Neilson Specialty Ammo Report

Received my Sampler Pack of Neilson Ammo yesterday and did a comparison test of each weight for the upcoming deer season. I am very pleased with the quality, price, and quick shipping they provide. Thought I should share my findings and get any thoughts members may have .
I will start with the lightest slug, the 196 grain and work up to the 265 grain.
Weighing 10 of the 196 g. I found they averaged 195.5 with a spread of.5 grain, very nice. The chrony showed that with a 2700 psi fill they averaged 797 FPS in my Will Piatt tuned 909s. I have not calculated the FPE yet for any of the 4 size slugs.
Past sessions have revealed that although I can fill to 3000 psi, the first shot always shoots low, at a distance 50 yards. Thru trial and error I have found that a fill of 2700 eliminates that problem and the second shot is real close on POI also. The photo below shows a three shot group taken today.
The 220 grain weighed an average of 219.2 g for 10 pcs. With a spread of 1.2 g.
A 2700 psi fill sent them at an average of 747 fps.
Target below shows the 3 shot group.
The 240 grain slugs averaged 239.9 g and had a spread of 1.4. I had high hopes for these.
I chose to fill to 2600 psi and wish I hadn’t. I may go back and fire 3 more with a 2700 psi fill and compare those results. They averaged 690 FPS. Photo below reveals results for 3 shots.
The 265 grain slugs averaged 264.6 with a spread of .4. I also liked these but they are slower from my gun than I am comfortable with. They averaged 680 FPS on a 2700 PSI fill. The results of 3 shots are shown below.
After studying the results I am leaning heavily toward the 220 Grain HP. At 50 yards, three shots were touching. That first shot is the one that matters most and I like what I saw today from this gun/ammo combination. Thanks for reading my post and please post any feedback you may have.

Thanks for the post. Those 220 look very good for sure. In my gun the most accurate slugs are the 290, 279 and 220. This is for the Texan I am talking about. 265 grains would the next most accurate after those.
Keep in mind some of the slugs are intended for other guns like the Evanix or Sam Yangs, etc. That is why we offer the sampler to see what shoots best in YOUR gun.
Thanks for posting this, this is the first I have seen someone reporting on the sample pack.
