens if he decides to move onto other things in 5, 10, etc years from now

Good point. But If I had an Eagle Claw, I'd have it sent to WP to get the internals/trigger up graded from the start.
With the whole Covid situation & supplies being sparse, I can understand your concern.

Is it not possible to buy spares & parts directly from the manufacturer?

Correct me if I'm wrong but after a bit of Googling it looks like they're owned under Air Venturi now?
I'd have to get in touch with their customer service and see how they handle parts and services for that gun, if any.

Wonder rif anyone can chime in about Venturis customer support and how they are w parts.

That eases my worries a bit.
I would just hate to see a gun sit on the shelf due to lack of parts support.

Contact Pyramid Air.
They are the Air Venturi distributor.

Pyramyd Air Customer Service has been very helpful in getting parts for my Sumatra & Freedom (read as Aspen)
They do not list all the parts that they have in stock on the website; and it's my impression that ordering through Customer Service is the appropriate route.
It takes a little email back & forth getting things done, but if they have the part they they will create an order for you.
Hope this helps

That helps a lot, puts me at ease that I can have several options to fall back on in the future. I'll go ahead and pull the trigger and welcome this Seneca home

Hoping not to have mislead you
The key words above are "if they have the part"

Unless you are under a deadline to make the purchase, it might pay to explore availability of Eagle Claw parts with PA first

I have a habit of buying guns that go out of production within a few years, but like they say about chicken nuggets parts is parts, and I am willing to take that risk as the lower numbers of a specific gun made can increase it long term value.
Stick with the GTA group and parts are achievable.  ;)

Just sending the rifle to WP could help the rifle last longer.
Will really improved my .25 Sumatra carbine by improving the power wheel,  trigger, total reseal, & over all power performance & shot count. I'm assuming he'll do the same to the Eagle Claw.
He is indeed the Korean airgun guru!   8)

Get the rifle to Will and it will probably be good for the next 10 years.

I wish I made an account here before we purchased our .25 Eagle Claw from Pyramid last year. What does Will P do to the rifle?

It's hard to imagine it being much better than it already is. The EC is my first PCP, but I'm always impressed with it every time I get trigger time. Even on "half" power and 28 grn NSA slugs I'm able to hit a 3" circle off hand and split rough cut 2x4 ends. This rifle really loves the "heavy" 48 grn slugs on max power and can easily put holes in holes. I'm trying to figure out how to make a good lead trap that will allow me to easily recover the lead to dabble with casting my own ammo in the future.

DJ, my guess is that Will Piatt probably does the same thing to the Eagle Claw as he does with the Sumatra. You can always call Will & ask him.

I just bought my eagle claw with a Will P tune. I had wondered the same question as you and I posted a topic about it, you can find it if you click on my profile.
But basically this is what Will P did to a .25 Eagle Claw: "Shoots Seneca 43.2 gr 886 FPS 75.31 FPE on average. JSB 33.95 959 FPS 69.34 FPE. AVS slugs 994 FPS 65.83 FPE 30 grain. Shoots the AVS 30 grain in .2503 and .254 the best. Pre Tune shot JSB 33.95 791 FPS 47.17 FPE. Will’s tune really cranked it up. Get around 12 good shots before dropping off"

I had a thread asking exactly that information.

Thanks
