Failure to "latch"

The B1 I got from Amazon the end of April will no longer cock (latch). I had shimmed the piston,(took that back out) and have mounted a couple of buttons on the back end of the piston,at about 10 o'clock and two.(pushing the piston down further in the receiver)
Looking at the notch in the pistons spring guide, the sear was just barely catching on a very corner of the notch.
Notch and sear aren't quite lining up.May have some grinding to do.....

My first thought is the buttons should have gone at nearer 5-7-12 o'clock with 3 to keep everything centered.

Normally, yes, but I was trying to lower the notch on the piston/spring guide so the trigger sear had more to grab onto.
I did do some grinding/polishing and it seems better, but really need to give it a good testing. The trigger is harder now, instead of a hair trigger.

Normally the first button goes exactly opposite the cocking slot. That way the cocking arm is pushing directly into the button. The other two buttons are separated by 120 degrees each way. Looking at the end of the piston, If the cocking slot is at nine o'clock, the first button is at 3 o'clock. That will put the other two buttons at 7 o'clock and 11 o'clock. The piston is thus held centered in the compression tube.

Yep,did that to my B3 underlever.
On this B1 I'm trying to get the catch on the spring guide on the piston to sit lower in the tube, so the sear will engage, and not slip off.
Having better luck with it.
Thanks
