Not much out there on EM-GE Krone D.R.G.M. Air Rifles

Air rifle EM-GE KRONE Zella-Mehlis Thuringia DRGM in cal 4.5 mm, probably built in either 1926 or 1936 (high probability 2-1936) based upon the very worn stamping on the stock and apparently the round stamp encompassing EM-GE indicates it was denazified. Also on On barrel breech below the caliber there is a ship with the inscription “Germany”.
This gun was not in bad shape when I got it a couple of weeks ago, but it was not in great shape and had a lockup issue that made it un-shootable. The gun is is now once again fully functional and does what it is supposed to do. I had to hand make a wedge detention for compression tube side so barrel stays locked up for shooting, I must say it locks like it did the day it was new. Velocity averages approximately 450 fps, seal is good shape, but does need a spring upgrade as the old one has a bad cant/set as if it were left cocked for many years.
The appearance of the rifle when I got it was in good used condition but had some age-related signs of wear, storage marks, scratches, dents and very little blueing. All it needs now is the rear sight fixed and two very small fine thread keeper screws, 1 for the pivot bolt and 1 for the cocking arm linkage. Stock was redone and now shows a very nice piece of walnut and the metal got a cold blue treatment.

Very cool, glad you are making this collectable whole again. I saw it when it was first listed as I have a large collection of airguns from Zella Mehlis. But I didn’t have your skills to bring it back. It looks like a late 1930’s to me given the type of rear sight? I believe this is the only rifle that EM-GE made. I have in my collections 2 of their pistols. Both have that boat stamped on them. I don’t understand your comment, “apparently the round stamp encompassing EM-GE indicates it was denazified”? I think that circle is just part of their logo? Well done!

Nice project - it's interesting that the walnut on mid-level guns of the period sometimes has very nice figure. You may have already seen this, but Danny Garvin's Gallery has several Krones:
https://forum.vintageairgunsgallery.com/em-ge/em-ge-krone-air-rifle/
The Nazi emblem on one of 'em is surely an owner embellishment.
And as Steve points out, the 'EM-GE' in a circle is their standard logo throughout production.

There is actually an EM-GE No.2 air rifle apparently, which looks very similar to the Krone. Maybe the same rifle?

Thanks everyone for the compliments. To me that makes sense about the circle not being associated with anything other than the gun maker. Just knowing it is a Pre WWII rifle is good enough for me.
Garvin (Danny), I would have to agree with it looking like a Model 2 as well as the Model 2 stamping occurs in same location as the D.R.G.M. stamping on the compression tube.

Beautiful gun. Nice work.
Wondering, do all of them say ‘Germany’? If for domestic sale in Germany, why use the English word? Export to UK or America, maybe?

Jon,
I have seen a few other pictures of EM-GE rifles mostly from the vintage airgun gallery site and google pictures from past auction sites. There is a mix some with the ship and word Germany and some without that stamping. You may be onto something about those stamped with the ship being export versions. Well at a minimum it’s a very good theory at the moment.

A couple other details I forgot to mention in base description is the bore was clean and bright and looking down the barrel I discovered it is a Smoothbore. Also it has similar characteristics and dimensions of other period air rifles such as the Diana Model 25A and Haenel Air Rifles.

It's possible they stamped 'Germany' on all the production to simplify pulling guns for export - the examples on muzzle.de, most likely from a German collector, both have this.

Tim,
How is the BSF doing for you, I am still working off and on, on the old B3.
Love that old gun. Got a A.I.M. 30mm 3-7x32 range finder reticle scout scope mounted on the barrel. Tac driver at 25 yards. 3-6" groups at 50 yards depending on me and the wind. I've been shooting 7 grs. Meister and R-10 Match pistol pellets thru it lately. Been shooting those in other low power springers.
I'm in an old Crosman phase now. Bought and old Fury awhile back and the other day a Phantom from Baker and found wood stocks for them. A Storm and a Remington Summit or 777SB stocks for them. Did the RC roller bearing mod to them. 'bout as good as a GRT trigger. Zero first stage, hair over 1 lbs. trigger, clean break. Like'em like that. Got acouple of Limbsaver barrel vibration dampers coming from Walmart. Going to 'spearmint with those. Already had a few but never worked with them much. Watched some Utube stuff on them. Might try one on the c60.
Thanks, for the shout out. Later, Beau.

Don's explanation for using 'Germany' is the best I've heard I think. In fact 'Germany' seems to be the word always used on German manufactured goods by everyone rather than 'Deutschland' AFAIK, even those clearly intended for sale on the domestic market.

Danny,
Thank you for your site, I have spent many hours looking at and reading about vintage airguns posted there. Some of those postings have pushed me to find some just to see them in person and like my Krone bring it back to shooting condition.
