Title: Looking for an inexpensive shooting mat,
Post by: Lt. Dan on August 02, 2022, 11:47:57 AM
Hey guys and gals, I'm looking for an inexpensive shooting mat. I don't plan on using it every shooting session but I'm tired of dragging a tarp out everytime I want to shoot in the prone position.

Any ideas?

Waterproof picnic blankets are $10 on eBay. I have one and it would do nicely, I think.

I was thinking more along the lines of what Mike suggested.

In that case, $30 seems to be the lower limit, based on my searching.

Is this mat only 20" wide?
If so that doesn't sound like it would be comfortable to use shooting.

I'm jealous of anyone who can shoot prone. I'm old and creaky beyond my 56 years. First if I get down on the ground I can't get my head in position without hurting my neck. Second it takes me a minute of painful maneuvering to get back up. I used to love shooting prone :'(

Prone in a ditch is a little easier, HTH  ;)

If I go prone it's probably by accident.

Amazon has a bunch. $25 and up and Walmart has the same items for about the same price.
