There is nothing wrong with any shot on a coyote, regardless of whether its a powder burner or air rifle. I have seen coyotes run after a powder burner shot too. Im guessing the coyote is in some brush, and died hiding from you. I hit a fox at 130yards with my .25 marauder (28ftlbs@130 yards) and it was a full pass through lung shot. Probably would have passed threw a coyote too. Its a dog eat dog world, and the same eathics you have for game animals should,? could,? can? be different than predators.

Well after 4 hours of looking I have not recovered the coyote. . The terrain is a mess. Usually it is frozen this time of year . Not so this year, it is a land mine of deep water , some ice , and mud. When I returned home I checked the distance with the range finder. (28 yards) . Checked the poi of the rifle at said distance. I checked the velocity over the chrony. (50 ft pounds) I recreated the shot on a pop bottle and It was spot on. I guess it was not my day. I have 2 little girls (twins) that enjoy playing in the yard in the winter making snowmen and forts . IT had to be done.
My wife took these photos today of our backyard. It struck a chord just now when Chpmnkh8r said watch the skies. Maybe?
Time to pinpoint the spot and go have a look,...that's a must IMO ( gotta know ) even if you need to machete your way in.

Heading out in the morning to search. Weather Forecast for tomorrow is -10 and windy . 15 centimeters of snow overnight. 3 good friends willing to help, ATV, snowmobile, drone, cordless chainsaw, and determination. I hope we find the animal if indeed he or she is there.
