Its been quite the year and without getting into political stuff I'm going to just explain what we are doing and why! During the last few years YouTube has been shutting down and deleting videos that are gun related. Just this year during our GTA Air Gun Expo we were closed down on the second day for a violation. Now this was almost a complete catastrophe but we moved the show over to Facebook just to save the show and fortunately it worked out ok but we nearly lost 6 months of planning. This year also I as well as many others have had videos pulled on YouTube for again violations. They keep changing the rules and making them up as they go and we have NO recourse. After talking with many contributors and even manufacturers we came up with THE IDEA!.
THE ARK (airgun repository of knowledge)
We will have our own gate for ANYONE to post their videos with child gates for the various type of guns and equipment! The videos will be uploaded on VIMEO and put directly in the ARK for safe keeping. So If you make videos or want to get yourself a Vimeo account and upload all the videos you want in its correct category. NO YouTube videos will be allowed or any other method of upload. We will have easy to follow well defined rules so no one will be guessing if their video is ok or not. Its time we make a stand and we will do it here in the ARK. Its a big endeavor for the GTA but one that someone needed to do. God Bless you all and happy shooting. Travis

Yes they are unaffiliated and we have been in direct contact with them. They dont post videos or host videos online like YouTube they just provide a paid service for users. Vimeo Its as good as it can be in todays world. There is no perfect scenario that doesn't cost a billion dollars to perform and implement. This is the way.

Yes they are unaffiliated and we have been in direct contact with them. They dont post videos or host videos online like YouTube they just provide a paid service for users. Vimeo Its as good as it can be in todays world. There is no perfect scenario that doesn't cost a billion dollars to perform and implement. This is the way.

Odysee.com a few people moved there when their firearms channels got whacked, but there is basically nothing in the airgun areas. Pretty much as easy as YT and they do offer live to some channels. It is unclaimed territory for the adventurous explorer looking to put down stakes.

Cool, just making sure it wasn't an oversight.
Sadly, I spend much of my time monitoring the forum from my work desk. The steel curtain that the IT department has installed around our intranet has me blocked for such things as YouTube and Vimeo. They also block access to FaceBook but I'm not the least upset by that one.. :o
I have to wait until I get home to view embedded videos.

If a Vimeo account is required then server or no the GTA is NOT hosting the videos unless you have secured a server AT Vimeo. Please explain further.

We have our own server and Vimeo has their own server. Vimeo and the GTA are in contact with each other and I will be having a live conversation Via zoom in the near future. It will be worth watching. We are in good hands.

And just think of all the other Youtube airgun content providers (and their collective MILLIONS of followers) who have likely suffered similar YouTube bans and deletions - we could also recruit them over, don’tcha think?
One last thing - could we please call the additional boards within The ARK “sub”-gates, rather than “child” gates?
An innocent Google search of GTA with this term might yield less-than-desirable results that we would likely not want to be affiliated with. After 28 years as an LEO (3.5 as a Vice-Morals investigator) ask me how I know…🙄
Same for the sub-gates here on GTA itself, but I’ll reserve that for another discussion.🤫

Great point Charlie. Ill get with the rest of the team and see about it. Our goal is to get all the vendors/companies/regulars/content providers here in the ARK.

This sounds really good! I have had my hairpulling already with YouTube and would like to have an alternative to that schenanigans. Practically no dissassembly videos or tutorials are safe there and would need to have alternative to that one. I am very happy to hear about this and would like to know more about it in the future.

A little bit disappointed that it will require getting a separate account through Vimeo; any chance that it could be made so that videos could be uploaded through the forum account? I believe that the current media gate is supposed to handle short videos-will they be able to be synced with the new ARK gate?

So I just went there, and to clarify, we would need a paid-for Vimeo account only for live streaming events, correct? Because I seem to be able to play Vimeo links any time I click on one, just like Youtube.

:o I thought I may have just prematurely posted a video, but guess its ok, now I know a little if others need assistance, maybe I just logged into my old free Venmo account with Google, now that is scary :o
My thinking something specific to the video content should be in the title as to make a search for the right video eaiser, avoid click bait titles etc. ???

I know its not the primary function but it would be great to see groups that are "infringed upon" to leave YT and therefore leave YT lacking exciting and of course, lawful content. There is no recourse for crazy YT regulations that change with the wind except doing this. I say GO BIG break the monopoly and bring as many people as we can onto it.

One can easily open a Vemo account with a Google, or Face Book account, Vemo gives those options on their sign in page.

Just make sure we don't accidently direct people to open a VeNMO account as a requirement of participation. ;D
