I understand the need for sighters.... I just don't understand having a system where you can shoot too many, or not enough, shots.... There are soooooooo many things outside your control (the wind being enemy #1).... it becomes critical to control any and all factors you can.... Maybe colour code your bullets with a felt pen, or write numbers on them?.... There has to be a way to avoid something that came back to bite you a second time.... Once is bad luck.... twice is bad planning or execution, IMO.... As I said congratulations to you both.... and Doug, please don't take these comments as criticism, but suggestions on what you could do to avoid a threepeat....

First time was a miss fire I guess and I was shocked when I found out I had 6 shots on a target. Now I shoot the top targets first so that will never happen again.
I will film my shooting. I have the eagle eye which uses a go pro and doesn't enter fear with shooting. This won't happen again. If any issue I will play back the video.
It sounds easy but when your shooting it's a whole different thing. This is my 3rd time and it's still no easier then the first. Especially because I expect to do better then the last time.

I am well familiar with the pressures of top level competition.... I raced sports cars in the 70's, and later model yachts in the 70's, 80's and 90's, at the National and International level, and won quite a few Championships along the way.... It all boils down to controlling what you can.... and doing your best in spite of what nature and your competitors throw at you....
I am not the best shot at targets, I end up getting nervous when I know how I am doing, and often pull the last shot.... I actually shoot better if I don't look at the target to see my progress.... and I shoot better on live game than on paper, for some reason.... Everybody is different, and I have great admiration for shooters that can consistently finish at or near the top in high level competition....

My humble opinion.... You can't avoid pressure from competiton. Only way is going there and participate to competitions. Even is there is relaxed feeling and only friends to compete still making errors and miscalculations. We have arranged silhouette and BR competitions atleast 5-6 years and still making bad shots on BR and silhouette. And we all are sort of "family" because here is so few who takes part these competitions. So same faces and still having fun.
