I used ground walnut shell blasting media from Harbour Freight. Its like sand but lighter and works really well.

That's also a good idea.. I used to get them from work too. They were used as glass packing in the drums of mig welding wire for the robotic welders. I might even have a bucket of them around here somewhere.
