Darn it, wish I had seen this earlier! I hear that many of the Asian Lathes were hit with the tariffs increasing prices substantial relative to last year.

Looks like HF extended the 25% off through the 16th

Note, I think the general consensus is to avoid the 7 x 10 lathe that they stock in the stores and get the 7 x 12 in the online store.

You can't go wrong, these are good little lathes for the price. I purchased one a few years back as a backup for 10x22 lathe that was being converted to CNC and I find that it is my go-to lathe for quick little projects.
It was originally the 7x10 but since then I changed the base, from Little Machine Shop, to 16"and added a ELS conversion. It's great for small parts and very accurate.

Is it worth bypassing the 12 and going direct to 16 for Airgun related projects?

I think that the 16" is a better deal if they offer it. When I purchased the HF 10" ($279) I needed it to fabricate some small short bushings which worked great. I later picked up the 16" base  conversion kit on a super sale for $99 so I went that route.

A lot of the 16" are priced not far from the larger lathes like the 9x20 etc. Unless you find a deal, going with a 12" and doing an upgrade if needed may be the way to go
