Title: Air Arms Break Barrel
Post by: Joey on August 01, 2021, 12:17:49 AM
I think Air Arms is missing the boat by not making a quality break barrel rifle.  They did in years past.  I've read it was an excellent rifle.  It seems there's room at the top for another quality break barrel.  I would buy one in a heartbeat.

There are people like you and me that would buy it but AA is a high end manufacturer and making PCPs is a safer and higher margin bet for them than a potentially low production break barrel. Just look at the recent break barrel grave yard, some of the tombstones read Walther LGV and SIG ASP20… not to mention the many Theobens.

Yeah, I guess it comes down to money in the end.  But, dang, wouldn't an Air Arms break barrel be a doozy?!

They had a good reputation for side-levers too and judging by the pics they were fine looking rifles too.

Wonder why they didnt buy out Theoben which was a smaller operation iirc. It’s too bad nobody pick up that line.

Their last break barrel, the Pro Elite, was a dud. Use of cheap sintered metal parts, tapered compression tubes, and poor design for piston seal retention that caused piston seals to just pop off.

They have a lot to learn before they will get my money.

Might as well add the history of the Pro Elite to the list -it looks like it wasn’t their best effort.

I believe the Pro Elites are highly sought after now.  At least the last few I've seen sold brought significant money.  There wasn't that many made, mostly in .22 if I recall.

FWB Sport is high end and I love mine. Fit and finish are perfect. Best iron sights I have ever seen. Worth every penny. I got one with Flying Dragon's tune/spring guide. It's it as accurate as my TX200 and HW77. I'll never sell this kit.

That doesn't mean they are great rifles.... Collectors will collect anything.

Indeed, collecting is driven by a bit of nostalgia. A desire for things we couldn’t have and a longing for simpler times... And it sure feels good to have a relic that is in low supply even if it’s bested by today’s latest and greatest.

That's true, people collect for there own reasons.
Did you experience these issues with yours? If so, how did you correct them?

The used to make a magnum break barrel called the Pro Elite.  Many of them had an out of round compression tube.  This resulted in the piston head detached from the piston body.
It almost bankrupted the company!
Five years ago I contacted Air Arms and asked if they would ever make another break barrel airgun.  Their answer was "NEVER!!".
So do not hold your breath.... :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
