Title: Facorn elimination - not for the faint of heart!
Post by: GoneShootn on May 14, 2017, 07:39:29 PM
You may recall that, in response to this post by jc1234:

... wherein he said ...

The impact came in today and it is a keeper! After I zero the scope I turn my attention to some acorn s in a tree about 50 yards away it didn't mess with 12 shots I'm happy, very happy. I can't wait to see what this thing can do at the longer ranges and what is thrown over the Crony.

... that I decided to do my own acorn shoot, but, lacking acorns, I had to use 1/2" spots, which I named "fake acorns", or "facorns" for short ...

... which turned out well only for the facorns. Today, however, after BWalton had performed a resurrection miracle on the rifle, I tried again at 40 yds, and this time not a single facorn escaped unscathed. Certainly, a couple are only limping a bit, but the rest are stone cold dead, heh, heh.

Top spot was sight-in.

How did this post slip by?  This is the first time I saw it.  That's some great shooting.

I'll agree that it's certainly better than the last time. Now the rifle is much more than just wall candy, which was all it was good for before.

I missed it too!  I always for get to check the GA forum :(  Did Baxter tell you what the real problem was with the gun being inaccurate?  That is pretty solid shooting there!

No, he didn't volunteer, and I didn't ask. Trade secrets, don't you know. Anyway, I don't think it's something just anyone can do. I think he just touches them and automatically knows what's wrong and how to fix it.

Been working on the AT44 short .177, and I found out today that the little guy definitely likes the one valve hole open aligned with transfer port trick. I'm looking at a 1/4" 5 shot group at 45 yds. Maybe an anomaly, but I'll take it for now. Little dude may be worthy of a regulator after all. Current tune is 879-894-879 over 20 shots using JSB Heavies with HS nearly all the way out. I may open the 1 hole up a bit later, but for now I think I'll leave it as is and maybe polish the barrel a bit more and do a crown job. Oh, almost forgot - that tune is with the debounce device removed. Took it out so see how it would affect accuracy. Can't say that I see much more air usage with it out. Maybe there's not much bounce with the HS nearly all the way out.

Next time I break it down, I'm going to remove the HS spacer and put a Delrin pin in the HS screw.

The “Facorn” Memorial services were quiet and not well attended but appropriate.  They will be missed.  ;D
That gun is a shooter/keeper.

Them facorns used to snicker every time I went outside. Now they hide. Revenge is sweet.

I need to order a couple of sheets of self-adhesive facorns... maybe a whole roll.

NY currently has no restricted season or bag limit on facorns.  (Probably because of the nagging issue with auto-spell-check when trying to type up the legislation.)

Good hunting,
Bob

100 yards? I can't even see that far. That's over the horizon, isn't it?

The home where I grew up had seven Live Oaks that dropped tens of thousands of genuine Acorns each year.  Live Oaks were very common in the whole community too.  The Acorns falling from considerable height would stone Facorns to death.  This caused a sharp, severe decline in the Facorn population over the years.  Now, the Facorn is classified as an "Endangered Species” in that area. :(   >:(           ;D

Sorry, but no sympathy here. I've seen the other side of their face, and it's not pretty. ;)
