Gamo & Spanish AirGun Gate / Re: Gamo scopes issues« Last post by mikeyb on Today at 10:23:26 AM »I picked up my one & only Gamo (Rocket = cheap refurb springer) back in 2017. That was the first year I started back into airguns after a ~35 year pause. The Rocket and other cheap springers/scopes/mounts almost killed my interest in air guns.
Way over-sprung, super harsh double-recoil shot cycle, TONS of reverberating TWANG, and large shotgun patterns at 30'. Accuracy issues were partially MY FAULT because I did not fully understand HOW to shoot a springer at that time. Cheap toy scope included would have been PERFECT on one of my ancient pumpers, but it was NO MATCH for the shock-recoils that light rifle produced. In less than 50 pellets the eye-piece cracked/split at the threads and flew BACK hitting me in the cheek. I was able to get the eye-piece back together and (kind-of) stay attached to the scope threads but it eventually worked loose and flew back into my face again. I took the rifle apart and reduced the spring preload to something like 1/4". That calmed the rifle enough so the eye-piece stayed on the scope. Didn't have a chronograph at the time but I estimate the rifle was shooting around 8-10 fpe max after the de-tune. THAT broken scope problem along with several OTHER wandering scope/mount issues on other powerful springers taught me that I should NEVER AGAIN buy any springer that doesn't have open sights installed at the factory. The other thing I learned was that CHEAP mounts and CHEAP scopes should NEVER be attached to a powerful (>16fpe) springer PERIOD. Good Luck! :-) 4

Gamo & Spanish AirGun Gate / Re: Keystone Air Guns new shipment!« Last post by Mark 611 on Today at 10:14:06 AM »I'm going to do a full review on this rifle when I get it! I have older COMETA guns and some newer ones to compare it too, I only have 1 of my older 400'star compacts left in my collection, and it's about 15yrs old, and a 220c I've for about the same amount of time, these guns have served me well! and have been quite happy with them!

Scopes And Optics Gate / Re: Vortex 4-12x40 A/O« Last post by Ike the GSD on Today at 09:52:26 AM »Vortex brand is my favorite brand of scope. I have quite a few of them on my PBers and I have several on a few of my PCP's. I never tried one on a springer so I can't say that I know for a fact that they'd survive. I love the quality of Vortex scopes. I've always found the clarity and operation of them to be simply outstandng. I have a couple of the exact scope you are looking at and I love them. Thanks for the feedback Jeff, man when I looked through one at Sportsman's Warehouse it just blew me away. 8

Bargain Gate / Re: How to get a discount on PARD Scopes!« Last post by Rat Sniper (AKA: PaulT58) on Today at 09:47:33 AM »is your first one a 50 or 70mm ? 70mm, based on my experience with the ATN scopes I went with the higher magnification. I don't have to zoom with the 70mm so video resolution as well as resolution on the internal screen is much crisper and clearer. 10
Air Gun Gate / Re: The New North Range (pic heavy)« Last post by avator on Today at 09:44:56 AM »Very nice setup Bill! I might even be a little envious.... aww heII.. I am enviousNo worries on the pan... it was a second hand store purchase and she has a whole set of them. I also have an almost complete copper coated set of pans as targets. That set was replace with a complete set of granite stone that she wanted. This was stuff we had in the kitchen in the bar before the bar sold. It all rings really well when hit with pellets. BTW... I have 2 or 3 more cast iron pans in the shop that aren't being used... yet. Those are saved for cooking on the campfire grill. |
